Well thanks Capt Hindsight, haha. I was too fixated on yumminess vs effectiveness at the time. Had gone a LONG while without eating anything tasty.
Cutting 2lbs to make weight and then acting like I needed to smack on as much weight as possible.
Literally went from 228 to 242 in one night for comp day. M i s t a k e s.
How is this even possible?
6 Wendyās burgers will easily do that. Itās a TON of sodium. In fact, doing a quick look up, thatās 1190mgā¦per burger! 50% of your RDA. So weāre looking at 3x your RDA in one meal: 7140mg of sodium.
Pretty much any fluid you consume at that point is just going to get soaked up. And hell, thatās just from sodium: it says nothing of impact of all the bread/carbs on glycogen stores. This is the ābloatā that geared powerlifters always talk about.
I have got to try this sometime lol.
If you head to Elitefts and search ābloatā, Iām sure youāll find even more resources on it, haha.
Just did that - fantastic stuff. Actually, Iām planning to do a big fast-food trawl at the end of the year as a celebration of finishing my cut, so that will be the perfect opportunity to turn this new knowledge into action. I will of course be writing a full report.
Just got done with a Daveās Triple, a chili (I like the side options at Wendyās), and a diet coke (feel a little silly with that one, but I just canāt justify extra calories in regular pop).
I keep a list of fast food meals and their nutritional value. This one comes in at: 1390 calories, 93 g fat, 32 g carb, and 86 g pro. Not a bad lunch IMO if not trying to loose weight.
I could not agree less. Thatās the complete and total opposite of everything Iāve ever witnessed.
Itās all fun and games 'til you check out the sodium on that one ![]()
Iāve never paid much attention to sodium (perhaps I should). In fact, I used to add salt to crystal light pre workout. I stopped that as it seems a bit much, and tasted terrible.
@mnben87 I always get the diet coke too. More room for food, haha. And Iāll knife and fork the burger too. I figure you musta too if youāre only getting 32 grams of carbs out of that.
@dagill2 Concur as well. My appetite dwindles when I do nothing. I actually make sure to train hard before work so I can spend the whole time being hungry.
There are a couple of studies on this
Iāll find and link them in my log later
I was looking at the wrong row in my fast food spread sheet. It is actually 53 g carbs. I donāt get ketchup, so that saves a bit. The chili only has 21 g I guess.
That makes more sense. Keto friendly bread/buns have been a real godsend for me to re-experience those burger feelings. Although these days Iām eating WAY more salmon burgers than beef, haha.
Meanwhile, I just watched a co-worker that had been trying to sell me on the Carnivore diet to fix my health eat 4 cookies, and apple and a carrot. Perhaps we have a different understanding of what a carnivore isā¦
Are you doing a keto diet? I have found the low carb tortillas to be pretty good for taste, nutrition and they cost about the same at ALDI. They can work for a burger shell. More fiber and protein, and IIRC, between the tortillas at ALDI the standard has 140 cal, and the low carb has 80 (they are the same size approximately).
Not at all. I donāt think being in ketosis would be ideal for me. I just keep carbs on the low side.
I use a lot of low carb tortillas. I buy from a company called Mr Tortilla that makes a 1 carb street taco tortilla that is pretty awesome, and Mama Lupeās makes a 3 carb one that holds a bit more food. Fantastic for a variety of tacos.
Are there specific reasons, just wondering ?
I feel and perform better whenever I do that, and it allows me to include more fats in my diet, which also allow me to feel and perform better. Iāve seen night and day changes by including a high fat meal before sleep each night during this weight gain phase compared to when I was dropping weight.
That makes sense.
I thought I was weird. I find my joints feel better and Iām happier when I eat higher fat foods even if calories are the same
