Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

Not anything recent. This is a few years ago

Curling with the axle is just better. I googled Poundstone curls, google sorted your video to the top of the list lol

I seem to have popularized it more than Poundstone himself, haha. Yeah, the axle really transforms it into something magical.

Would i be right in thinking axles have very similar diameter to the loading pin on Olympic bars?

Ideally they’ll be 50mm/2" in diameter, but most in the US tend to be 1.9" in diameter because that’s a more standard diameter for pipes, and cheaper axles are just pipes with collars welded on with a powder coat.

Man every time I get to that part of my press day I’m thinking, sweet just a set of curls and I’m basically done, then I start thinking, shit that’s a long set… haha.

Your elbows don’t mind them?

Not at all surprisingly enough. I think there must be something restorative about the absurd pump they generate.

I find it to be theraputic to the elbows. Helps take pain away.

@mr.v3lv3t these before work workouts really show it to me. I have hard timelines to meet, and before I did the set I thought to myself ā€œoh man, I’m ahead of schedule today!ā€ and then I finished and I was 2 minutes behind, haha.

I can imagine that they are but if there’s already tendonitis I wonder if it’d still be therapeutic. I know me and @mr.v3lv3t have some shared experience there. Will have to try!

As a frequent elbow pain sufferer (never got it diagnosed), I found it therapeutic. That was the frame I was intending to speak from.

Oh, I’ve completely missed that!

POST WORKOUT MEAL

Swiss bar shrugs against bands
1x52

Notes: Shaved off some stuff to be able to get it all done before work. Still pretty action packed. The time limit forced me to keep rests short, which was a nice challenge. The axle remains a brutal implement. I actually rounded up 5lbs on the BBB sets so I could use 1 more set of bumpers to keep noise down while I trained. Plan to get in the daily work and a run later today.

Yet again, I seem to be ā€œcoming aliveā€ after the second set of BBB work. Noticed that all through the past week. Just an interesting observation.

How do you like the neck harness? I have always been interested in using one

Big fan of it. Been using one for about a decade now off and on. Simple way to get in neck work. I’ve got a souped up Ironmind ā€œHeadstrap fit for Herculesā€, but I’ve used lowertech ones just fine. The Spud Inc one is very well designed. I broke a cheap Harbinger one though.

Are you allowed to put the bar down for a rest during Pwndstone Curls or do you have to hold it for all 100 reps

I try to do some neck work, but i think that a neck harness would be more motivating…but a big part of it for me is that my neck is strained a lot at work (looking up for extended periods of time) and i have had whiplash in the past and so on. Basically i want to try to strengthen it more than i can now just to help avoid problems
