Raw Power

WOW.

great pic BTW

Edit

You look like a young Corbin Bernsen

nice lifting, good looking kid, your wife must be hot:)

Great photo - grin says it all, and some good lifting.
How is your bench form, and where are your sticking points on a heavy set at 90%+?

Wow. Somehow I fashioned you with dark hair. Great pic.

Lol Pete…

Ahhh, nice picture of you two, he is adorable! Bet he cant wait to ski like dad!!

I love water skiing(not that I came even close to your skills), have only gotten out once in like 10 years, surprisingly I was able to slalom, guess its like a bike. The AZ back drop was such a beautiful view, I really need to frame that pic.

A young Corbin Bernsen. Hmm. Not quite Matt Damon, but certainly better than a skinny Christian Bale from the Machinist. I’ll take it.

OMP: I think my bench form is ok, except I tend to flare my elbows a bit. I also use a pretty narrow grip. I haven’t videoed in a while, so who knows. My sticking point is right around 3-board to middle of the ROM I’d say.

Light Bench Day, Vertical Asst.

Bench: 45 x20, 135 x5, 185 x5, 205 x7, 7, 7, 6, 6.

OHP: 135 x5, 5, 5, 5, 5.

WG Pullups: 10, 8, 8, 7, 7.

Dips: 15, 13, 13.

NG Chins: 7, 6, 6.

Notes: I felt like ass today in the gym for no particular reason and my hands really hurt, but at least I got something done.

Sounds like triceps are suspect. Narrow grip to protect the shoulders?
A wider grip uses slightly less tricep.

My triceps probably are suspect. I need to work in some rolling tris I think and “closer” grip bench press.

Re: shoulders, I don’t want any problems with shoulders and if it costs me some pounds to go a little narrower I don’t mind.

HIIT: I skied in a club fun tourny, two rounds, got 4 @ 28 off both rounds. My hands are so shredded right now its not even funny. I was going to pull tomorrow, but I may let the hands rest a day.

Deads Day:

Deads: 45 x15, 135 x5, 225 x5, 315 x5, 365 x1, 405 x3, 3, 3, 3, 1.

Zerchers (from medium pins, just below parallel): 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x1, 275 x1, 315 x1, 335 x1, 355 x1, 370 x nope.

GM’s: 135 x5, 155 x5, 185 x5.

Notes: Today was kind of a bust. My hands are in bad shape, and I worked my way up to 405 and the bar started getting bloody on my first 405 set and I dropped the bar on the third rep on the way down. So I broke out the straps. I hate straps. I like to dive-bomb on deads and I just couldn’t get set up right with the straps and I was rounding way to much and I felt like I was getting sapped just getting set up. By the last set I was toast, and 5 sets of 3 reps should not have been that hard. Zerchers were fine, 370 almost went, which would have been a PR from this pin height, and I was already spent by the time zerchers rolled around. I probably won’t ski this week to let my hands heal up.

Nice work Jack. Bad hands are a big distraction, but at least those are minor injuries.
I’d like to dive bomb on deads, but I think I’d clear out my gym. It’s a strange place and I’m the odd duck, if you can believe that.

Looks like you’re getting there. Are you still going to the meeting in December? If so are you going to change anything? Also, great picture with your little guy. I remember when mine was that small. Now he looks eye to eye with me. Thank goodness he’s skinny, and he can’t take down the old man.

OMP, thanks for the support. Crippler, I’m probably going to do the Fife Holiday Classic in early December. I’m not sure if I’m going to change much between now and then. I may run a peaking cycle in November, maybe something off the Joe Skopec cite. Skiing is winding down so I’ll probably add in some different conditioning.

Bench Day, horizontal assistance.

Bench: 45 x25, 135 x5, 185 x5, 225 x3, 245 x3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 225 x4, 185 x10.

Krock Rows: 100 x40.

Incline DB Bench: 60s x10, 80s x8, 100s x4, 75s x10.

WG BB Rows: 185 x 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 135 x20.

Hands back plank: 1 min.

Notes: The triples at 245 were harder than I wanted, but it is what it is. The Krock rows really gassed me, 100 feels light until about 30.

Solid work Jack, love seeing 100db inclines…nice…

Just saw the pic at the top. Didn’t realize John Gruden had a log in the O35 section!!! ;-D

Squats Day, Triples.

Squats: 45 x20, 135 x5, 225 x5, 275 x3, 315 x3, 355 x3, 3, 3, 3, 3.

Front Squats: 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x2, 275 x1.

Notes: Squats felt deep and strong and I was spent by the time front squats rolled around. I did front squats to low pins, pretty much rock bottom for me, and deloaded each rep on the pins. Time for several pounds of teriyaki chicken and rice, and then some Haagen Daz.

That’s my kinda workout JK. That is, the refeed.
Nice work on that last front squat off the pins. Sounds like a good one to end it on.

Thanks, OMP.

Bench Day, Vertical Assistance

Bench: 45 x20, 135 x5, 185 x9, 9, 9, 9, 8.

WG Pullups: 9, 8, 7, 6, 6.

Press: 140 x5, 5, 5, 5, 5.

Dips: 15, 13, 12.

WG NG Pullups: 6, 6, 6.

Curls: 45 x20, 20 (slow).

Hands In Plank: 1 Min.

Notes: I felt like ass in the gym, probably not enough food, we were out of eggs so i didn’t get my usual 8-10 plus melted cheese. I’m going to make up for that now.
