I hit 170kg / 375lb a few weeks ago so should be good for 400 soon. Switched to high bar squat, which seems to be better for my build (6 foot; short legs, long torso)
In my experience, most lifters with short legs do better with a high-bar position in an otherwise standard PL-stanced squat. I’m pretty short (5’6") but also have very short legs for my frame (28" inseam) and cannot, for the life of me, perform a low-bar squat.
Interesting to know other lifters have had the same experience. I think with a longer torso, the more upright back angle of a high bar position makes me less likely to fail due to collapsing forward - previously an issue for me.
I was having trouble finding depth with the high bar squat for the first few sessions but seem to have it under control now. And yeah, as you said - more or less a powerlifting style squat but with a high bar position.
Not sure I belong here yet, but I’ve hit 120kg for 8 with 2-3 in the tank (puts me at around 150kg), and 130kg for an easy double. Setting 140kg as my max for next cycle, and I’ll hit an easy double with that in 6 weeks time.
Hit 380x2 and 355x4 recently. Could have got 355x5 but my upper back got loose so I just racked it. Going to go for the big 4 plates soon! Btw, bodyweight of 160lbs right here.

Probably a good indicator of the ratio of people who can squat 300 vs 400
Maybe, but most people in this thread haven’t hit 400 yet… it’s more like squatting 200s vs. 300s (even sadder).
I don’t think I’ll feel strong until I hit a 4 plate squat. Now that it’s only 40lbs away it’s starting to become a more tangible thing.
The stronger I get, the stronger I feel I need to be.
I never really think “well now I’m strong” It’s easy to stay humble when there are people out there lifting double your bench, squat and dead.
I was like MAN IF I COULD ONLY SQUAT 315 WOW, then that went to 405, now that I’m over that I’m looking at 500 like it’s the strongest squat ever. Once I get there, I’ll be looking higher.
I don’t know when I’ll feel strong. Hopefully never, it’s motivating.
a few years ago i back squatted 418 with a huge bounce at the bottom and a super whippy bar. since then i tore my patella tendon and finally feel 100% recovered. my current best is 350 for a double, but i feel like i can improve pretty good since before the 350 for 2, the heaviest i have had on my back for at least 6 months was 300 and just going for more reps, or different tempos, or 1 1/4 reps etc…
going to do my first all out 1rm in over a year in about 2.5 weeks. I think i have a chance at the 405!

There needs to be a 500 squat/dl thread. I would totally join.

Im also in. I have a apa meet on march 16. hoping i will hit it there but i have been haveing some issues latley with good depth. Lifting partners say im good and I i know what they are talkin about ( one is sponsored by titan, one won her div. in APF world and the other hold 2 american records) I moved from hi bar becausei would fold over if i went deep to low bar. last meet i hit 360 so will see.
My squat is the crappest of my lifts. Im jumping back on 5/3/1 for it to bring it up. I managed a double at 315 a fortnight ago, but it doesnt seem to be moving up any time soon.
It sucks being the strongest person in the gym. I can’t go to anyone for advice on form, weaknesses etc when I’m there. Especially when I’m not a strong bloke. Being on an Army base (albeit aviation) you’d think there would be some strong SOBs around.
Sure I can post on here, which I like, but it isn’t the same
