reading between the lines, what’s the motivation of Codex Alimentarius … keeping the hippies down ? the spread of fatty beaurocracy and capricous moralistic wielding of power for it’s own sake ? it smells like WADA to me. why do we let gov’t get so much power in the first place ? why do these liberal types vote for big government and then bitch about government ?

Mercola is so easily dismissed it’s not even funny. This guy is a fuckin moron! He preaches that green-tea if bad for you. That idiot must not know that the country that probably consumes the most of it (Japan) also has one of the highest life-expectancies on the planet! Mercola blows.

Don’t even get me started. And this from a guy from Massachusetts. There may be hope after all.

This much is true.
I’m not sure this is the right argument to prove the first point (there is much more low hanging fruit on that site). Japan is a genetically homogeneous population, so their life expentancy might be a function of genetics as much as environment. They eat a ton of white rice too, but no one is recommending that as the key to longevity and good health. If I had to guess an environmental factor responsible for it, it would be the high consumption of fish, moreso than tea.
Of course, that is neither here nor there. Mercola is fucking nuts anyway you slice it.

I highly doubt drinking green tea is making japan live longer.
I agree with Mercola on about 80 % of the stuff he teaches.
I do believe that he gets a little too freaky when he talks about not eating grains or drinking green tea.
But I’m sure you’ll not agree with everyone on everything all the time.
I still think he’s great and I enjoy reading everything he puts out.
It’s not like he’s trying to sell crap all the time, like a lot of drug websites.
If he was trying to make money on his information it wouldn’t be free.
Kinda like T-Nation.

My point was not that green tea is saving them, only that it doesn’t seem to be killing them. They drink the hell out of the stuff.

Dude, read. I never said it’s making them live longer. The fact is that they DO live longer despite the green tea, that Mercola basically says is poison.

Fish AND seaweed is probably why they live so long.
I believe the Japanese longevity is directly linked to thier eating less food than the west.
Calorie restriction is a means to extend life.
That’s also (supposedly) why they’re of slighter stature than “us”.
Milk and green tea are deadly.
Fill up a swimming pool with either and you may drown in it by accident!

First of all,he doesn’t advocate drinking much green tea because of the fluoride content.
He isn’t saying not to drink any green tea at all.
What’s your point?
I said just because they live longer doesn’t mean green tea is the main factor.
No.
You didn’t say green tea makes them live longer, but you’re saying there’s a
direct correlation between their life span and them consuming green tea by saying,
“the country that probably consumes the most of it (Japan) also has one of the highest life-expectancies on the planet!”
Yes,please learn how to read.
It can be a wonderful tool!
Regardless of Mercola quackery or the US Milk lobby, this is something I have lifelong experience with.
I was brought up drinking raw milk, as my family owned a small dairy farm. When I got to college, I had some stomach problems when I started drinking “real milk”. Since lactose intolerance was virtually unknown in the early seventies,I stopped drinking milk altogether for the next ten years or so.
Raw milk contains the natural enzymes and nutrients that are rendered inactive by heat treatment. This is what causes so many problems for people trying to digest any sort of pasteurized, homogenized milk. All the “good stuff” is gone.
I found a local market that sells raw milk, and went back to it shortly before my children were born. They were raised on it, and have no allergies, asthma or intolerance to lactose.
I would recommend it to anyone who has problems with “real milk”. You won’t believe the difference.
Could not agree more with the statements below. Just placing another vote for the raw milk issue. I have had VERY similar experience as the one below, and also have the luck of having a local dairy that sells raw milk here in PA. Same place I buy my eggs, cheese and BACON! (There is also nothing better than farm fresh, never packaged, bacon…Mmmmm, need to fry some up now, LOL.

There’s not a thing wrong with drinking raw milk… Provided the cows are healthy and meticulous sanitation is adhered to.
I looked into getting raw milk for my family and this is how it works, at least in Washington state. You buy ownership of a cow from a small farmer. Each cow produces about 20 gallons a week, so there are 20 owners for each cow and each gets one gallon. Of course you have to pay the farmer a monthly fee to house and feed your cow.
I did a blind taste comparison between the raw stuf, pasteurized organic and regular pasteurized. The raw stuf was far better tasting than the other two. Really no comparison. This wasn’t the fairest test since the raw milk was 8% fat vs the other two at 3 1/2 percent, but it was taste I was curious about.
I chose not to do the co-op deal because the farmer didn’t meet my high standards for sanitation. He was pretty clean, I’m just hyper critical. I really wanted to, though.
Those against raw milk consumption (FDA and others) don’t tell you all the risks they associate with raw milk consumption also exist with pasteurized milk. Pasteurization doesn’t kill all the bugs and the handling of the milk after pasteurization isn’t really that great.
They fill tankers up with the cold milk and ship it for hundreds of miles. This is ok even on the hottest days. There’s so much milk in the tanker it stays cold. The problem is after the tanker unloads, it heads back empty -almost. The tankers heat up on the way back and the residual milk can be a bacterial banquet. When the tanker gets back they reload with no rinsing, cleaning or anything. Now you have a whole tanker with high micro count.
Some of the dangers they associate with raw milk are just silly scare tactics. Scarlet Fever, Polio, etc.
Something T-Nation members might be interested in is pasteurizing denatures most the growth hormone in milk. Raw milk, on the other hand, has all the GH that those organic cows naturally produce. Kind of funny since the organic guys claim their milk is healthier because it doesn’t have all the GH that’s in the milk from non-organic cows. Unpasteurized, organic milk has more growth hormone than regular pasteurized.
Maybe the health of all those old men drinking raw milk really has improved. Due to the extra growth hormone!
BTW, I’m a Food Scientist in the dairy industry.

The organic dairy farmers say “No added hormones.”
No organic farmers say their milk is hormone free.
I think their main concern is it being free of synthetic hormones.
For example,synthetic estrogen.
