Alcohol, yes. Drugs. Show me the club that lists “drugs” in its menu. Anything happening “underground” in a dark area with loud music doesn’t get blamed on the club unless the club knows about it. How is the club getting direct funds from drugs?

I personally have never seen someone that small working as a bouncer. I guess it all depends on where you live. In Texas, you would have been tested on a regular basis depending on the club.
Dalton gets it done at that size.

Funny enough, I never saw that movie. Then again, I never saw Dirty Dancing either. I guess I missed the whole Swayze revolution. I went from Red Dawn to Ghost and that was it.
Uh, Dalton gets it done at that size
understanding its tongue in cheek of course…but good old Dalton had to fight damn near every night…and his pay was handsome - that never happens! He had to fight every night because everyone “thought he’d be bigger” LOL.
Anyway, I hate to admit it, but I actually like that movie.
Oh, I have something to add to the “pay is shitty” aspect of this; the pay isn’t shitty if you can actually work the door collecting money…two for you, one for me, two for you, one for me. And if you’re at an exclusive club actually responsible for letting or not letting people in, you can make some nice cheese on the side.
But damn, I still say, not worth it. The thing is, if you offered me $500 right now to go outside and fight - I’d turn it down. But if you pushed the right buttons, I’d fight you for free. Money isn’t everything!
All the bouncers where I work are under 200. 2 of them significantly. Only the head bouncer is 6’ 260 and I am 6’2 375. If there is a problem they can’t handle they get us. At my size I can bull trough anyone to get them out the door. But for how little I get paid. The place I work can’t get big guys. I work there because it forces me to be social.

So if 210 is still “little”, what do I have to be in order to be a legit presence in the club? 220? 260? My ideal frame is 230 lbs. at about 8% - but thats down the road…way down the road.
The only ones who will tell you that size does not matter…usually are the ones who don’t have the size to know the difference. I am just letting you know that some jobs you work will pay more for larger guys because you present more of a deterrent for things to pop off in the first place. Your exact weight isn’t so much the issue but your overall look and presence. When I was working like I mentioned before, I think I only weighed about 240lbs at the time. From what I can tell, I just have a look like I am pissed off even when I’m not and I think people respond to that.
Bruce Lee would kick your ass Prof.
You only look mean all the time because, in your heart, you know this.
I used to do something very similar to bouncing. I’m not a big guy at all (5’9" @ a much contested 200), or so I’ve been told. You don’t have to be big to be a bouncer (you’ll almost always outnumber the other guy/guys), but it really helps. My buddy did the same thing I did and he’s pretty much a monster (6’2" 245). He never got into fights. I was ALWAYS fighting. Size is a great deterrent. Not being as big sometimes invites bigger/drunker guys to test you.

Methinks someone has lived on the right side of the tracks for too long.
You are either a fool for not believeing that some guys are just like this, or you just haven’t seen too much of the world.
There are certain guys who give off a very intimidating prescensce, no matter how big they are (Think a Joe Pesci type in Casino, or a Tony Soprano type). Its all a look in the eyes, and its just the demeanor.
Maybe you should meet more people before you go into bouncing, because if you can’t look at a guy and tell whether he’s going to cause trouble or not, then you are in the wrong line of business. You should be able to see just how far that guy would take it, just from looking at him.
Go work at Macy’s or something.

Bigger is better and I will tell you why.
A couple of my buddies and training partners have bounced at under 6 foot and 170-180 pounds. Both were regularly challenged. Now, they are very legit tough dudes(mma trained) and packed the lunch of a number of much bigger men. But that is the problem. One is still involved in litigation because of injuries he caused in a fight.
If you’re way bigger than the majority of the population, you probably won’t get to the point of having to tool on somebody.
Huge bouncers have much more peaceful careers. They’re also better at pushing
stupid drunks out of the establishment without having to dismantle them.
I would reconsider the job.
This was my exact experience. I bounced at a popular bar for a year at 5’7, 172 lbs. I’ve done jiu jitsu and mma and it it was a good thing because I was called out on a regular basis. By the time I got my third order to appear in court and second trip to the ER with a ruptured tendon in my right hand, I knew it was time to hang it up.
That being said, it was the most fun I’ve ever had EVER!!! If it’s in your heart, go for it.
Im 6’7 290 and I realize how most you guys talk about smaller guys who know how to fight, but I hope you realize that its usually the punks aka, non knowing how to fight people that tend to start shit. Even if they know how to fight theyre isnt much you can do against a few big guys if they are to jump you, I dont care what you know, but if you have 900 pounds on you there isnt much you can do.
Regardless, its about having big guys there to make sure people are too scared to start shit there, prevention, like prof X said. It helps that I have done karate and am big too. I personally wouldnt be a bouncer on a regular basis, I work off and on, but no matter how big you are you cant do much against someone who pulls a gun. A knife is also hard to fight against. Be careful, cuz there are crazy people everywhere.

I’m not contesting the fact that certain people have “dominating” presences, or exude fear-inspiring demeanors.
What I find amusing is the term “alpha” male. Do you know where that term originated and the ONLY place it is used? In the PUA (pick up artist) scene - a subculture of people who exploit the money of hapless nerds that can’t score a lay if their life depended on it. The word “alpha” is used to denote a person capable of fucking a lot of chicks - like the Alpha Male in a pack of wolves.
A lot of technically “alpha” males, if you want to play semantics, are skinny frat kids that do everything but inspire respect. They are able to dominate and exploit social situations verbally, but thats as far as their domination goes.
Being “alpha” has nothing to do with possessing a large physical presence or being able to create respect. Thats why I laughed…cuz the guy that accused me of not being “alpha” used the term like it was fuckin scientific nomenclature when in reality it is a term that originated in dating-help cirles LMAO.

Just out of curiosity, when do you think the “PUA scene” originated the concept of Alpha Male?
Just reading your posts, I would have never hired you as my bouncer at my old bar. So to answer your question, 6 foot 13 inches and 600 lbs with 2% bodyfat probably isn’t “big enough” for you.
Learn how to interact with people who push your buttons in a calm and in control manner. Learn how to evaluate a situation before it happens. Hopefully you have that spidey sense for potential situations. Recognize that you are not there to fight but there to keep fights from happening. You fight because there is no choice and you fight to end the fight preferably without injuring the customers. Work as a team, know how to communicate with them, have nothing to prove and you will be “big enough” to handle 99% of every altercation / possible altercation as a bouncer.
My big nights at my place were around 1,200 to 1,500 with 2,000 being the biggest (a bit over capacity.) My best bouncer hands down was a 6 foot 2, thin, off duty police woman. Ya a woman. But she had the presence of fucking Darth Vader. Dude you were scared to be around her and you knew she wore the pants in her relationship. She was that bad ass. I had big guys all the time come up to me and be like “damn that woman is intense.”
What she had is what BodyGuard is refering to as the “Alpha Male.” My team was usually around 6 to 8 people on those events, all off duty cops and she had more raw intensity dripping from her than the rest of the team combined, and there was some big boys there. Shit didn’t start when she was around, and that is how bar owners prefer it.
She was “big enough”, you as far as I can tell, are not.
The Alpha Male in a wolf pack gets to fuck all the bitches because of his physical presence, and physical dominance of the pack.
That is a true Alpha Male. Not a duchebag who can talk his way into some girls pants.

The term Alpha Male was borrowed by the PUA but has been in use by Author and streetfighter Animal Macyoung sinces the 80’s and befor that as a term in for the predominant male in the animal world, and we are all animals we maybe a bit more civilized but we are still animals and I have the Hairy back to prove it;)
As to the pay depending on your size well that depends on where you work.
The average bouncer gets $17 per hour here in Melbourne, I get $50 per hour at a chubby 5’11" .
And the best paid bouncers that I have met are my size or shorter, and we do try to avoid violences whenever possible because if the police have to come to often to a club here the place will loose its license, we have had a few places closed down because the bouncers did not know how to control the crowd but only how to look intimdating.
Also here in Melbourne we all have to be licenced bouncers or Crowd controllers and have to do courses that include knowledge of the law so get a basic law book and check out powers of arrest , tresspass and assualt they will be different from here but important for you to know.

I always wonder if anyone else has read his work.
I’ve read a couple of his books, and his stuff is very truthful, and it holds true on the street. They were the best books I’ve read that have a real life application.
