Special session for us MMA guys with a wrestling coach. We had several fighters from the area come in even a Pro fighter. Spent almost the whole time working on defending and reversing differnt takedowns when backed against the cage or a wall. Simply amazing training with a bunch of tough guys and a couple girls.
Spent a good while sharing some techniques and ideas as well as wrestling and doing jiu jitsu. It was really great to work with other FIGHTERS and not just people who “take jiu jitsu” or whatever. Everything was very intense. I have some swelling in my ears and it was hard to sleep because there was no good place to put my head that night.
I am not sure if I could even put into words all the things I learned and developed in 2.5 hours just working legitimately with everyone. Great night of learning and some schooling haha.
Heard this going to work the other day…LOL Reminded me of all those chicks who ball up together and dance on each other acting like they don’t want a man. Also reminded me of all the fat chicks who run out of the corners when they play “my dougie” or any of those other line dance bs like cupid shuffle or whatever. Soon as the song is over the wobble back into the darkness.
We’re helping a guy put together a show in Jonesboro June 8, holler if you’re interested. But I’ll warn you ahead of time that I’ll be the referee and I’ve already taken a point from you just in case.
OK it is time to make a change. I am going to combine the days on my 5/3/1. That way I only have to lift two days a week. I cannot possibly keep trying to squeeze a lift in the way my life is.
Anybody have pros and cons of this? My training at the gym has been altered due to teaching now and we have added some programs that i want to take advantage of. I am thinking I can do a couple hours on Tuesdays and Friday or Saturday and stay on track with the 5/3/1. I keep missing days and getting behind on it.

Try this:
Squat 531
Bench 531
weighted pull ups
Deadlifts 531
OHP 531
3-5x max pull ups
I’ve tried this, it works fairly well. The downside is that you need to apply more intensity to every set&rep and that it’s harder to maintain the groove. If you’ve ever run 5x5 you know what I mean. Squats start to feel so natural. It’s harder to maintain this with less frequency but it works.
Alternatively, you could give this one a try (maybe modify the assistance work as needed)

FighinIrish’s log is basically all 5/3/1 at 2 days a week. I know there is a lot there, but it might be worth it to comb over and ask him any questions. I’m sure he would be willing to help.
Towards the back of his log I also wrote up a warm up/cool down protocol to try to keep from getting to banged up when doing the whole weights plus combat sports things. I don’t know if the training split I suggested would matter much to you, it was written for his injury profile.

EDTA: I can cross post it, but I don’t know how uncluttered you want your training log.
I usually peek at Irish’s log a couple times a week. He has a good model for a log. I did combine two days of my 5/3/1 on Tuesday. It took a lot longer obviously, but was not so difficult to get through. For now I am thinking Tues. and Fri. would be lifting and Saturday if I need a alternate day.
Monday, Wed, Thurs will be Training as usual. I can tell that I am pretty tired towards the end of the week. I have tried leaving the school as early as possible to get home get things done and in bed so I can get up and go to work the next day.
Been changing my workouts a bit. Working lates this week so I have more time to play with the weights. Working twice a week. Finding it better to do OHpress and Squats on the same day. Then doing Bench and Deads on the same day. Modifiying my accessory work for more focused movements instead of doing the big but boring routine.
I like this much better I have to say. If I can get a hour and half in the gym I can get it all done and get back to my life. Spending more days training now than I have been in the recent past so I need the time off to recover.
I have some good momentum in training right now. Working standard stuff more and more and adding some tweaks into the game with an emphasis on new combos and working them into sparring. Debating on what to acutally put in this log. This is too public to post specifics for right now.
Latest entry to log… Skipped Royce Gracie seminar, over it. Still lifting and getting stronger I like how I feel on the ground when I am strong. Wrestling practice tonight.

So my “sell Ranzo’s training log to His Opponents” plan for financial success is hitting a roadblock?
Damn it.
Chapter 1 in the manual was titled “How to Warm up to beat Ranzo: Don’t break your fucking foot”.

LOL nice, nice. There is a great chance I will be fighting in June. I am at a point in life where I really don’t care. If a fight comes up I will take it but I am not beating down doors to get one. The prospect of cutting weight and the stress of focusing on that one day really is a friggin drag. I love to train and I love to fight but sometimes I just can’t get the down and dirty fighting I want all the time in the gym so that leaves me wanting to fight in the cage.
At the same time If I do fight someone I really don’t want them coming in here and seeing what it is I am working on. I feel like just typing out the noral BS does nobody any good.
I will say that I have been doing more wrestling now and I love how it ties into jiu jitsu and how it gives me options to strike or go to the ground. What I really need is a good sparring partner at 170 to 185 lbs who can push me to the next level…
Great training last night. I really pushed myself through everything. I love nights like this in the gym.
For whatever reason none of the normal people showed up for classes…fucking awesome! No losers, no questions no shitty partners and no boredom dealing with the mundane. Every person in there is serious about what they are doing.
great warm up doing shadow boxing and working different combos. 2 sets of weighted pull ups. 2 rounds of light bag work and some stretching.
From there right into sparring anything goes. One 5 minute round and I was gassing…WTF Took a break for 2 minutes and my heart rate was still higher than I wanted. Got back out there and did another round full on ended up working clinch against the cage which let me use some wrestling to take the guy down and work him pretty good. That session felt great but I was still pretty tired for some reason. Everything I have been working on seemed to flow pretty well and I had the awareness to use the techniques I have been drilling. From there I got to work some jiu jitsu. Rolled several times trying to work particular submissions. Im to a point where I can defend very well and I can hold position great but need to work on setting up submissions. So far I have been mainly focused on using position to beat the other guys face or body in which I love but im trying to be more dangerous on the ground.
Worked with one of our top guys for a long time and found out I still suck. God I hate sucking at something!! Also felt like I could use some pad work and did 3 rounds on focus mits working Jabs and a new combo I have been working. I was pretty toasted after training. Felt real good to work solid 3 hours.

Some famous dude (I forget his name) once said “To be good at something, you just have to be willing to suck until you’re good.”
I’ve (supposedly) got a couple fights coming up at 185 and we’ve got a guy fighting for the V3 title at 170 in June, come get some work in brother[/quote]
Yes sir. I just have to make the time to get over that way.
