Another crowdsourcing question: Thoughts on regularly seeing a chiropractor/massage therapist for tissue work as part of recovery? I’ve been lifting so often lately (6-7 days a week) that I always feel kind of tight and just generally sore and banged up, like an athlete. All the pro fitness folks seem to do this for recovery, but I’m obviously not in that category. Though I’m caught up in the pursuit of gainz, I want to preserve my body as well as I can as I age. I want to be that spry old guy!

This type of work can get expensive, but I’m wondering if it’d be worth the investment to see someone every couple weeks. Anyone have personal experience with this?

I was doing this and basically, the cost is what cause me to stop. I also saw an acupuncturist for 5 years and he did wonders for my aches and pains. Moving is the only reason I stopped seeing him

I love going to the chiro and with my insurance it’s free. When I was racing dirt scooters I was going twice a week.

I’ve never had a message but I think I’m really close to getting one. I’m the same as you right now, 6-7 days a week and feel like there’s all kinds of little spots that would benefit from some pressure and message

Seriously? Dude, you need to break that cherry :joy:

Dude no kidding :joy: I’m torn between the seedy Asian place and a legit fancy sports place :joy:

Actually a friend of mine gets the happy ending massage from the nasty places. From what he’s told me, its pretty gross. Not sure why he does it. I say, pull your own spud.

Just go to a nice spa and get the deep tissue massage. Take the wife, or GF, or SO and have a couples massage. Cost a little more but its worth it in brownie points.

Solid advice! I was half joking anyways…half… lol.

Taking the wife is a great idea!

Man, those honestly sound revolting to me. No appeal whatsoever.

Free with insurance?! You must have some crazy coverage! That’s amazing. Bro, definitely try out a massage – it’s an amazing feeling. Just wonder if it’s worth it or just an unnecessary temporary relief.

Really? Fascinating. I’ve never tried acupuncture. I might have to give that a shot, brother!

I have some of the best insurance around. My wife even uses Defy and all the meds are covered. We don’t ever really pay. Even my TRT is covered.

BUT. I pay heavily lol. Just my part is 800 a month.

Get a roller from tigger point performance and other tools. Cheaper and they work well. Get a small ball for the back, calves and shoulders and you can YouTube how to use them to massage the back and etc.

I also bought an electric massager form brooks or whatever that shop is called in the mall.

I consider my insurance pretty good too. How did you find out defy was covered? Did you contact the insurance company and ask or did you just try to submit a claim one day and it worked?

What carrier do you have?

You should also checkout dry needling instead of acupuncture. It uses the same needles but they poke the sore/tight spots to make them release and loosen, instead of use voodoo and chi or whatever to poke random areas.

I love getting it done. I started it to help with tennis elbow but that cleared up and she mostly did my traps and upper back. I did it every 3-6 weeks for about 6 appointments. Now I’ll just go if I get a sore spot lingering.

My insurance covers dry needling. In my state dry needling has to be done by a physical therapist, I assume its the same in all states.

Defy will do the paperwork which you can then submit to insurance. Whether they pay or not is a whole other topic. I’m going to try to submit all my blood tests at least and see what happens… who knows, maybe they will pay it.

Good to know! I’ll look into that

My acupuncturist was nothing like this. His shit was spot on and targeted stress as well injuries. He also applied electricity to the needles to activate blood flow.

I did this too. My insurance actually wound up sending me a check for a small portion of it, but something is better than nothing!!

On a side note, be aware that Defy does charge for the paperwork to submit to the insurance.
