I’ve read a few articles discussing metabolic acidosis and considering focusing on making sure to get plenty of alkalizing foods in my diet.
Should there be any concern about having too many alkalizing foods?

Read these sites and tell me what think makes more sense.
No.
Did you read about the thing on whey on the first link? haha

Of those three, the last one is the best.
The best of such articles I’ve come across is
http://www.T-Nation.com/readArticle.do?id=460222
Also, Thib’s makes references to this idea in his insulin protocol
http://www.T-Nation.com/tmagnum/readTopic.do?id=2092666
He adds 10g of Glutamine to act as a buffer against the acidity.
There are also a lot of occasional references in T-Nation articles that state adding a teaspoon of baking soda to your protein shake might be a good idea. The adverse effects mentioned in the Berardi article are enough to make me concerned about this issue.
There seems to be a an interesting (potential) conceptual intersection between PH balance and inflammation but I have not identified any articles discussing the relationship amongst the two.

Absolutely. While most foods that are considered alkalizing are excellent for you and you should eat them anyway you need not worry about balancing pH with your diet.
Thanks.
