… and using a transcript of Lebron James’ “The Decision” to guide me
o I recently got a job that I’ll have to work half as many hours for, but will pay me almost the same thing. Seeing as I’m in grad school, this is a very good thing. Now over the last year I’ve worked over 40 hours/week AND been going to school full-time, but this job is just wearing on me. I have seen some of the shadiest unethical, probably illegal, things in my 18 months there.
So I decided I’m m going to use a transcript of The Decision as a template for quitting. I don’t need this place for a reference any more, and honestly I would never want to work at a place that’s as unethical and shady as where I am now, so I’m not worried about repercussions.
Here’s how it turned out:
As you know, this autumn I will be in grad school full-time once again, along with having an internship. Earlier this summer I began the process of deciphering what job would be the best fit to go with this schedule. The process has been everything I thought it would be and more. I was in a position to have the opportunity to hear from many different companies, and figure out what was the best possible situation for me.
I’ve taken a lot of advice from my friends, family, and a lot of people that I look towards in a time of need or for advice, and they told me you ultimately have to live with your decision that you’re going to make, and you have to do what’s best for you, your family, and for you to ultimately be happy.
The one thing my mother told me when I was going through this process and what ultimately helped me make my decision is you have to do what’s best for you and what’s going to make you happy at the end of the day, because no one can live with the consequences or anything that comes with your decision besides you. Certain parts of the process I can’t control, but I expected to be able to go through this process and be able to sit down with my family and talk about the best possible situation for me.
Ultimately the decision boiled down to having to put myself in the right position to be able to accomplish the goals I have set out for myself. Therefore this fall I will be taking my talents to Chestnut Hill and the BC Eagles. This choice was very heartfelt for me. The eighteen months plus I have given to [Company Name] were everything to me. I never wanted to leave [Company Name], and my heart will always be with the consumers in the program.
I do not see it as leaving [Company Name] so much as joining forces with an organization that I respect greatly in BC. This decision is a very emotional one for me. I know it will be emotional for [Company Name] as well. If it was a perfect world, I would have loved to stay, because I’ve done so many great things for [Company Name], and they’ve done so many great things for me. It was a tough decision, because of how loyal I am, and I do not like to feel like I’ve let people down.
