Race Question

Why do any of you(outside of 460 and Ct.Rockula) care about Black issues?
Social issues concern me and in some way effect me, no matter what group of people

so white people mostly don’t think of you as black? what do they think of you (i mean, what occurs to them when they first see you)?

who knows what they mean by saying ‘you aren’t black’. they probably don’t mean any harm by it, but it might be (or might not be) expressing some attitude that you are finding problematic (e.g., about what it is to be a black person).

maybe they just mean that your skin is lighter than they are accustomed to black peoples skin color being. dunno. maybe they are just winding you up…

no, they always know im atleast half black, but it offends them that i identify more with being black than white, which neither of my parents are anyway except for my moms great grandfather.

i find it to be condescending and defensive when people say it, because when i tell them im not half white i can tell they feel stupid for saying what they did but usually stick to their guns and begin saying hurtful ignorant things about my personality or character.

ive personally never felt insecure about it, it is just annoying how people dont understand if youre light skinned and black you arent always half white, look at charles barkley, derek fisher, sebastian telfair, chris brown, etc.

if you have ever felt

that if you lost your job, got hurt at work
or your car was punched beyond repair
then you had better keep it to yourself
until you figured it out on your own

because no one
and i mean no one at all
ever made your problems their problems

and the moment you ceased being a strong back
and an upbeat comic distraction
your charm reached its expiration date

you might be Black

You are what you do and don’t do. What you say and don’t say.

I feel the same way.

LOL at black identity. Talk about prolonging stereotypes.

Educated, well spoken, respectably accomplished blacks aren’t black according to blacks?

Jesus H.

Whitey is not the equality problem.

If you choose to be an undermotivated piece of shit to fit a group identity, your failure at life is on you, regardless of race.

Otherwise, haters gonna hate! Fuck 'em.
i never said acclompished blacks arent considered blacks by their own people, it is when someone separates themselves from their heritage in hopes of success or once they become successful that they are looked down upon. which is totally rational and easy to understand.
Help me understand how it is rational to look down on some one who becomes successful. People should be looking up imstead, although I was mostly commenting to other posts in the thread.

And explain “separating from heritage”, mostly by defining the heritage values left behind in place of success.

What is “black” anyways?

I know Tupac says the darker the berry the sweeter the juice…

Most blacks in America are mixed race. What shade is the cut off or does having any African blood make one black?

50% black = black? Or would it be 50% African American = Black?

Does this tie in to Yella Bones and Red Bones as discussed previously?

Also, should I be calling myself Icelandic/Finnish/German/Scottish American?

Or just American?

Or White American?

Or Texan American? White Texan American?

Or just my name?

Subjective definitions are weird.

NO, Tupac says “Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice”. Get it right.

I have not read all the replies but, I have never heard a white person say that a person is not really black because they are light skinned. However, being Latino and having grown up in Watts and East LA. I will say that the only people that I have heard talk shit are darker blacks and latinos.

They would always go on about how I was white not really “Latino” and I would have light skinned black friends be told that they were not really black or that they thought they were better than everyone else.

It basically comes down to society wanting to label everyone so they know how to treat them or what to expect from them. When people don’t adhere to stereotypes society has a tenancy to be astonished.

“Damn, that white boy can dance.”

“Damn, that black dude sure is an articulate speaker.”

“Damn, that becky got a fat ass she must be one of them Italians.”

ect…

does it bother anyone when light skinned or mixed african americans call themselves black?

in my experience other blacks have no problem with it, it is most commonly a problem with white people.

obviously in terms of skin tone they may not be ‘black’ but in terms of heritage they are african.

ive had several people, especially white girls, tell me im ‘not black’ and i always find it disturbing that they feel the need to express this opinion, and it is usually mean spirited like an attempt to hurt me.

im not half white and if anything behind african im predominately native american.

i have obvious theories on why this is an issue with people, but since i cant really observe it from an outside perspective i wanted to find out why this bothers some people so much.
Are you really part Indian or are you doing the trendy thing that is largely bullshit?
If you are indeed predominately Indian, why do you call yourself black?

Who is that in your avatar awesomeguy1234

The racist South used to have a “one drop rule”. If you had “one drop” of “black blood” in you, you were considered black.

I think you’ve got that one mixed up there. Of course since you’re a troll, it’s probably a horrible idea for me to point that out to you.

It was a typo.

So that was yesterday… those people are dead.

Will some one please qualify black heritage and the notion that success is bad?
