Rebirth of the Juggernaut: Brute Force and Ignorance (Part 1)

Thor went to do some training with Bas Rutten. On YT now.

Literally saw Thor’s hand speed increase over the course of the video.

The chasm between a Bas Rutten and mere humans…

Thor being able to fight is a terrifying thought…

Dinner

And dessert

Thank god, it was genuinely embarrassing watching his yes-men fawn over him while he displayed the worst boxing technique I’ve ever seen.

What is that dessert?

@dagill2 Thanks dude!

@punnyguy Bas is the man! Good to see him getting work.

@heretolog Pumpkin cheesecake. Wife made it special for me. Uses omega 3 eggs, grass fed butter, fat free cream cheese, low far gram cracker crust, and monkfruit sweetener.

Had an absolute blast today. Bought some philosophy and comic books, picked up some Elk to try on the grill from a local butcher shop, hit up Dave and Busters with the Mrs, and just fed the soul.

Sounds like a helluva day, might try and make something similar for thanksgiving!

That’s our plan moving forward! Even the kid liked it. It’s SUPER light. Dangerous really: you could eat the whole thing, haha.

One other gift I just bought for myself

It was just too perfect.

I honestly got a little emotional today. Just finished up lunch with the Mrs, talked about how it was really good, and then just paused and said “It feels REALLY good just to eat like a normal person for once” Didn’t realize how much living like this was getting to me. 3 months to get my lipids in check was nothing, but then adding on another 3 months to wait and see if I can keep them down without the meds has made this feel like the longest goddamn weight cut of my life. A day where I just ate a f**king burrito with the shell or a cheeseburger with the bun and not having to dissect everything and alter it and optimize it was good for the soul but also just a moment for me to remember what life was like “before”. I’ve decided that if my doc comes back after this and says to get back on the statins, I’m going to get a second opinion from an actual cardiologist before getting back on the meds. I figure my triglycerides and HDL gotta account for something as far as ratios go. But I also just have hope that I’m able to keep things in check with how clean I’ve been living.

AM WORKOUT (0415 wakeup via dog)

Longest weighted vest walk yet w/80lb vest

Going to do my best to make this the only “training” I do today. Been pushing things hard and got the half marathon tomorrow. Stomach is a little upset from everything I ate yesterday, but otherwise no worse for wear. Veins were coming out crazy last night from all the carbs: spooked the Mrs when she saw my arms.

Just in time for Halloween, nice.

Back on the program. Tried an elk sirloin. Not bad. Typical sirloin really.

And that is a Pokémon paper plate under the salad. One of my birthday gifts is not doing dishes, and my kid did the decorating this year.

It’s funny; maybe it’s just the logs that I follow, but there seems to be a “wave” going around of training realizations. I’ve been talking with @garagerocker13 and @Frank_C about this shift where training suddenly stops being beneficial and starts running us down. This thing that’s supposed to be a healthy lifestyle/hobby starts becoming “unhealthy”, at least mentally.

My primary doctor told me I was fine when my cholesterol came back “high” because my ratios were good. She even added that she liked my ratios better when my cholesterol was 215 compared to 170. You definitely ought to get a second opinion. There’s nothing wrong with that.

I’m trying to live like this within reason. I can’t eat like a fat kid but I’m not beating myself up anymore. I’m not sure which physique I’d like more - the guy who looks jacked in a shirt or the guy who looks shredded shirtless. The dilemma really answers itself but I still fight it.

  • I’m rarely shirtless in front of anyone but my wife
  • shredded means I’m hungry all the time
  • shredded also “looks thin” in regular clothes
  • jacked looks decent and is never hungry
  • and most importantly, no one cares besides me

I have been at peace with how unhealthy my training and living have been: just didn’t track on how much I missed my teenage eating. Been a LONG time, haha.

Appreciate that dude. When I clocked 200 on LDL alone I was willing to entertain meds just to get back to a good baseline, but now that I have it, I don’t see a need to go back.

I have zero issues eating how it takes to be lean: it’s the eating for health that gets to me. Performance was much simpler and far less restrictive.

They say that our body makes most of our cholesterol. My doctor told me I could only affect it by about 10% through diet. Well, I dropped from 215 to 170 so I proved that theory wrong. The strange thing is that I cut out chicken and eggs to do it. Chicken isn’t exactly on the list of high cholesterol foods. I suspect that the American way of raising chicken has an impact on how our body reacts to it.

I find it funny that they tell us to reduce saturated fat for high cholesterol. It’d be cool if they could figure out what causes our body to create more cholesterol. I think the body is reacting to a stimulus but I don’t think it’s purely saturated fats.

From my limited reading, food quality definitely plays a role. I’ve been making changes as I go, and it’s been worthwhile. I definitely miss grain fed beef, but grass fed butter is delicious, as are cage free eggs.
