Meet plan:
675-725-7?? in squat
525-550-580 in BP
565-what i need for elite-630
This is a bit of a dice roll.
239 on scale morning of meet. Felt better and better last couple days. Warmups felt great in squat. Opener was 665. Got on platform and bar not loaded right. When it is finally loaded i notice it is old fashioned squat racks with huge foot plates. So have to get racks even wider and then i notice bar is uneven. i have to go as legs are tingling.
Smoke the 665, but as i get to top i can feel a twinge i my left low back. Turned out to be hip flexor but hoped for best. Try to setup with 725 but can’t stand erect. Get an emergency adjustment from a chiro and use my other suit and try the 725 again. Better but can’t control descent so re rack it.
1-3 in squat.
Bench warmups quick but strong. Didn’t explode the 525 opener in my F6 and got 2-1 red. Repeated and more leg drive, explosion, and elbow roll and 525 was strong. Switched to Katana and went to 550. had trouble touching and dumped it. In retrospect i was pretty nonchalant about dumping 550 on my abs. Strong abs are useful in so many ways.
1-3 in squat.
Decided to open light because i had no idea how tweaked my back was, so dropped opener to 500. Warmups sort of marginal, uncomfortable but not painfull. 500 was good with belt loose, jumped to 565 planned opener and was strong lift. Uncomfortable putting it down. Sort of had breath knocked out of me lowering it. Got 600 above my knees but low back was fried.
Probably pushed my training too hard too quickly. Last weeks DLs were very hard. DLs are usually easier for me than squat portion of that workout, but not last week. Setup problems and rack issues didn’t help. Really wanted that 725 because i knew it was there today. Bench setup was great, like the Katana and now i know what it will take to touch smoothly. DL was OBE with a hip flexor and fried erectors.
Sounds like a tough meet Jack. I have yet to try my Katana, but will start working in it soon. I plan on using it at nationals. Be glad you didn’t come to the Longhorn – it was a very long day. They started lifting at 915 and finished at about 9pm…and it was a two platform meet. We left Austin at about 10 pm…
Best of luck in your quest – so how far off were you yesterday?

firebug,
I need 1890, so if I put together my PRs i am in business. Have a few training tweaks I am trying for January.
I have no doubt that you will get there. What meet will you do in January? My next one will be in your backyard - Women’s Nationals in February.
Take care and Train hard,
Malinda

1DEC06 Friday
got a call from meet director on way home from work, said meet was cancelled tommorow. Too bad because BP work felt great but otherwise a day of stress and malaise.
Dammit dude, good work ethic, your actions are very much in congruence with your goals. You even seem to take the health thing seriously with the mobility work etc. which is good to see.
I often wonder how you guys feed yourselves. 242 # is a big guy. Shit feeding my 170lb ass is hard.
Do you get to eat alligator in the south. I’d love to try alligator if its anything like crocodile… which is awesome.

Chris,
i am 235-240 at 5’7". I have 30 years of training and muscle. If i take my shirt off nobody from Men’s Heath will come running, but i have a six pack and leg mass/definition that is a bit freaky, but so does my marathoner sister. (Thanks mom and dad).
I eat at least 3 meals a day and at least one snack. I eat cleaner than most PLers but am not a fanatic about it. I am as big as i ever want to be so if i am out socially i eat what is available, no tupperware carrying for me.
I love red meat, peanut butter, fish, fowl, dairy, salad, pasta. Actually can’t think of much i don’t like. I avoid fried food. I just eat well and often.
In fact, when i go on a cruise ship for a week i loose weight because i sleep in and relax and skip breakfast, eat a salad and meat for lunch(but a lot of salad), then eat a bigdinner. i do not drink much so that is not enough calories. i lost 7lbs in 7 days last time.
Long training history+enough food+heavy weights+plus constant cycling of volume and intensity+Strength plus mass.
And someday i will drop to an emaciated 200-210. With a bit of upper body focus(i do little direct arm or delt work)i could get on a stage if i wasn’t so pasty white and didn’t hate speedos! My wife will have to be the judge.
