Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

Nice man! right to the source.

That explains it really well, & makes a lot of sense. That, plus @strongmanvinny2 's testimonial on cleans I’m going to have to bring them into the next block of programming.

Me too. At least when I start the program that I posted here in about 10 weeks.

Thanks for asking him man that helps a lot. I completely agree with his idea on the conditioning and such, but his point on just cleaning it versus the continental seems to be a reach. Cleaning an axle is hard as fuck especially when you’re talking about a heavy load. I get why he put them in there now, but I still don’t see a point in drilling it over cont cleans and espcially close to contest. I am not a strongman though, so maybe this makes no sense. Ha

I feel so popular right now, haha.

@mr.v3lv3t On the last set, I no joke thought “There are so many other places I want to be right now rather than under this goddamn bar”. I also thought about how Kroc apparently did BBB using 5x20x405 on the squat. I just…I can’t even.

@Koestrizer Good work going to the source. So much better than speculating, haha.

AM WORKOUT

Axle bench press
5xAxle
5x136
5x186
5x226
5x261
5x296
5x10x226

T-bar row 190
5x10

Band pull aparts
5x20

Viking squats 95
5x12

Lat pulldown 90
1x20

Notes: Hamstrings feel like they’re going to snap. What is unique is that usually it is my left hamstring that gives me grief, but today the right was in the most pain. Took the Viking squats down to rehab level weights and ran it like a feeder workout between the 5x10 benching. Supersetted t-bar rows with the heavier benching. Was more ambitious for those latpulldowns, but was running low on time.

Woke up at 194.4. I’ve been able to hold about 2lbs heavier, so now I think I’m going to slowly up my breakfast calories. Something like an extra cup of fruit and another serving of oatmeal.

That is twisted.

@mr.v3lv3t No joke. Whenever I think I might be getting a little crazy, I re-read some Kroc stories and realize I’m not even close, haha.

AM WORKOUT

Texas deadlift bar touch and go deadlifts
5x135
5x255
1x345
5x420
5x475
5x530
5x5x475

Standing ab wheel
4x8

Band pull aparts
4x20

Weighted dips w/80lbs
5x10

Lat pulldown 90
1x30

Notes: Supersets of warm-ups w/ab wheel, heavy work with pull aparts, rep work with dips. Always like this week; just walk away feeling strong. Pulldowns were bugging the elbow, so cut them short. Hamstrings were still tender, but could be worked through.

Woke up at 197.4. Cheat meal was yesterday. Panda Express opened up in my town, had to break it in. Fried rice, double orange chicken and beijing beef. Carb and sodium overload.

Hey man, this is kind of an odd request but if it isn’t too much of a hassle, could you film you deadlift warm ups/ acclimation sets sometime?

Hey man, not weird at all, but unfortunately this is my last workout of the cycle. From here I will transition to mat pulls. But I took a full video of a deadlift workout (sped up) here if that helps

Cool, thank you. I will watch this after I get home from work.

That’s an awesome shirt and a really good workout! Dunno if you have noticed or it might just be me, but it looks like you walk with your feet pointing out at a large angle… Do you have hip problems?

Thanks man. I like that shirt for benching, because the big logo on the back sticks to the bench.

No hip problems. I have size 12 flat feet on a 5’9 body. I tend to wing them outward because they take up less space when I do. What’s interesting is, after blowing out the ACL and getting it repaired, the left side foot tends to point forward more than the right.

Yoke 50’
4xYoke
4x345
2x525
2x625
2x705

Notes: First time cracking 700lbs on the yoke since my injury. Just wanted to see what I could do. Moving super slow, but just strapping in and holding on at this point. Yoke finally started slipping down my back; gonna need to tape the crossbar soon. Lower right back is a little tender right now, but otherwise no worse for wear.

Woke up at 197.4.

Wow. I’m 0.5-1.5 sizes smaller (10/11 UK) and six inches taller. My feet are kinda small for my height, but still… do you drive around in a tiny car with a dozen of your friends very often?

@mattjp The bright orange Crossfitlite TRs only further add to the “clown feet” appeal thing. My feet have always been huge, and I thought I was going to grow into them when I was a kid, so I was banking on being at least 6’ tall, haha. My mom is the same way, but it’s less pronounced since she’s so short; she’s about 5’1 and wears a ladies 8. My kid seems to have the same thing going on too.

I know Ed Coan said having big feet is an advantage in lifting, but for the most part they’ve never been fun, haha. I clomp when I run, and moving events suck.

@Despade That is a weird thing to always say. Surely he finished the sentence at least once. Hahaha.

AM WORKOUT

Axle Strict Press
5xAxle
5x66
5x136
5x176
5x196
3x221
5x5x196

Viking squats 135
5x10

Lat pulldowns 140
5x12

Band pull aparts
5x20

Notes: Another great end to the cycle. My back was still fried from the yoke, so I didn’t have as much in me for that set of 220 as I’d like. The 5x5 was solid though. Snowed in the evening, so I cut the workout a little short to help shovel the driveway a touch.

Woke up at 196.4, which made this a bodyweight 5x5 press. I’m pretty happy with that.

That’s cool mate. Doing the things most lifters have set as their long time goals… And than exceeding that.

Not sure if I have missed this, but have you got any plans for strongman shows for next year?

Ridiculous…

In before @T3hPwnisher out strict presses me and I out deadlift him and we both have existential crisis’.

Stop getting stronger at strict presses!!!

@Irishman92 Much appreciated man. I remember reading in Pavel Tsastouline’s “Beyond Bodybuilding” how pressing bodyweight was the measure of a man, and at that point pressing bodyweight became a goal. Since then, it’s always been great to keep it moving. Just makes me “feel” strong.

I’m going to be competing in April at the latest. I’m keeping my eyes open for other opportunities, but that one for sure is a lock.

@j4gga2 Thanks dude! It’s definitely coming along.

@strongmanvinny2 Haha, oh my goodness what a turn of events that would be. I think you still got some daylight on me though, but it means a lot to even have my name come up in that conversation.
