Hi guys/girls, I began cutting weight in February after returning to my University because I felt as though I needed to focus on my diet more. So far I have lost 25lbs (from 225 to just under 200 on the scale this morning) and 4.5% (from 18 to ~13.5) bodyfat. My problem though is I feel as though I’m losing too much muscle on this diet and am sacrificing a lot of size for the reduction in bodyfat.
Basically what my diet has consisted of is about 50 grams of carbs and lots of fats/protein along with two cheat meals per week that are really difficult for me to avoid (I’m an officer in one of the student organizations I’m involved in on campus and we go out to dinner once a week so in order to maintain my position essentially I have to go. Also, my girlfriend probably wouldn’t be too pleased if we didn’t eat once a week together but since I’ve been dropping weight I don’t think that these have really held me back too much).
I was thinking about adding a small piece of fruit like an apple or an orange to my breakfast on my higher intensity days and a sweet potato to my meal that I eat before training. I think that would give me about 50 more grams of carbs per day. Would this help me preserve more muscle?
Also, I would like to add that I’ve been doing Wendler 5/3/1 on my cut and my lifts have continued to increase the entire two months.
