True Speak Aragorn, Angry Chicken is spot on as well.
FTR Aragorn and AC should post alot more to get this fucked forum back on track
Well thank you sir, I’m glad you like my contributions. I always make a point to read anything you throw out in a training thread–you’re ridiculously beasty now if that profile pic is any indication at all. I’ll make a point to try to post more often, as I’ve been blowing off steam in politics and random topics unlifting related lately. I tend to go in phases, and recently most of my training oriented stuff has been in the Combat and beginner forums.
FWIW, I think as many people in the Beginner forum that DON’T make any use of the painstaking advice we give, there are a lot that might not even post that will read and do take it. A large part of this I think stems from my novice experience coming here when I first started lifting…Prof and others gave me good damned advice that I often listened to (and sometimes was too stubborn for my own damn good until I learned it another way lol)
That’s how I feel as well. If It wasn’t for this website or the other experienced lifters at the gym’s I’ve gone to some of us would have given up or worse, done bosu ball crossfit hybrid programs. I think it’s important to let others know who are willing to listen how to train in a correct fashion.
The other day I was doing muscle ups, again thanks to an article on this site that explained how to do it, and some guy asked me how I did them because he has never seen someone do them before. Point is for every good post we make if only a few take away solid advice from it, it is still a success for those people who will in turn help others one day.
Monsieur X is a legend and I havn’t even talked to him that much ever he’s just experienced and helpful which beats about 80 percent of the trolls on this site He’s probably stronger and bigger then 90 percent of us as well.

I thought I was the only person with this opinion. guys like Bonez, MODOK, Cephalic carnage, Bonez, and ZRAw have personally made specific diets, routines, workout plans and tips for INDIVIDUAL people on this site. X just repeats himself “don’t bother if you don’t have good genetics” “im not fat” “eat big” “hammer strength trumps barbell bench” blanket statements dont help people. so why the popularity? im not talking shit we us need more individual intelligent posters around here (and not chase them off)
Good point, we need to cultivate an environment where we keep the intelligent and helpful forum members and cease the crap that runs these people away. We all have our favorite posters that have either abandoned ship, or simply stopped having any interest in sharing and bestowing knowledge at all for fear of what every thread inevitably gets turned into… and who can blame them?
Now whether it has been specific actions, or more likely the unchecked behavior of certain people, it’s needed to be addressed for some time. From what I took away from one of my conversations with Jared the other day, the folks running this site are well aware of how things have gotten, and to be honest, apparently a lot of the mods and editors feel very similarly to a lot of the posters (they do read through every thread after all).
That being the case, with everyone being on the same page in terms of curtailing BS behavior and fostering the intelligent and civil discussion of topics we all share a deep appreciation for, howzabout we move ahead and stop lobbing blame on one specific poster. Not that I don’t agree for the most part, but rehashing and rehashing the same opinions doesn’t change actions and behaviors that tarnished this site’s reputation in a lot of people’s eyes.

I had really hoped that this thread wouldn’t focus on this specific poster, more so about improving the general tone and feeling of the forums and the reputation that results for the site as a whole.
Being a ‘legend’ or ‘experienced’ (especially on an internet site) doesn’t always excuse other more negative traits, especially when there have been and are plenty of legends-in-the-making IMO throwing up some seriously useful and well considered information. And don’t get me started on those who were 100% truly beneficial for those seeking knowledge who left of their own accord.
An example I always think of is from when I worked in the Animation Industry. To create an animated commercial, TV show, or feature film requires the combined work of a huge team of people, all doing their best work day in and day out, yet realizing that the combined effort is what is ultimately important. In such instances no one cares how great an artist you are if you’re difficult to work with, have a huge ego that needs constant attention, or have to find every opportunity to show off just how great you are because you may be slightly threatened that a newer or younger artist seems to be earning their own reputation. You can draw the parallels to how the forums have been the last few years on your own. I won’t personally attack someone, no matter what my true feelings may be.
Bottom line: Stu is right. We all need to work to make this site what it used to be and put an end to all of the bickering and attempts to make oneself look better than others.
People are not polite on the internet and that prevents many threads from getting to a helpful place. That and everyone likes to be funny/cool and that may not translate to the forum medium. I don’t have an answer for either. Better Mods? or no “off topic” forums? and then the unhelpful without manners or humor that is actually humorous may fade away? Split the site into supplements and training forums and a maxim/esquire/cracked kind of thing? I don’t know.
OK, fair enough. If the site is turning over a new leaf, I may begin posting in the “on topic” forums. I may have a thing or two to add here and there that some may find useful.

Eh, the business world is the complete opposite.
Most places will tolerate the fact someone is a total DBag 24/7 365, if the results of their efforts benefit the company. In fact, these people (DBags who get good results) tend to be very well compensated as well.
Every place needs finders, minders and grinders. Grinders tend to be total shit shows to work with, but very valuable to the firm. So you stick them in a corner, find some mid level talent that can deal with them, and allow the middle man to mitigate the annoyance of the rest of the company…

Off topic I know, but this is GAL after all.
I completely understand your point. However for an online web site that is composed of forum traffic and resultant supplement sales, a less than great reputation and a constant stream of posters fleeing elsewhere online ready to complain about the same specific issues can’t possibly be seen as a positive. IMO I don’t see how that could even slightly serve to “benefit the company”
While I can’t speak for the countless people who have left in recent years (many of whom I truly respected and thought had a huge impact on the quality of the forums), I certainly know what drove me to the point where I was just about to throw my hands up and say the hell with it. And this is despite my very long association here and admitted special treatment from time to time.

Pretty on point beans. In the business envoirnment the only thing that really matters is your personal effect on the bottom line. All exmployees are expenses, those in revenue generating positions have the ability to easily increase or prove their ROI and show themselves to be a financial asset if their cost is less than their increase or impact to EBITA. The greater the asset you are, the more of an asshole you can be and it doesnt matter.
That being said, rainmakers are usually d-bags because they can be. People in finance, operations, service or management positions etc have alot less room for error because they have a harder time creating a positive roi on their postion, or are basically just overhead.

This is pretty congruent with my last post. rainmakers and good sales people get to be asswholes, that is about it.
