Realistic TRT Recomp Progress

After 3 weeks I noticed that I felt a lot sharper and happier mentally, and my libido went up as well. I have noticed strength gains to an extent as well, nothing huge though. My body fat dropped a tad while I was still building muscle and gained 3 pounds so far. I think the physical changes will start kicking in a lot more this week onward.

Sounds very similar to my experience. I’m sure your changes are only beginning – get ready for some fun, dude! Keep us posted on the amazing gains to follow.

After showing my ā€˜after’ photos to a bunch of folks, it’s become very clear I need to focus on my lower body. I carry a lot of BF in my thighs (better than other areas, I guess), so that makes them look extra bad. Time to train hard and get some wheels!

I looked around at a bunch of programs and am thinking of running nSuns’ 6-day squat-focused split. Here’s a look at what I’d be doing:

I should note that I’m not sure about these maxes because I never come close to maxing out. What do you think, fellas?

I think you’re going to find that routine lacking in hams and calves.

I would do a full 3x10-12, or 5x4-6 alternating squats, leg press, and extensions for quads, standing leg curls, lying leg curls, and lunges for hams twice a week…and blast calves for at least 3 good sets everyday.

I find many of these routines that are too focused. Remember that a lot of these are written by bodybuilders who are trying to target a specific area for balancing out before show time. Keep your routine balanced and a build the hell out of everything. 6 months to a year from now, start doing your self evaluations and then lean more heavily on the specific muscles you need to tweak for balance, but don’t make the mistake of neglecting the others while you do that. You may find that you grow that muscle too much and then the others look too small by comparison.

I hear you, brother. One of the things that appealed to me about this routine is that I could do it all in my home gym, which is great but is far less equipped than yours (basically just a rack, some plates, DBs, and a hex bar). When school is in session, I only work out at home, as the campus gym gets MOBBED with students.

So, during the semesters, I’d have a hard time with leg curls, extensions, etc. Think I should just swap those out with different exercises like hip thrusts, DB lunges, etc? Was thinking I’d do BB calf raises to hit the calves. Not necessarily as ideal as a specialized calf raise machine, but definitely better than nothing!

I definitely get that!

You can do calves with just BW. Stand on a board or something and just work 10 reps really slow, then 10 really fast, then 10 more slow, then 10 more fast. 3 sets of that will do the trick. For hammy’s you can do a lot of different things. Walking lunges with DBs work really well too.

You don’t have to have a ton of weight. Make do with what you have brother and make it hard by taking more time under tension.

Throw in some romanian deads. Glute ham raises if you have something or someone to hold your ankles.

For calves I like single standing calf raises with a dumbbell. Another is donkey calf raises. You could go old school and get your wife on your back or if you have a dip belt, hook weight to the chain and do them that way. Body weight with a 5 second pause at top, 5 second negative and a 5 second stretch in the bottom will also light them up.

Non-physique-related update: My libido is in an amazing place right now. I am doing daily injections, ~30 mg per day (~210 mg/week), of T-cyp, alternating between the delts.

I have a consistent sex drive for the first time in years; my wife and I were having sex about once every 10-14 days before TRT. Now, it is an almost daily occurrence. Very grateful to be feeling so much better – dialing this protocol in!

End of May (left) - End of July (right)

I might be overthinking it – Lord knows we’re often bad at evaluating ourselves – but I think I’ve made some gains in the past two months!

I’d say arms and shoulders look better for sure. And seem a little crisper as well! Super jelly

Definitely in the arms and shoulders as @wanna_be said. Damn, your life certainly has changed in the last few months. All ripped up and pounding kitty every day

Thank you, brother!

Man, it’s funny you said this. I really felt I was looking fluffier. We sure are bad at seeing ourselves objectively.

Lmao! You’re the man. I appreciate the kind words, brother. Testosterone is one hell of a drug. I’m never going back to the pre-TRT life and don’t understand why anyone would want to (edit: with the exception of fertility/health concerns).

Still on 30mg daily? Libido still strong and no negative sides?

Nice progress.

Thanks, man. Pinning myself daily was getting inconvenient, so I’m in the midst of experimenting again with 3X a week @ 70 mg per injection. I can’t say I’ve really noticed a difference. The two protocols seem to be similar in their effects.

With SHBG as high as ours I doubt you’ll notice much difference, it seems to have a buffering affect IMO so that smooths things out some regardless

Have you ever considered the creme that’s out now instead of injections? I’m switching to that. Supposedly shbg matters less when going that route

Yessir, I was on the cream for the first couple months of my TRT regimen. You can see the process of that (and my switch to injections) documented at the top of this thread. I prefer injections but I’m certain you can get awesome results with cream, too.

You guys can reduce your SHBG by adding Masteron (at least that’s the consensus) then you wouldn’t have to pin so often

Interesting! I haven’t heard of that approach before. Is that something that a TRT clinic would be able to prescribe, or would it require alternative sourcing? So you’d add it on top of the T?

I doubt your Doc would do it unless he’s was pretty progressive and had some literature to support it. @zeek1414 is the one who talks about it alot. He might respond here.
