Questions About Acidity

Recently I read in Waterbury’s ‘Muscle Revolution’ and in Berardi’s ‘Precision Nutrition strategies for success’ article about the problems of acidity. Other than eating more fruits and veggis and taking my Greens+, what other strategies can one use to lower their levels of acidity. I was thinking about daily Alka-Seltzer use but not sure if there will be any adverse affects of long term daily use.

I’m pretty sure they were talking about having low HCL production in the stomach causing food to not be digested as well as it should be. But since you did not list an article reference I can’t be sure if I am remembering correctly.

Minerals and baking soda are alkalizing. Take a multimineral supp and mix a little baking soda in with your greens plus after you workout.

buffers like potassium bicarbonate can be used, but it is easier to just use greens+ and fruits and veggies. you are looking to balance your intake, going far beyond that will not lead to linear gains. you will gain the most by bringing yourself into balance. to do this substitute some of your grain based carbs for fruits and add veggies to every meal. use the greens+ with shakes and when you can’t eat the veggies.

the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables are to numerous compared to using buffers to get acid base balance. your results from achieving acid-base balance from diet will outweigh that achieved through other means.

here is the Berardi article for those who are interested:

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been trying to eat as many fruits and veggis as possible and taking my Greens+ on a daily basis. I think I’ll try adding in a little baking soda with my shakes. How much is a good amount to start with; 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, more?

How do you know you’re overly acidic? It’s just as possible you may be too alkaline. In the latter case trying to alkanalize your system may make things worse.

Some test results from my last physical showed elevated ph levels.

There’s a product called Alkalife(Potassium and Sodium Minerals in Hydroxide form), drops you put in your water that raise the pH to 10, they have a pill form as well called Bicarb balance. Fiji water and most juices have a high pH and will lower acidity.

You could load up on lemons, watermelons and cateloupe and other alkalizing foods.
Digestive enzymes can raise pH levels as well. Also, test your pH with saliva and urine test strips to determine your pH level.

If your ph is elevated then you’re too alkaline not acidic. Or did you mean to say lowered ph levels? What kind of testing procedure did you use?

Its highly unlikely that your to alkaline. If you read any work done by dr. rogers via PH MIRACLE writes thattakes twenty parts alkaline to neutralize one part acid in the human body.

It does not balance out as an easy eye for an eye the way Berardi describes in the most deductive reasoning.

If you really want to feel the benefits of alkalinity.
try a fresh vegetable juice, cucumber, kale, brocoli, spinach, zuchini that will blow away any green powdered supplement.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on that. Anyone with lower than normal thyroid function and/or sympathetic nervous activity will more than likely develop an alkaline systemic response.

There’s two sides to a bell curve and not everyone is too acidic.

Under what method of testing?
saliva?
blood?
urine?

Inside the cells or outside the cells?
darkfield microscope?

I know often someone can be acidic outside the cells and alkaline in other areas, or vice versa.

I believe with thyroid you need warming foods and that alkaline foods will be YIN enhancing but I don’t think that alkaline body is related to those sydromes.
please elaborate more?

got an answer?
