Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

@T3hPwnisher @kdjohn yous two are fucking nuts. The thought of my wife dealing with the finances sends a chill up my spine

I’m 1) a horrific procrastinator, and 2) terrible at multitasking. I still have to reign in her potential spending once in a while (and her mine too, to be fair), but she is much better equipped as a person to get all our bills laid out and paid on time. When I lived alone, sometimes I’d neglect to pay my internet, for example, until they suddenly said, ā€œPay this now or it’s gone.ā€

I’m very content with our set-up. She manages the home (which includes finances), and I work my ass off and help keep her sane and raise our kid.

@ChongLordUno It’s a control thing. I’m more willing to give it up than the Mrs is in pretty much all occasions, and the stress of her BEING stressed over not being in control is more significant to me than the stress I encounter by not being in control. But we also have simple tastes and tend to not spend on ourselves much. Just like @kdjohn I work and bring home money and she handles the home stuff. Except she works too, so really I’m just the slacker, haha.

I suppose I DO handle the nutrition and majority of the cooking in the house. That’s where my wife gives up control and is ok with that, because I’m always mad scientist-ing with us.

ā€œOk, we’re now doing grass fed beef. Ok, NOW it’s organic cage free eggs. Honey, I switched out all your baking butter with grass fed: it’s going to be awesome.ā€

LUNCHTIME WORKOUT

Fran+ (95lb thrusters, strict chins)

15
9 (4:29, 15 second PR)
5 (5:14, 25 second PR)

Notes: Absolutely motored through this. Firing on all cylinders. Especially funny given the light nutrition today in anticipation of tonight’s gorge.

Edit: Someone reminded me at another location of a night time meal I used to eat: cottage cheese, avocado and PB fit all mixed together. I forgot all about it, but I might actually bring that back and rotate it with my nightly PB-fest. Be good to vary up the fats a little.

Had this at date night

Burger patty made of chuck, spare ribs and brisket, topped with pulled pork and shaved pork shoukder and an onion ring, with a side of onion rings.

No guilt, no justification: just a damn good cheeseburger and a lovely evening with the Mrs. Doing it right.

Your sentiment is pretty common - I have to explain to people who tell me that how amazing my wife is with money. The only problem is that I have to repeatedly explain to her that even though I’m the primary earner and she only works part time, that our money is ours, and not just mine. We’ve had numerous text conversations like,
Wife: ā€œHey honey, I’m just gonna run to the dollar store to grab a couple things, is that okay?ā€
Me: ā€œā€¦it’s your moneyā€¦ā€

Wife: ā€œHey honey, I went a bit overboard at the grocery store, here’s the receiptā€
Me: ā€œit’s your moneyā€

Wife: ā€œHey honey, my haircut is going to cost $X, is that okay?ā€
Me: ā€œIT’S YOUR MONEYā€

I do actually pay the bills, because I’m super neurotic about paying them early, taking screenshots, and filing away every confirmation screen in dated folders, but other than that she pretty much does all the buying. I can be an impulse buyer too, anyhow.

Burger looks and sounds crazy good dude!

Thanks man. It wasn’t the best I ever had (OMG Burger at Montana Club has that honor), but still quite good

I don’t think I’ve ever had a burger that I lost my mind over, but when I do I’m sure I’ll know it’s the one… I’m probably not searching well enough haha.

@boilerman My white trash roots run deep, haha. I have stupidly simple tastes. And like, don’t get me wrong: I can enjoy a good steak. I have a 2lb grassfed tomahawk ribeye in my freezer right now waiting for the right occasion. But I have just an animalistic visceral viking-esque reaction whenever I SEE a cheeseburger. I lock onto it like a shark. I remember watching a TV show about adults with food ruts (ā€œFreaky Eatersā€) and there was a dude that ONLY ate cheeseburgers and I was like ā€œOh yeah, I get thatā€, haha.

AM WORKOUT (0445 wake up via dog)

FASTED

100 six count burpees
6:31

50 min 80lb weighted vest hill walks

Notes: Not a PR for time on burpees, but a PR for unbroken set of 70. Given 2 previous conditioning PRs this week and doing this fasted first thing in the morning the day after BBB squats, it’s insane. Got in the walk since it was so damn early. Forgot that this was usually the day I did my front squat burpees, but my schedule is all jacked up anyway. Thinking I’ll bench Monday, deadlift Tuesday, then front squat/burpee Wed. I start early shifts on Monday, so that might work well.

Abs were crisper this morning than they’ve been for a while. Still getting that ā€œcheat meal refeedā€ effect, which I’d say is a good sign that nutrition is in the right place. Also a sign that I most likely COULD get away with a little bit of carb manipulation, but as I try to find this ā€œperformance/health/lifestyleā€ balance I honestly prefer just keeping carbs stupidly low for the majority of my time so that, when the time comes to have a night out with the Mrs I can just enjoy myself. Last night was probably the most ā€œhumanā€ I’ve felt since the summer.

Upgraded my Ironmasters with the heavy handle kit

Now they go up to 95lbs. Also discovered I was using 80lbs this whole time vs 75, so that is cool.

I’m jealous of the flat ends. That’s way better than the threaded bars that stick out from the ends of mine.

@FlatsFarmer Bomb proof too, which shouldn’t be a shocker, haha. Such a fantastic product.

@Frank_C it makes the extra cost worth it. Very innovative design.

40 BW reverse hypers

Notes: Back on earlies. I honestly prefer this shift, as it’s minimal disruption to my nutrition and lifestyle. I’m slightly weaker training very first thing in the morning, but whatever.

Main and supplemental work were pretty straight forward. With next week being the 5s week, I think I’m gonna steal a page from Paul Kelso and pause the first 2-3 reps of the set and then gun out the rest.

152 reps on the Poundstones, at 1 rep added per week, marks a full year of progressing on it. I genuinely think this movement is one of the best things I’ve ever done for my physique, as it truly is a full torso workout when it’s all said and done. It’s also now taking up WAY more time than it should, so I might throw on some 2.5s and start back at 100 next go round.

Got in the majority of the daily work while I was there. No conditioning, but got some time later for something quick. Hamstrings feel like piano wire: I’m actually sore from the BBB squats. Kinda cool.

Mrs made me a batch of these keto brownies yesterday

image

Yup, more science experiment food, but these are goddamn delicious, they taste like brownies, and as far as macros go, my wife made it with olive oil instead of coconut, so it’s a TON of monounsaturated fats and some sats and polys. I’ve taken to include it in my evening high fat meal. I’ll swap out some of the peanut butter I’ve been eating, which is probably for the best anyway.

EDIT: Just found out today is National Peanut Butter lovers day, so maybe I’ll start tomorrow, haha.

It is day 3 after my BBB squats and I’m still feeling it! Left leg (feels like hamstring/adductors) is very tight, ā€œpainful lifting leg into jeansā€ kind of tight.

I’ve been continuing to plagiarize your training by adding some high rep empty BB/axle curls into my workouts. I feel like I need to cite you as a source/reference at the end of each of my training/nutrition posts.

I appreciate you sharing all the info that you have.

Steal away dude! I stole all my good ideas, haha. I can’t find anything better than those Poundstones. One set, done once a week: drive the curl bros nuts.

Do you have a video of you doing poundstone curls? I’m particularly interested how they end up being towards then end when they become a full torso workout.
