Rap/Hip-Hop

Dustin,

Thanks for ruining a good thread about quality music.

What kind of music do you like? All you’ve ever done on here is dis everything anyone says.

you say you know plenty about rap, but then you say you’ll take my word for it [ in regards to older rap] you say that kids that come into your store [15-22] are middle class kids who talk like they grew up in a rough environment. these are kids bro [shit, i’m 21 and i can hardly tell my head from my ass] do you know what you’re doin with yourself [other than talkin out your ass]? you say you dont watch mtv,bet or vh1, but how are you gettin your image of (commercial) rap? and since you are watchin these crap factories, you’re poisoning your mind with nonsense and gettin a distorted view of real hip-hop anyway. you talk about “fads” hip-hop is here to stay. the “seattle look” fell out of favor with the mainstream, but the music lives on and is still some of the best music of all time, regardless of era or genre so who gives a shit if jackass joe shells out 60 bucks for a flannel shirt he coulda got for 15 at a thrift store, just so he can be cool. when that shit happens, you can keep your “mainstream.” heres the deal, get on the internet and look up the last emporer, thirston howell the 3rd, mosdef, jeru the damaja, or even someone whos “commercial” like nas and really listen to them before you write them off as crap. go enlighten yourself then we’ll talk.

As an example of Grunge living on still today, you cannot listen to alternative radio in Southern California without hearing one or more of the following every hour:

Alice-n-Chains
Nirvanna
STP
Pearl Jam
Sublime

These groups haven’t had anything produced that was worth a crap in nearly a decade.

Yet corporate radio pumps this stuff into our earholes because they know we’ll stay tuned in.

I think its all stupid. Eminem walks around all pissed off. Like hes not rich. Fuck him for not being happy when hes got all that money.

Oh my gawd! How could I forget Jurassic 5. That definitely rules.

sublime wasnt really “grung” and “grunge” is something corporate america made up as a marketing tool for selling “rock.” everyband you mentioned [with the exception of nirvana, for obvious reasons] HAS produced good/great music in the last decade, it just hasn’t been a commercial success. just cause you dont see it on mtv doesnt mean it isnt out there. you can take your hijack back now.

just a few of my favorite songs off the top of my head. and who cares if emimem is tough or pissed or how he talks, dresses, or acts bottom line is he can flow with the best of them. do we care how louie simmons acts or how tough he is? no. we just respect the genius and want him to keep coming up with great ideas. if you found out he was a dick would you stop using westside and go back to squatting in the 300’s? i dont think so.

bout 15yrs ago i was made fun of for wearing kinda baggy drawers, more of a skate thing at the time.

Couple yrs later, after Snoop reached the suburbs those same morons got the droopies.

Who gives a damn.

Anyone ever listen to the Wackies label stuff from the late 70’s early 80’s?
“Wack Rap” is a dope old school jam.

JWright-

"Thanks for ruining a good thread about quality music."

Quality music?

"What kind of music do you like?"

I listen to all kinds of music. The only genre I don't listen to is rap. If your wanting to make fun of some music I like then make fun of Led Zeppelin. They're my favorite band. Try to pick them a part and I'll tell why your wrong. Fair enough?

"All you've ever done on here is dis everything anyone says."

What are you talking about? The thread asked if anyone listens to rap/hip-hop? I said no and gave reasons why. I hope you aren't talking about in general I always dis everything people say. If that is what your saying then you are wrong.

Dustin

White Flash-

"you say you know plenty about rap, but then you say you'll take my word for it

I've listened to it enough when I'm with friends or girls I've dated to know what the rappers are talking about in their songs, their struggles, and so on. Like I said, If you think older rap is better then fine.

"...these are kids bro [shit, i'm 21 and i can hardly tell my head from my ass] do you know what you're doin with yourself [other than talkin out your ass]?"

Yes, they are kids. That's what I meant when I said that it was fad. No, unfortunatly rap isn't going anywhere and the styles will always be popular within the people who "live the life", not in suburban America though. Forgive me, I didn't specify well enough. Alternative music(Seattle Movement) is still around, it just not mainstream.

Most images of hip-hop I get are from the mainstream media. Honestly White Flash, I dated a girl once (yes anything is possible) who loved rap music. For her, I tried to give rap an honest chance. It didn't work out needless to say. I listened to the words and tried to be open minded but I just couldn't stand it.

At no point did I say that you couldn't listen to it. I simply responded to the initial post that asked if people like hip-hop. I gave a few reasons why (I have more) I didn't like it. No one has really ever reponded to my reasons why. Also, I wasn't the only person who responded in a negative manner towards rap, but I was singled out for some reason.

Dustin

I still say eminem is a pussy, and yes I would care if Louie Simmons went around talking shit and never did shit about shit, but he gets it done. Eminem talks mad shit on a record and has never done shit to anyone ever “Studio Gangster”. He cant do shit because he is a pussy, Louie Simmons proves everyday he isnt a pussy, Eminem just talks more shit…Big Martin

Dustin,

You say you are the only one getting shit for saying you don’t like it. Well, you prefaced the statement of “No, I do not listen to rap” with other questions/knocks on rap and hip hop. This is why you get flamed.

So you listen to country? Dude, you’re a fucking redneck. Go sing in the corner while practicing your twang and pulling up your cowboy boots at the same time.

See what stereotypes do? They’re not all true. Same goes for rap and hiphop.

just cause you dated some chickenhead who was bumpin ja rule doesnt mean you were listenin to rap. look up the folks i mentioned [on top of the people others say] and give them an honest listen, than you can say whatever you want. but you cant listen to POP and make an opinion about RAP.

White Flash-

"just cause you dated some chickenhead who was bumpin ja rule doesnt mean you were listenin to rap."

Actually she was big 2Pac fan. Since you don't know me, why don't you keep your comments to yourself, Pahtna.

Keep it real, dogg.

Dustin

dustin,

Don’t even try to sound ghetto, cuz it comes across as a rich white boy trying to fit in. Seriously, it’s potna, not pahtna, and don’t ever say dogg again. Those are slang terms for the people familiar with rap and hiphop. Since you dislike these, you need to refrain from doing so. Use a twang. It will probably fit you better, Dustbowl.

West coast is cleary superior…first you have the excellent beats and basslines. East coast rap beats are garbage.

Then East coast rappers talk about absolutely nothing. It might rhyme and sound good but I like to have something to relate to or at least a story or a ballad or something ( like the west coast offers)

East coasters talk about usually nothing that they habve never experienced or isn’t even real.

JWright,

I was being sarcastic. The "keep it real" phrase is pretty cheesy so I thought others would be able to see the sarcasm. I guess I gave you too much credit. Although, "keep it real, dogg" isn't near as lame as "Dustbowl".

*Writes down in notepad* p-o-t-n-a

Lata, Playa. Word! *Flashes gang sign*

Dustin

Actually, I called you dustbowl partly because of your name and partly because of the area of the country associated with the dustbowl and their like of country music. I guess I didn’t give you enough credit either.

JWright,

I'm from the Tulsa area. The Dustbowl occurred in the area of Western Oklahoma, Southwestern Kansas and the pan-handle of Texas. So haha, the jokes on you. :)

*Redneck, backwoods voice* My daddy calls me dirt though.

How do we go from arguing about hip-hop to the Dustbowl?

Dustin
