Good to see you recognizing your strengths and celebrating your hard work mate. There are a few other people on here that could learn a thing or two from his but sadly probably never will. Well done mate.
@simo74 Absolutely dude! Gotta celebrate these victories. Self-fulfilling prophecies and the power of positive thinking: Iām big on all of it. The world will work to tear you down: donāt help it.
@OTHSteve That is awesome! Too true too. Itās what I love about physical training: itās about as close as weāre gonna get to having super powers. And yes, I HAVE calculated my strength score using the DnD tables. Fun fact: Derek Poundstone had a strength score of 20-21 in his prime.
THAC0 is still an awesome way to tell who was paying attention in math class.
I am starting to see a weird correlation between strong people and nerds. This seems to be the complete opposite of what the movies would have me believe. Have I been lied to all this time. ![]()
In fairness, itās probably because the jocks play real sports while I lift weights, haha
Heck, thatās how I started playing in the 70ās. In 7th grade we had a new math teacher fresh out of college, and after he got to know his students, he picked the 4 smartest of us and indoctrinated us into the evils of D&D!
Well, at my 35th high school reunion, all the jocks were soft and doughy in comparison to me, so nerdiness triumphs!
How? Because Iām definitely up for that.
Iām not old enough to say for certain, but I think theres a real seed of truth here. We nerds are long-haulers. Pursuing goals for years, decades. The jocks often peaked in HS or college, never had to pursue it, and became soft in due course, just riding the wave.
Personally my peak shape was probably this year in my 30s. And next year may be even better.
Iām in the same boat, just not a smarty pants like a lot of people here⦠but I am obsessive in the things that interest me. Music took over my life so much that school took a back seat and I had trouble graduating. Iād like to think Iām a bit more mature now and am able to have my priorities straight.
I have always wanted to be strong as hell, but just didnāt know how to do it. Once I found this site and talked to a few people⦠it was on. Now my music is taking a back seat to lifting.
Same dude!!
I, for one, have always had to put enormous amounts of effort in to be passingly OK at any sport. Iām not a natural athlete and growing up I had the natural build of a baby flamingo. I learned to put effort in and work to get good at stuff. On the other hand, I skated by academically for my entire school and uni career with essentially no effort needed and never picked up the skills needed to study because at that level, I didnāt need them. Turns out you canāt skate by on genetics forever (or most of us canāt), and I imagine thatās what the soft doughball shaped ex-jocks are facing now. The point where genetics run out and hard work and discipline havenāt been built enough to replace them.
Hey @T3hPwnisher I was curious. I read that deepwater helped you add a lot of mass. Did you hit any cool prs like @boilerman?
@dagill2 Thereās the table that @OTHSteve posted. Otherwise, there is this one for current edition
A character can press their heaviest load overhead and can deadlift double their max load.
Spot on about coasting on genetics. Mrs and I have observed that in our 30s. Neither of us were blessed with a fast metabolism growing up and always had to watch what we ate. In turn, weāve maintained fitness, while our once svelte peers are now quite large.
@tlgains Been hitting PRs all over this log. Check out my most recent training I posted: I took a weight that originally took me 10 sets to get 100 reps in and got it done in 8.
DEEP WATER INTERMEDIATE Week 6, Workout 2
AM WORKOUT (0525 wake up via alarm, 0700 workout)
25 chins
Axle clean and strict press away 156
1x15
1x13
6x12
Transition immediately to 50 dips followed by lateral raise stripset of
20x20lbs
20x10
20x5
20x2.5
20xEmpty hands
55 second crucifix position hold
75 second rest
Superset circuit (no rest) hyper-abs
Reverse hyper 230
3x20
Standing ab wheel
3x7
75 second rest
Poundstone curls
171xAxle
Notes: 8:00 between first and second set, 5:00 for the rest. I was really shocked with how well this all went. Hip healed up real well over night, but still just feeling that general āhit by a busā feeling that comes the day after the deads. Wanted 16 on that first set and really grinded for the 15th so just changed the plan slightly. Had to drop the axle and reclean it for the 100th rep, but thatās a small concession for an otherwise awesome training session. Once again, itās crazy how the program just transforms you.
Lawn mowing, conditioning and a walk or run with the Mrs later this evening, then an early shift tomorrow. Not gonna lie: Iām feeling a little ālet downā that the 6 month block is ended. Iām an institutionalized man: I donāt know anything else. But change will do me good.
Posted this in the check in thread, but got a photo today. May do a little manscaping for an āofficialā after photo
PM WORKOUT (1420)
30 thrusters w/135lbs
Time: 2:55 (3 second PR)
Notes: Mowed the lawn for 90 minutes too, and gonna run or go for a walk later. This seemed the right call. With tomorrow being Deep Water cleans, Grace Echo seemed like a bit too many cleans ahead of time. Just keep getting better at this. I think my focus on front squats in my conditioning has paid off.
I can see a 90 minute mowing AMRAP in the next CrossFit games
I like throwing on the weight vest when I have more time, but these days the schedule is pretty packed
Still looking jacked and still giving the strength searchers and the Ab worshipers something to strive for mate. Quality
@simo74 Much appreciated dude! This has been my best training cycle ever. Iām gonna get some thoughts down about it at some point.
Got in a 3 mile run with the Mrs this evening. Cardiovascular system was strong, but running muscles definitely not happy. Hip only seems to get mad after prolonged periods of sitting, so once again, if I stop moving Iāll die. Got power cleans coming up in less than 7 hours.
