Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

@alex_uk @flappinit Cheers lads. I’ll have a gander through your logs for this BtM

@Alex_uk You also only trained 3 days a week, haha. But you still saw some killer results. You ate like a champ.

@Flappinit excellently put. And man, the training is brutal enough that you NEED that food.

@zeptrey your log is a great demonstration of how much fuel is needed to get through it all. Loved the food updates.

Notes: Website is being terrible right now: will put down thoughts later. Fran after a press workout is quite an experience.

EDIT: Better access now. This workout continues to feel better as I’ve included the strict press back in the supplemental work. I’m becoming a better presser, which is allowing me to express better strength in the press. Hitting doubles instead of singles on the rest pause sets was awesome, and I honestly didn’t blow my brains out on the final rep like I normally do.

Supplemental work felt strong.

I blacked out on rep 3 of the first set of the dips. That seems to keep happening.

Strongman fran at the end of a press workout is a whole other animal. I was dying.

Working the night shift tonight. Did tabata high handle trap bar lifts before coming in. Feeling primed.

We just had a 3 day lockdown

Second round yeah. First round was aggressive though.

See our first round wasn’t too bad. Sure gyms shut but you could always exercise outside.
And I was one of the lucky few who could to work so I never got stir crazy

@kleinhound Similar situation: I never got to telework through this time. Been working through it all. I get to see the restrictions more in how often I can eat inside a restaurant or if/when I’m suddenly a home school teacher, haha.

Some thoughts.

I actually weighed myself after my shower tonight before heading into work, and was 181.4. Given this is post Thanksgiving and a day of eating, rather than a first thing in the morning weigh in, there’s a fair chance I’ve gained zero pounds since I started “gaining weight”. No surprises as to what is going on: my food intake is up, but so is my activity, and I’m just burning what I’m eating.

That said, I’m not too upset about that. As much as more muscle is cool, what’s been a real positive is that I may weigh as much as I did before and may be as lean as I was (the mirror seems to reflect that), but I feel completely different. I’m much more “my old self” than I was at the peak of my weight loss. I was lethargic and honestly wondering if I had depression, as I had zero interest in doing anything (I’d have free time and just do nothing), whereas now I am feeling the aggression, anger and hunger I used to have. It’s not 100%, but it’s much better than before. I attribute this to the fact that, along with having more food in general going through my body, my dietary fat intake is higher, with a concentrated effort to intake GOOD saturated fats from organic cage free eggs and occasional grass fed beef. I still can’t get myself to fully commit to the Mountain Dog approach of a daily intake of beef and butter, but if I can pass my lipids in Jan and have my doc off my back, I’m willing to give that a shot.

It’s also worth disclosing that I’ve been using BioTest’s “Alpha Male” for around 6 weeks now after I saw @The_Mighty_Stu give it a recommendation. I really thought all OTC test boosters were bunk, but his word is enough for me to give something a shot. It said to give it 4 weeks to kick in, and maybe it’s done some good.

I really didn’t want to weigh myself, as I didn’t want to get in my own head about numbers, but this was actually a pretty reassuring reveal. I no longer plan to lose weight in Dec, but will still make dietary shifts just to show up at “my best” for my blood lipid panel. I also have a 4.5lb grain fed prime rib roast in my fridge right now that has a best buy date of 12 Jan, and I will eat all 4.5 goddamn pounds of it because honestly f**k everything.

Ok, I’ll share it with my family. But they’re not big eaters, so maybe 4lbs.

And I keep saying it, but once again, if I can get the nod from the docs, I DO want to put on some actual bodyweight. It’s been a holding pattern these past 2 months when I thought it’d be a time for growth, and I’m just anxious for some change. Competition would be great too, but work is always the x-factor there.

How in the fuck do we weight the same…lol. it boggles the mind.

I’m gonna wager that my trick is that I’m shorter, haha. I’m 5’9.

Same height

I’m going to say it’s probably also because my beard is quite heavy

Well now that is interesting, haha. I am quite slight of frame, so that might be part of it.

I find that SUPER hard to even conceptualise haha

Got small wrists, long, thin fingers, narrow shoulders, etc. Comes from my dad. Whenever I shake hands with fellow strongman (man, remember when we’d shake hands before COVID?) it’s always comical how thin my hands are compared to these dudes that are wearing catcher’s mitts year round. Helps with grip stuff though, so that’s cool.

Shook hands with a giant this weekend. 6’7 and just massive. I felt like a little girl when I shook his hand. The smirk he gave let me know he felt like he was shaking a little girls hand too :man_facepalming:

Been there for sure in my sport. However, the most eye opening was meeting my wife’s grandfather. He was a farmer in Iowa, been farming is whole life. He had diabetes, was in his 80s, stood about 5’6 and not an ounce of fat on him at a very slim/wiry bodyweight, and when I shook his hand it was like shaking a boxing glove. Decades of heavy, hard work on the farm can’t be replicated.

@kleinhound you have 120lbs in your quads alone. Same weight doesn’t surprise me.

I’m half and inch shorter than you and 10lbs heavier. Fuck.

I’m gonna second @simo74 - your legs are massive dude, doesn’t surprise me at all.

Oh those pesky details! Haha definitely didn’t do BtM!

@kdjohn Life was better when I was heavier: don’t give it up, haha.

Kroc rows 115

Notes: Really great workout, especially given the circumstances. Totally did not expect to get those max effort lifts up. I think I may be sticking with this approach of trap bar for max effort and straight bar for supplemental: seems to be beating me up less. Glad I could get the supplemental work on video. I’m being lazy logging the reps right now because the schedule is tight, but work is getting done. May sneak in a quick conditioning workout before work again. On those axle rows, the first set is kind a wasted set, as it takes a bit to figure out the movement, but once I do it’s really solid.
