Ranzo Training log

Ok so I suffer from not being able to remember what the fuck I do from one day to the next. Haven’t been doing a lot of real training lately. We are moving the school and have been working on tearing all the mats, bags etc. out , moving to the new location and reassembling. good news is that we will have our cage setup inside the facility to train our MMA team in. This is a huge step in advancing the school and our fighters. Regular classes start up tonight.

In other news I am fighting again on Aug. 9th…what the hell am I doing LOL I need retribution! and I am helping my buddy out who needs a good show. Fighting at 170 this time so I will have to cut 15 pounds or so. I can promise you that I am going to run through this guy like a box of ex lax. Im getting pissed off right now as a matter of fact. Plan on spending lots of time sparring with the clock so I can get a super idea of time and how explosive and volatile and can be on this mother fucker in 3 min rounds.

In the past we do longer rounds for building cardio etc. but this time I am really focusing on how many fucking puches kicks and sheer ass beating I can deliver in the specified time, no farting around.

Since the school has been a mess I have been lifting right on schedule and doing shadow boxing as well as running. Now starts the grind until fight night with the exception of a week in florida where I will probably get sunburned and tired…

Back on the mats last night. The place is a wreck but we do have the main training mat down. did lots of warmup. I been out of the school for about a week so it felt like I should spend time getting in the groove.

shadow boxing 3 rounds. focused on deliberate correct punches and good footwork.

Agility Drills.

Partnered up with another young guy to help him with his striking, he wanted help with footwork but it turned into lots of other things. Long story short.
Went to some light sparring and working on useful combos and the footwork needed to deliver the punches. I feel like the meat and potatoes of fighting is seeing the opportunities to land a strike and creating those opportunities. Without good movement and footwork you will never be in that position. So I was on my soapbox for a little while…

Ended the night with some hard sparring with a coupole other guys. Got a chance to work on my new focus with standing clinch and ground. It felt good

Man im just laying low. Too lazy and time constrained to type out things in the log right now. I do have a fight, this Friday night actually.

I just got back from a week vacation in Florida and with my work schedule can’t train the way I want to. I also have to cut a good amount of weight and I am starving as I type this. Got in some good sparring this week. l feel great actually about this fight. I have only gotten better and there will not be a decision in this fight. If for some strange reason it goes the distance it will be a landslide in my favor. I have ever intention of trying to kill this MFer because I am tired and angry and want to go back to the good life of sipping the kool aid for a bit.

Working lots and lots of cardio the next few days so I can get to 170…oh how I like 185 better! ! I will probably sit in a hot ass bath for several hours at one point which will make me really want to kill this bastard more.

so that is It in a nutshell. There is a ton of things going on besides this fight and life has really caught up to me at this point and I am just enjoying the roller coaster. That being said sometime next week after the fight I will probably start to get bored again and start bitching about that too…hehehe

Thanks for the concern guys. That is motivation to continue my log. I weighed 181.1 this morning Got three more days to drop the weight. The cut is actually going well but I am afraid that I will balloon a bit around weigh in day. My body typically likes to go up in weight for a day or two and then start a rapid drop. Hopefully that will not be the case. My carbs are way low, sodium intake is very reduced as well as overall calories.

I have heard that this guy has been talking shit, he actually messaged me via FB and said the matchmaker wants us to have a feud. Now I am a professional shit talker and am nasty at it but I do not talk shit about fighting for whatever reason so I have decided to just right the word shit on both gloves so when we get in the cage I will let my hands do the talking. I really hope for his sake he has a solid chin because he is gonna get it tested on Friday. I feel my cardio is great and I have learned how to cut so I have not really lost any power or strength. My only problem is I am old and truthfully I just cannot do this for as long and as hard as I could have a few years ago. I can be a total badass for three rounds though and that is all I need then I can puss around for a week I guess.

Back to they gym tonight for 4-5 hours of training working on my staple combos and techniques with lots of cardio. Thanks again for the support I have learned a lot from this sight and everyone in here.

Back in the gym last night. Did some great work, some gampeplanning and working combinations for counters and attacks.

Jump Rope two 5 min. rounds
Shadow boxing three, 3 min. rounds
Stretching 5 minutes.

Thai pad work, Full power Numerous combos until I started to gas a bit then came back and did it again. Trying to be able to hit full power with every shot for two full rounds. That is the goal anyway.

5 min. break rehydrated a bit

Padded up and went into sparring. Real nice session of about 6-7 rounds at 3 minutes. Rotated Partners 2 times. Every other rest period worked light combos and speed drills on focus mitts as well as defenses.

5-10 minute break

back to thai pads for combos with kicks and punches worked on clearing guard and defenses to open shots, level changes, drop steps etc.

Went right into grappling starting in the clinch for a few rounds and then from the knees(which I hate) had some successful submissions and worked on maintaining position for GNP. Really pushed my conditiong at this point and was tired and dehydrated I think. Made it home about 10 and showered hit the bed. Woke up this morning weighing 180 pounds even. 3 days and 9 pounds. Wed and Thurs. are going to suck.

I am really surprised the amount of training I did with the amount of calories I took in. I still feel pretty good today considering. My wrists hurt and I have some sore muscles but that is about it. Come on Friday and get this job done!!

First point:
If you chin check him and he takes it; than make him take it again. If his plan to face you hinges on “durability” than he should be formally invited to start the war of attrition. His body will get “tired” of being hurt before you get tired of hurting him.

Point the second:
Nothing wrong with damaging other things as well. If you put him on queer street, or even if you don’t, than is a great time to go downstairs. A wobbly guy can’t tighten up, brace, or block body shots or check leg kicks any better than he can head shots. Jaw, nose, solar plexus, liver should make no difference to you. If he wants to cover up so that he can keep running his cock holster to hype his next fight that is fine. Cave his ribs in.

There are two tried and true methods for “old” fighters to stay “dangerous”. I am sure you have seen both of these work plenty of times. If you are honest you have probably had them work on you and for you.

Method 1:
Make the other guy do more work than you, to accomplish less.

In MMA Randy Couture is a great example of this, because he basically smothered and ground on guys for the whole fight. He made them have to constantly be “on” so that even younger fighters ground down and got winded. A lot of BJJ guys are fantastic at this. They accomplish a lot with posture/technique and force the other guy to burn energy to stay even. Then they can sub or improve position when the other guy is wheezing.

In boxing/striking fighters that make the other guy take more steps and miss more often sort of do the same thing. They are always in position and force the other guy to do more work to get off. The effect is that they make their opponent do 1 and a half rounds worth of work to their one.

Basically, they make every second take more out of the other guy than it does them.

Method 2:
Return on Investment or sell your energy/life dearly

These guys hurt you. They don’t just burn energy, they accomplish things for that energy. They damage with shots, they fuck up your breathing when they grab you. The idea here is that while they may get tired, the other guy is hurt/put in a poor position to take advantage.

Also, pain/injury is scary and tiring.

Boxers who have a good stiff jab can all fit in here. They may be active and throwing punches, but very few fighters can effectively “wear someone down” through two swollen eyes and one nostril.

Grapplers who make dominant position punishing fit here. Grinding an elbow or forearm into someone’s throat/eye socket/nose/below their clavicle can do wonders for making them stop thinking and start focusing on the pain. Then you can REALLY start to attack.

These are basically the same thing.

You wrote you are old. Fine. Embrace it. You don’t need to have one more “fight”. Winning interests you.

At this point you know what your best techniques are.

You know how to apply them.

It isn’t just about “setting the pace” or “not gassing”. It is about doing something for A RESULT.

You have spent hundreds of hours learning what results you want.

You have spent thousands of hours developing the techniques to get those results.

You have spent years of your life cultivating the discipline to calmly, practically, and proficiently accomplish your goals.

You are going to hurt this man. He only gets to pick how.

He wants to talk trash and Facebook because it is fun. It won’t be fun when the fight starts. No like button is going to save him when he is feeling his own blood run down his throat. Hype won’t buy him one extra breath in the cage.

If he wants to “stand and bang” than you create angles and make him your heavy bag. “Banging” is for young men. You are just going to hurt him. If he lands on you, you are in position to hit him back. WHEN he misses, you are still going to hit him back.

If you go to the ground you have spent hours honing skills at something you don’t even like. You will make him work, and then make him pay for working wrong. Underneath him you can sweep him, submit him, or just squirt out from under him. You are way, WAY too experienced to go chasing a submission that isn’t working. You know how to improve your position. On top, you can sure as hell make him more miserable than you. You can make him beg for you to take an arm or his neck. You put in the work, not because you liked it. You put in the work because that is what you do.

He is going to be facing a skillset that you developed OVER years, and the kind commitment to succeed that can only be developed by years of triumphs and disappointments alike. I hope he has a hell of a lot of fun on face book because you are going to teach him that he shoulda stuck with Farmville.

I weighed 173 and change this morning but I have no idea how I am going to loose those 3 pounds sitting here at work. I have no fucking energy and I am hungry and dehydrated. Lord get me through this day!!! I am sipping water slowly because this fucking sucks. I have never had a cut this bad except maybe my first one when I was stupid.

I Need it lol. Good lord. Im leaving work in an hour. I am too cranky to deal with people. Then I will go to the sauna for a last round of sweating before the weight ins. If you are sitting in A/C than you may have already lost some weight. The dry air pulls the moisture right out of you.

If you are not in A/C sweat obviously does the same thing.

Do you weigh in tonight or day of the fight?

In any event here is a dirty, not medically approved, method to cut a few pounds.

Get a bag/bulk pack of Juicy Fruit gum. Get a paper cup and shove some paper towels in it(make a spit cup. You are in TN, you should know how to do this.) Chew the gum and spit. It will pull the water out of you like you won’t believe. Sugarless Juicy Fruit is ok, but sugar works just as well. You don’t have to chew the gum constantly or vigorously. Just let it promote saliva, then spit.

DO NOT

Use mint or Big Red gum. That “feels” dry and is not as much fun. You want something sweet.

DO NOT

Chomp on the gum if you have TMJ issues. The goal isn’t to get a sore jaw.

Do NOT

Spill the spit cup.

Do NOT

Be afraid to switch the old piece for a new piece. Once the flavor goes it doesn’t matter when you switch. Rinsing your mouth out and spitting isn’t a mistake either if you are using sugared gum, cavities suck.

If you are feeling really dried out and miserable vaseline on you lips can both keep you from chewing a hole in them, and keep them from cracking.

You are not going to let the scale beat you.

It is already 1:30.

Think of how much you are going to make it suck for HIM.

Think about putting your forearm over his mouth when you have already broken his nose and making him puff up his eyes trying to breath.

Think about grinding an elbow or forearm into a cut, or right below his collar bone and feeling him tighten up, instead of relaxing and getting up on a hip like you would have.

Think about snapping his head back with a jab when he tries to step in, then angling and hitting him.

Think about those things, because those things still require doing.

The weight is fucking handled.

You put your mind to it, it is done.

Think of your best moves and how they flow together. Think about how carrying his hands high and covering your jab exposes his thigh. Think about how charging forward lets you step out and angle. Think about what you CAN do. Realize he isn’t going to stop all of it. If he moves left, he moved wrong. If he steps right, he moved wrong. Every move he makes is going to be “wrong”. He losses, he just gets to pick how.

And really, do the gum thing.

Left work, went home and slept for 30min. I was so freaking tired!! then got in the Sauna at a local gym and cut those last few pounds. Weighed in at 170.6 lbs… then I drank a whole bottle of orange pediayalite and then a about 32 ounces of water, Fuck yes.

However the drama never ceases. Dumbass opponent did not have bloodwork, couldn’t make the weigh ins. So instead of MMA we were to do Kickboxing using headgear and shinguards. I agreed because that is my bread and butter anyway. Im going to murder this dude ahhahahahahaha hell yeah. Even though wearing pads is gay as Liberace I was still ready to fight. Now my opponent lives about 2.5 hours away and said he would weigh in Friday night before the fight, even though he could have done a video weigh in. Then he starts asking for travel money and hotel expenses. The promotion said no and he said fuck it I don’t want to fight then, make it worth my while. Next he requested that I weigh in the day of the fight at 170 because he don’t want to fight a 190lb dude LOL LOL WTF!!
So basically dude has backed out in a most pussified way. He is back and forth about if he is actually coming or not so nobody knows for sure.

I got on his FB since he had messaged me before about “hyping” the fight etc… I told him what I thought, got no response and he actually deleted the post from his timeline…what a fucking fag. I found some more good places to make nice statements to him, maybe he will get pissed and want to fight me I dunno but I am thoroughly pissed about all this and I hope his retarded ass shows up tonight, he is gonna get a beating never before seen.

If you are still going to the promotion, keep your mind in the game. If he shows, than fight.

However, I am going to state the promotion has let you down. Not the other way. You don’t owe anyone else any fucking favors. If the promotion asks for you to “step up” and fight someone else you sure as shit do not need to do it. You absolutely do not need to move up a weight class or take on someone who is 20-0 to “help out”. You have done what you are supposed to.
