Realistic TRT Recomp Progress

@dextermorgan - Did you start with the basic AX-1 Training Camp program and move up from there or choose a different program to start?

I would say I’ve noticed very minimal differences so far – slight mood improvement, basically, but not anything to write home about; it hasn’t been substantial.

Interesting suggestion on the honey – I haven’t heard that before. The Cytomel doesn’t have a taste, so it must differ from the Armour in that regard.

Sorry for the late response on this @bkb333, busy with school vacation and kid stuff.

My 5 days a week look something like:

Day 1 - biceps/abs
Day 2 - triceps/abs
Day 3 - back/abs
Day 4 - chest/abs
Day 5 - shoulders/abs

Each day, there will be some form of HIIT movements, from jumping jacks, squats, planks, running in place all timed and in a sequence together…and I’ll occasionally hop on the elliptical for about 30-45 minutes.

And for each of those days above, I’m doing at least 3 exercises per muscle, 3 sets at increasing reps per set (12, 15, 17).

I used to run something like this:

Day 1 - biceps/triceps
Day 2 - chest/back
Day 3 - shoulders/abs

Standard structure - 3 exercises per muscle, 3 sets w/static reps of 10 per set.

I got very bored with what I used to run and wasn’t pleased with the results, so that’s why I switched it up to what I’m doing now. I wanted to drop fat and work on more definition, hence the increased rep count (not even sure if that’s a myth or real?).

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it. Back in my youth (24-28), I was much leaner and stronger. Back then, I remember I was running 3.5 miles a day at least 3 times a week and that seemed to really help keep me in better shape (along with the lifting of course). For the record, I HATE running…hate it and don’t want to do it, but short of going back to running, I’m sort of at a loss on how to decrease my body fat %. Any suggestions on how to get down to 12% are appreciated…haha.

On the libido front - things are going well here. Sex 6 times in the last 9 days. I think my wife is getting tired of me…haha. I’m going to have to peel it back some and slow down I think to give her a break and keep things fresh and exciting, but damn…the second we start cuddling or kissing in bed, I can’t keep my hands off of her.

Hope you are doing something fun to you for New Years!

Armour is pig gland…so, it has to have some strange taste I’m sure…and it’s not good. I recall thinking it would taste like what licking an asshole would taste like…it’s awful.

Did your doctor give you a time frame in which you’d feel something? Maybe you either need more time or a higher dose?

I’m going to suggest some modifications to your programming, but before I do: do you have any injuries or previous ailments that limit you (particularly thinking lower-body, as that area seems to be missing)?

Thank you for the suggestions/tips, anything is appreciated!

Lower body is lacking, that is true. No major injuries, but have had some issues with my lower back as I’ve gotten older.

Also, I’m in a home gym too and equipment might be limited, but very eager to see what you suggest.

Been thinking about my biggest health/fitness revelations of 2019…

  1. Doing mobility and stretching before every workout — I perform a 10-minute routine based on my body’s needs, combining online research with chiropractor recommendations — will do wonders for alleviating knots/joint pain/discomfort. I used to feel stiff and sore and my body would crack constantly; I now feel loose all the time. As Tom Brady would say, I am pliable  It’s a hassle when you first start but just gotta build it into your workout time and soon it becomes second nature.
  2. Time under tension is vital for hypertrophy! Lower the weight, go slower , contract muscle fibers, emphasize full range of motion, get that mind-muscle connection firing. There’s a reason bodybuilders harp on it.
  3. It’s not the worst thing if you occasionally consume some Frankenstein protein (shake, bar, etc), but it shouldn’t be built into your daily diet, and it will give you digestive issues. It makes me fart all day. Focus on meats, egg whites, etc. Save the fake stuff for ā€˜treats’ like when you go to the movies.
  4. If you want to lose weight, stick to eating whole foods and it will fly off — you’ll be full all day. If you want to gain weight, mix in some processed (but still healthy) stuff. I like rice cakes and peanut butter but could eat that snack allllll day. Metformin also helps with appetite control and I’ll probably utilize it when I cut again.
  5. Getting peeled is nice — you’ll attract more attention and compliments, which offers a good ego boost — but caloric restriction can lead to a weird obsession with food. I even started dreaming about it! Going to that extreme also encumbers your social life and can harm your hormones. Looking shredded is undeniably great, and I’ll do it again, but it comes with plenty of downsides. It’s probably healthier for your all-encompassing life to hold a bit more fat, at least for most of the year. Plus: no one really gives a shit if you’re at 15% or 8% BF. People only care about themselves and probably won’t even notice, honestly. It’s in your head.

And some things I plan to work on in 2020…

  1. Stick to one plan for the whole year. Iā€˜ll run the Renaissance Periodization 5-day split, which includes built-in deloads, for all of 2020. At least the first few months of the year will be chest/back focused. After that, I’ll decide if I want to switch to a different focal area. But I won’t be program-hopping this year. I want to track my progression as scientifically as possible, and sticking to one plan will be key. I’ll also be consistently weighing myself; I’ve learned to love the objective feedback of the scale.
  2. Eat more veggies! Get them with at least 2 meals/day. Along the same lines as above: less Frankenstein protein.
  3. Spend most of the year gaining size. I’m sure I’ll want to lean out for the summertime, but considering my goal is to be lean and 200-plus someday, my muscle mass needs to increase significantly. You can’t chisel a pebble! Fortunately, I’ve come a long way in terms of body image. I’m hanging around 15% right now and it doesn’t bother me at all; in fact, I feel great. In the past — as a former fat kid with the typical psychological baggage — I’d be beating myself up and feeling like I needed to lean out. I think life experience has combined with T to make me not give a shit.

Thanks for reading. Anyone else have suggestions for what I should work on?

I did but I also filled out the questionnaire thing and that’s what was suggested where I start.

I just finished the ā€œAthleanx perfect ____ workoutā€ free on YouTube. Each muscle group has it’s own video. I got great results.

This is awesome! Thank you @dextermorgan, really appreciate it.

Looking to switch it up into 2020 and this plus what @bkb333 has up his sleeve should be what the boredom doctor ordered.

Hope your doing something fun tonight.

I have a girl that I haven’t seen in 10 years coming up. She’s a bombshell Southern blond and a freak. She doesn’t know the TRT me… Yet. I’ll be going all 50 Shades of Gray on that ass. She won’t walk right for a week. Bringing 2020 in with a bang bay-bay!

Absolutely — gonna be present with the fam this evening (might even have a drink or two!), but I will send you some detailed feedback/programming ideas that I think will help you via email in the next day or two. Not that I’m an expert on any of this stuff, but I’ve consumed a lot of content in the past year. God bless the internet.

Lol, you hold it down for the single guy crowd around here! Love it, brother.

I don’t care what it tastes like. The taste is temporary. The feeling of energy and being healthy is all day. I’m willing to have a little inconvenience for long term health. For me crushing it up makes a massive difference in effectiveness. If you feel great as is don’t change a thing. I’m happy for you

Crush it, since I’ve been on I also had luck!

Those of us living vicariously through you need an update!

I’m struggling hard today

I’m not @dextermorgan (no one really is…) But the wife and I had some nice new years sex about 2am. I was worried because we’d had sex 6 times in the last 9 days and I had many too many beers… But all worked as planned, but took a little longer. Sex 7 times in the last 10 days. I think I’m going to back off and give my wife a break…haha

Hope you had a great night.

Back off your dose or just not initiate as often for a while?

Great time here as well - crazy NYE sex at 2 am followed by epic morning sex six hours later! :muscle:

Same time! Sex jinx.

I’m not backing off… Just initiate less I guess. I want to keep that feeling in the tank in case. Haha

Glad to hear you had fun last night (and this morning).
