Reassurance Needed Please

Hi all - I hope you can offer some reassurance!

Three years ago I stopped sleeping properly and became very anxious - doctor put me on citalopram. This helped and I felt ok for about 18 months - tapered off in August 2013.

Two months later issues with sleep started again so I went back on citalopram - awful start up side effects, but sleep slowly got a bit better.

After a serious blip I asked the doctor if he could test for Low-T - he was sceptical, but after asking questions about lack of spontaneous erections and libido he agreed.

Result was ‘5.9’ - ‘normal’ levels - ‘8-30’ (whatever that means). He said that most people he tested were 8-9.5.

He requested a retest an hour earlier in the day (8.20am) and it came back ‘7’.

Result - I requested Low T therapy and he prescribed 5mg Testogel (Androgel) daily with a follow up in 6 weeks.

After just over a week I’m not sure what I think - some spontaneous erections are occurring, it’s easier to get up in the morning and in the afternoons my mood/energy levels seem good.

On the other hand I seem to be a bit depressed in the mornings (I’m never usually depressed).

Is this typical for the first few weeks on Androgel? Does it mean the stuff is working but I just need to wait for it to settle down? I’ve read some research studies saying most effects take 3 or more weeks to properly manifest.

Any advice / reassurance would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Phil

Update - felt very down today - should I stop taking the gel? (9 days in)

Hi ptj, Please go and read “Advice for new guys” and “Protocol for Injections” on the first page. They are referred to as stickies and contain a ton of information related to all the issues associated with TRT. Many of your questions will be answered in there.

What occurs when one starts taking exogenous testosterone, including Androgel, is that your own body will shut down it’s own production of test and some guys end up with lower test than before TRT. This usually results in you feeling even shittier. Schedule a follow up with your doctor and let him know how you feel and what you believe may be happening . He should be aware of this and will likely increase your dosage to 7.5 grams.

The best advice anyone on here can give you is to be proactive about your medical situation and read, read and then read some more. Use the search feature if you have specific questions.

Good luck man.
