I don’t like that idea. This is a lot more like a “community” than youtube is (and I don’t know what the fuck those other sites were but I’m assuming their similar) and that means that there’s a lot of consistent hating on people. I think that the “like/dislike” feature would come down to more who’s posting it rather than what’s being posted.
As I recall this came up some years ago and was decided against.
However most of the old guys have left this site, so maybe the newer, younger, more mainstream type that inhabits this place now will be all over the “LeTz maKe It LiiKe FacEbook lolzzz” idea than some of the veterans from here.

how many times have you seen someone quote another persons post that like 5 paragraphs long, then at the bottom they write…
“X2”
the like/dislike system would create a little more EFFICIENCY, and make it so that the only posts are ones where people are actually saying something
x2
But seriously, if there was a dislike button, I would have pressed it. Facebook sucks dick.

I like the idea. My only problem is that my posts will receive so many likes it will overrun T-Nation’s servers and the site will explode through the internets.
If I can use Reddit as an example, if there was a voting system in place then any sort of pun, joke, or otherwise witty comment will get a massive surge of ‘likes’ or ‘votes’, which will then in turn cause 1000 new members to try and make a witty comment to try and enlarge their e-peen.
It works on that site since the downvoted (or disliked) comments are pushed to the bottom of the thread and then made invisible, but it would do nothing here as the thread order is chronological, not vote based.
A voting system would take away from the community aspect as fightinirish said, and make this website even more hierarchical than it is right now. Although it would be fun to see Prof X make a single post and within 10 minutes have 50 likes and 40 dislikes just due to his name
Putting it on the Articles is a great idea, however in the Forums would take away from the community. Lifting weights is not easy and we all do it just fine so why change what is working here.
I would like a like/dislike for posts. Sometimes I LOL at posts but am too lazy to give the poster an atta boy. I also sometimes read posts where I want to punch the poster in the liver but am too lazy to post a reply with my e-rage. A dislike would do in that instance.
This would also be useful for parody threads. Rather than prohibiting them completely the mods can make a rule that if it gets a certain number of dislikes, it gets deleted. (Yes, I am still bitter about the parody thread ordeal.)
