Quinoa and Oats Questions

is it ok to microwave oats and quinoa?
how do you microwave quinoa if the above answer is yes?
can you eat either of them raw?

Why microwave it? Just pour boiling water over them and let it sit for a while.

Sometimes I don’t have time to wait around for water to boil and do the whole sit and wait. So I microwave my oats all the time. Trick is to add just enough water to where it’s level with the amount of oats.(90 to 130 seconds on hi should do the trick depending on how strong your micro is, learned this from a big mofo at the gym:D)

As for quinoa I don’t know. I think that would be better with boiled water IMO.

I have yet to make Quinoa in the microwave and not end up having to scrub the hell out of my microwave afterward. Just suck it up and make it on a stove top.

I nuke my oats a little less than what the box recommends, that way it stays in the bowl (or use a bigger bowl and a little more water), and it’s a little chewier, which I like.

Can I just eat quinoa w/o cooking it? like throw it in a yogurt and go to town…

cause If I dont have to cook it I would rather not spend 15 min cooking quinoa on a stove when I can just put oats in the Mwave for 5 min and chow down.

Dude, you can eat anything w/o cooking it. People throw raw oats in their shakes all the time, Quinoa should be no different (you stomach is essentially a vat of acid)

I’m not sure; Quinoa is a seed with what seems to be a rather tough exterior. Even after cooking it, it’s pretty grainy. It’s different than cooking oats because the oats will release their starch into the water. Quinoa just doesn’t seem to do that.

I doubt there’s anything wrong with eating raw quinoa, but in terms of nutrient absorption, I imagine cooking it is way beyond being the better option.

I love quinoa! I have never thought about putting it in the microwave.
