I’ve never been a fan of corn from a nutritional standpoint, but it’s a yummy food item. We’ve been having sweetcorn here while it’s in season. Mrs can prepare it fantastically.
To say nothing of the delicious mexican food items utilizing corn tortillas.
I just see it as a grain vs something healthful. I so rarely eat carbohydrates that, when I do, I like them to be nutrient dense. It passing through the body almost entirely intact gave me little faith in my body making much use of it, haha. That it’s used to fatten up livestock in place of their natural diet (and the impact that has) also makes it a bit unsettling.
But my wife’s family were corn farmers, so I’ve learned to keep those opinions to myself, haha. It’s a fantastic butter delivery mechanism, along with nachos.
Bit like lycopene in tomatoes but when prepped right you get the goodness, not sure if the same applies to corn, but popcorn certainly seems easy to digest.
I’d have thought the impact is more from feeding excessive volumes of higher calorie food (compared to grass) and wouldn’t have the same impact on humans.
But I’ve never been much of a corn eater myself, so no qualms either way.
No idea if it has the same impact on humans, but grass fed cattle tend to show different qualities from cornfed from what I’ve seen. With us being omnivores, I’m sure we can handle it better, but I’m also sure that, if given the choice between eating corn or something else, there are lots of other “something elses” there that would be a better choice. Just an opportunity cost.
All that said, my wife picked me up a pumpkin donut from Krispy Kreme that I plan to eat at some point, haha. But that’s the thing: if I’m going to make a bad decision, it’s going to be a REALLY good bad decision.
I’ve not done enough research to really know on the matter, but my nutritional philosophy has pretty much always been based around solipsism and brute force, haha.
I’m gonna pitch “Powerlifting Basics Texas Style” to you like I do everyone else due to the “Texas Nutritional Roundtable” section contained within it, which includes a delicious looking corn based recipe, along with lots of great cuisine that would go a long way toward those goals.
I think eating like a Texan will take you far. Draw inspiration from the strongman Texan Stone King Travis Ortmayer
This is funny - I JUST watched a youtube video about his defeat of Aleksandr Karelin a week ago. Greco-Roman Wrestling isn’t exactly a super exciting sport, but Karelin was a monster, would just pick up enormous people off the ground and slam them. Not with Gardner. Pretty much the epitome of Corn Fed.
You have to get pretty patriotic when you realize that we Americans are able to overcome the overwhelming force of Russian might and strength with our innate ability to achieve unfathomable levels of obesity.
Haha you must be on comission! I’ve got the Kindle sample (based on a previous time you recommended it) but not yet got into it. I’ll have another attempt at it soon and pay note to the nutrition side of things.
My problem is not knowledge - I do know how to eat and have over the years done it fairly well, it’s commitment to that, eating for me is significantly hard than training, it takes a more low key effort but over a long long period and is just uncomfortable most of the time if you’re doing it right!
