Great maxing going on in here. I think you have more on the squat
just sayin…Alsp are you pulling that max dead with double overhand? Mixed grip and chalk is probably all you need to add even 20 lbs on top of that.
MiM - I’m sure you can hold your own with the big PLer dudes; how’d it go?
Masch & N - I definitely like using the belt, but it sure ain’t ‘magic’. ![]()
Oh, and Masch, save your $ and rent SATC2 if you wanna see it; it wasn’t worth the ticket price. I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece, but the ‘snappy’ dialogue that I loved in the show felt really forced and corny at times, there seemed to be a lot of tension between the actors, and the movie was WAY too long. There were a couple of redeeming moments, and a few laughs, but mostly I was just waiting for the damn thing to end.
T - Love the French/Spanish mix, 2 sexy languages ftw. Thanks. ![]()
Cal - Yep, chalk is for sure my next purchase! And more grip work (which I’ve been slacking on)!
Bear - Yeah, I think you’re right on regarding the food thing. And glad to hear I’m on the right track with what I need to work on.
Owlie - You might be right about the squat, but I was nervous to try more without a spotter, plus there was a man waiting very patiently for the power rack, which I’d been hogging for a good 45-50 mins at that point. Haha. I was using mixed grip for the deads, but chalk (and better form) should help immensely.
No training yesterday. Had a lovely day of food, rest, and sun laying on a beach at a nearby lake, followed up by some Greek food for dinner (mmm, Moussaka), and game 1 of the Stanley cup finals.
Today, will be sitting in the sun some more and head into the gym to max out on OHP.
Sounds like a good weekend!
There was only one Pl dude and an old oly lifter guy who loaded a 45 onto the bar for me while I was loading the other…haha. I didn’t ask of course, he just came over to be helpful I guess… he’s a nice dude…
The PL dude is intimidating looking but I’ve talked to him before and really he’s a nice guy…just has the bald, big and tattooed thing going on. He’s quiet and observes people in between sets but doesn’t say anything…
There were some guys with bb’ing.com shirts on that were attempting to squat next to him, while he was squatting 4pps!!!
Yep, great weekend! Soaking up the sun in the park with my girlfriend was great. Put me in a great mood until I got home from the gym and found that my load of delicates (90% of my bras & undies, and my 4 favourite sweaters) which I’d put in the wash just before leaving, had been put in the drier. My bro decided to do his laundry too, and ignored my basket sitting on top of the washer, which he could have left my stuff sitting in, and instead transferred them to the drier. For 10 years I’ve been hanging up 99.9999% of my laundry, but he didn’t think to stop a moment and maybe call or text me to see what he should do with my stuff. Maybe he was trying to be helpful, but I’m too mad right now to think that’s nice. Especially since 2 of the sweaters might as well go in the trash now.
[/silly rant]
Ok, training. OHP max day. Meh, not impressed with myself:
(1) BB OHP:
75% = 65 lbs x5
85% = 75 lbs x3
95% = 85 lbs x1 = big grind
2 attempts at 90 lbs. Failed both times, halfway up. I got almost 5 reps at 80 lbs last week, so I expected to at least get that up once. Next time!
(2)* Chin-ups 2x2, then W.G. Pull-ups 5x2
(3a) Inverted Row 3x10
(3b) 1-arm DB OHP 3x10: 20 lbs
(4) 1-arm High cable row 4x10: 6 plates/7 plates x2 sets/6 plates
*Here I started doing 90s intervals on the stationary bike between sets for some ‘active rest’.
Now, time to eat dinner #1. I’ll be having dinner #2 later on with the man. Back to work tomorrow afternoon. Boo.

‘Attempting to squat’ lol
ooh! Looks like I’m still chasing you on the OHP!! Haven’t attempted 85 yet…maybe tomorrow!!
eek, sounds like something I would do with the laundry blush
When the man and I first started living together and doing laundry, I’d wash his red shirts with my white shirts, teehee…I honestly didn’t know!! My mom never taught me how to do laundry, lol…

ya huh!! nods emphatically while giving 2 thumbs up
umm…you can do 5x2 WG pullups?! You are my hero!
Great pressing Blue!
done and done - I’m a SATC fan, but if the movie’s not up to par then I’ll just rent it. Thanks!
Ok, so Bear, lemme ax you something - I too unintentionally eat big on one day and then go lift the next morning on minimal eats (ex. coffee and a few nuts). I do feel like it benefits my lifts. do you (or anyone else) know if there’s any science behind this? i’m just curious.
^ cause your muskulls are full of yummy glycogen for $200 please? ![]()
sucks for the clothing Blue… house rule at my place: if your NOT SURE if it goes in the dryer or not, hang it! plus we have 2 baskets. One for dryer and one for hang dry. The hubbie has no excuses. But I must say he’s pretty good with it. ![]()
We sound like a bunch of hobbits: “I’m just about done dinner 1 and will be prepping dinner 2 in a couple hours… Will you be joining me for 2nd breakfast Blue?” lol. ok, end geek moment.
So many random comments to make, so little time:
Loved the bench video, and super-sick arch. I was cheering for you the whole way up. I tell my husband (the spotter) not to touch the bar in that same exact tone of voice.
I am so happy I am not the only one who sulks after missing a deadlift weight that in my mind I can make. And I totally have done the same thing of dropping the weight to check form after ugly back rounding has royally pissed me off.
Your list of deadlift things-to-fix is MY list of deadlift things-to-fix. Good luck to both of us!
I ordered my belt in forest green, and I hope its MAGIC. ![]()
Nice work on your strict press, gorgeous. 100 is in sight!!
Masch - Thanks! I was very happy about the pull-ups. It made up for my disappointment regarding my DL and OHP maxes.
N - Heehee, hobbits.
Kimba - We’ll work on our deadlifts, and race to 2x BW. I approve of the forest green. ![]()
Owlie - Thanks! I was hoping to be closer to 100, but one step at a time.
Today is squat deload, and hill sprints, and more sun! Gotta love having such a gorgeous day off work.
Blah. That’s how I feel. And slightly worried about my left knee (that I’ve had surgery on).
Got to the gym very cranky, and unmotivated as hell, but did my squat deload anyways.
(1) Squat 3x5:
40% = 75 lbs x5
50% = 90 lbs x5
60% = 110 lbs x5
=> I did these ass to grass, with a slow eccentric, and a pause in the hole. I really focused on keeping my shoulders back, chest up, and booty sticking out in the hole to maintain an arch in my back. This made the weights feel way harder.
(2) Box Squats to parallel 4x6: 95 lbs
=> Figured I’d give these a shot with a wide stance, and trying to sit back like in Bear’s vid. Very tough!
(3) GHR on lat pulldown: 6/4
=> Blah. Didn’t want to do any more.
Then I headed to my hill for sprints. Did my usual warm-up, and then started the sprints. My left knee felt wonky on the first one, but I did 3 more hoping the feeling would go away. It didn’t. Normally I don’t notice my knee at all during the hill sprints, so I’m very weirded out by it. Even walking around the house now, I’m getting intermittent sharp pains in my knee if I step or turn wrong.
Very worrisome, especially since I don’t know what I did to cause it. I think it may have something to do with it being the week before my period (hi boys!), so everything’s a little bit weaker than normal. I’m going to keep the intensity on everything very low the rest of the week, and hope that it improves.
when/what was the surgery for? Did you get proper Physical therapy after?
Maybe it’s the simple fact you’ve been doing too much? I’m not sure. Have you been stretching? I haven’t had surgery, but I have knee issues. I avoid things like running and jumpy sort of movements cause I’m left in pain for a couple days.
I’ve read that some of the risks of surgery is still dealing with stiff knees later. Maybe that’s whats happening?
Surgery was 3 years ago. ACL reconstruction and removal of torn bits of meniscus. Yep, did lots of Physical Therapy after and was given a clean bill of health.
I’ll get little twinges every so often, but they normally go away if I rest it for a bit. I don’t run anymore, except for the hill sprints, since they never seemed to bother my knees before. Also, plyometrics normally don’t bother it either - in fact, they were part of my PT.
I dunno, I think I’m going to take it easy this week, and then do more single-leg accessory work in the next few weeks to see if that helps.
Did you recently add the hill sprints? Sounds like that might be the culprit!
Blue, I was feelin pretty blah today too. I blame the rain that was drizzlin all day. That kind of temperature just makes me want to curl up in my jammies and blankie and shut the world out with a good book and junk food…
Sucky weather all around. It’s been raining here on and off as well.
Feel better! Glee is coming on next…
Blue, good on you for taking it easy this week - a rest is always merited when you work as hard as you do.
ACL tears are a bitch. I would be very wary too. So its understandable.
