If by stewards you mean entitled arseholes, then hell yes!
What’s the old saying, the first generation makes the fortune, the second enjoys it, the third loses it?
Thing is though the old money in Europe is so entrenched its almost impossible to squander the family fortune. There’s a concept here of leasehold vs freehold, when I first moved here I could not believe this actually is a thing.
When you buy an apartment in the UK, you have to check if its leasehold or freehold. If you buy leasehold, it means you (or the body corporate of your apartment building) don’t own the land on which its built. So you pay ground rent - forever!
So there are these families who own the ground that apartment blocks are built on who collect rental income on it… forever! These are the Dukes and whatnot, inherited life peerages. PLUS they get a hereditary seat in the House of Lords (guess that’s roughly equivalent to an unelected US Senate) so they get to vote on laws, plus they get paid £800 a day just for attending parliament…
Those guys cannot not be ugly rich no matter what they do, and back to my main gripe, they pay incredibly low rates of tax so effectively they’re just parasites in society collecting rent, contributing zero, and perpetually trying to say there’s no money to build roads or for better education or whatever because of “benefit scroungers”!
I’m actually make this same argument. The waste is through corruption, thus my statement here:
I don’t have any disagreement here. As you know, it’s done by taking zero to no salary and having comp tied to unrealized gains of equity. My point of asking about top 6, is I don’t know of any system that would remove that. I do know of systems that extend the bell curve of ‘rich’ to include more.
US has maintained this as of recently. My own belief is it’s due to the independent culture we have here. Where family unit is looked at as immediate vs. other cultures where family name means more.
None of your business and has no bearing on conversation.
None. I even paid for my own college.
What the fuck is your problem. Don’t drag my kids into this. The cost of keeping them safe has cost me over $200k.
My line for what is fair to call fair is different than yours. Let’s just end it there.
Sorry who has denied this?
Triggered? I very calmly stated my opinion. You dragged my family into it. I can also take low blows. We’ve had decent conversations in past, you’ve crossed a line.
Sorry to rant on about this, but hey it’s my radical position!
If you have 100,000 benefit cheats in the UK and they’re getting £20,000 a year each, that’s £2-billion a year.
If you have one man (I’m just picking on Bezos here because I can see the numbers) whose company makes a turnover of £24-billion, which Amazon UK does, and he pays tax of, say 15% of that turnover, then… well, you see how this plays out.
Wasn’t it capitalism that allowed a regular guys like Bezos and Gates to leapfrog all the old money jerks and climb to new, radiant heights of richness?
No, you are wrong. It has everything to do with this conversation. The fact that you don’t understand this shows your inability to understand the disparities in America.
How did you do that? Working jobs that you got because of your race and class?
Congrats - I paid for my undergrad too. And my teaching credential. And My MA. And my MFA.
Because I was blessed with being in the right class.
No joke: I’ve had a youtube channel since 2006. I’ve uploaded every powerlifting meet, strongman competition, grappling comp and PR I’ve ever acheived on there.
Know what has the most views?
A 35 minutes video of me eating a 5lb cheeseburger. And by a HUGE margin. I missed my calling.
