So today I’m giving my notice (2wk) to my boss before I leave for the day. I dont have another job lined up; but I have two interviews, both of which look promising.
I’m doing this before I have another job mainly because I can see that they are activley looking to replace me; and I want to be the proactive one.
I have good reasons for doing what I’m doing, but I’d rather not go into detail online.
This company that I work for is a small one, 6 people plus our install crew. One dude left today, and my boss is freaking about all sorts of things.
Why the hell am I writing this? I need to be uplifted! I use this site for everything yaknow? Give me your stories if you’ve done this…or anything really…I’m freakin’ out.
Usually I’d recommend you have something lined up first, but it’s better to be professional about leaving, putting in your two weeks notice, than let bullshit pile up till it gets to that “Fuck you I quit!” stage.
i gave him my notice last night, scared the crap out of him. he really wants me to stay; so i told him that the 2 week notice will stand and in two weeks i will re-evaluate where i stand.
he basically has 2 weeks to prove to me that he wants me there. lots has to change; and if in my upcoming interviews they offer more money…im out.
Dude I spent eleven months in a job I enjoyed with a boss I could not stand. At about month six I knew it was not going to last. I was a bear every evening I came home and my wife did not enjoy it as much I did not enjoy it. As soon as I realized it was the wrong job we saved every penny we could and cut expenses. I am in month three right now of a long hiring process. But since I knew ahead of time it has been ok financially. The wrong boss/coworkers can make it miserable. You are better off finding a new place to work. IMO
If you hate it you hate it, no reason to stay. In my experience they may say they’ll change or do what ever for you and that may happen for a bit but eventually you’ll be in the same position you’re in now. Get out now while you can, best of luck.
If they promise you anything to get you to stay, get it in writing. Not later, but when they offer it to you. If they say they will type it up later, say “Fine, but I will take it handwritten right now.”
I have changed jobs and states several times. Scary, but usually worth it.
