Hey Jack, heres that video. This was the first time back in the BOSS since Dec. Pretty scary, but at least we tested the chains, LOL:

Terry is hilarious at the end!
yesterday:
in Miami at a commercial gym full of rich housewives with their plastic phones and plastic boobs.
BP 135x10, 225x25, close gripx15. No chalk allowed and silver bar sliding out of my hand.Stopped sets early.
overhead squats bar5, 95x3, 135x3x3 “accidently” dropped bar every time. Profoundly apologized.
one leg bulgarian squatsx25 right side ony
one leg dls oly bar x8 a side
one hand pulldowns 70/80/90/100x8L+8R like these
spread eagle situpsx85
rolled hip on a fat bar. ouch.
…they must have all breathed a sigh of relief when you left the gym and muttered snide comments under their breath, etc!
On a different note, I took a look at the video of your buddy, and one thing came to mind…even though I have no Monolift, my power pack has a safety chain set-up and 1" safety pins…I always try to grab a spotter whenever there is any doubt whatsoever in my mind about making a lift.
Always picking weights you know you can do, is good for maintaining strength you already have; using weights that you are not sure you are going to make and eventually lifting them, BUILDS STRENGTH. What do you think about that, Jack? I am at a point in my life where I, think i am just exhibiting strength I have built up over the years, maintaining in some, declining in others.
Do you think it is possible to continue building strength through life? Or, is there some period of time after which this is not probable? If so, take a guesstimate on when you think this transition period occurs for someone who has been lifting since 13, competing in OL/WL at 18-21 and competing in PL since that time to the present(30+ years)?
I would really like to hear what you have to say about this subject or anything related.
Thanks,
Art

Art,
i think there is a time when you can’t gain more strength, i just plan to ignore it. One way to hasten that time is to stop training hard and heavy. As you age you may need to drop reps a bit and drop overall volume, but that training background is there to tap into, just have to keep reduced recovery issues in mind, or do more recovery work and prehab.
i generally plan on working to a PR monthly in several lifts, then backoff and work up again. Honestly, if you can PR at 45 once a month, what is there to complain about?
The Russkies thought you were done in your early 30s in Oly, and maybe at a high level that is true, but the same guys who beat me at the Open Nationals at 242 are there at the Masters Nationals. Keep focusing on a diet of improving yourself, then have some humble pie and look at others for motivation.
When i compete it is to win with no comma for age. i do hope to win the masters money at Biggest BP on River though May 5th!

A very unique answer to a mind-boggling question! THANKS. I wish you the best in training for your BP contest in May. Please keep me informed of your progress.
running late from my watching my son’s baseball game. A nice triple then a play at the plate where he bowled over the much bigger catcher. Sometimes the training has to wait.

46 katana on

MM seminar next weekend, I’ll let ya know what I learn.
heres video of my last work out before the seminar.
Jack,
Do you do any direct neckt work? 20.5 is pretty good.

Nope, just my normal workouts. I would never get a shirt to fit if i did any neck specific work! Also, my chiro discovered my neck is fuzed in a few places, probably from knocking my head against the wall for so many years, so i wouldn’t load it up even if i was a pencil neck.
jack
Semi annual PRT today, waived for run due to hip so score was OBE, so tried for a most reps in a minute, 60 situps and 60 pushups in under a minute.
later GHRx8x3 sets
KB snatch 10x10 in 10 minutes
one leg squat 25R
mobility and flexibility every day for hips
Thanks for the kind words on my thread…I do these mini meets in my garage maybe 3-4 times a year. Just me, my walkman, the weights and sore for days after. Because there are no judges, I try to be ultra-strict.
I only deviate somewhat in the BP, since I’m not getting a handoff, I bring the bar down w/o waiting for a “start” command. Sometimes I use full equipment, other times just shorts and Tee Shirt like this past Saturday. Have an awesome week, Jack, will catch up with yu one of these days at a contest and thank you in person.

mobility
BP 135x7x2, 225x5x2, 315x3 not great warmups, but to be expected after last weeks super heavy shirt work.
48 Katana 2 board 405x2, 495x1, adjusted sleeves on shirt, 1 board 535x1 not sharp. changed to 46 F6, 1 board 535x1, 2 board 495x5
shirt off
4 board 405x4 fried
chinsx7x3 sets
wanted to check if the 48 Katana was a better opener shirt. While i love my 46 Katana, the 46 F6 is still my opener shirt.
Meet plan:46 F6 530, change to 46 Katana 580, then 600.
AWESOME meet attempts! Best of everything to you for this meet!
Been checking out your training for awhile. I usually only post in our Westside thread but I thought I would stop in and tell you all to keep up the great work!
Jack,
Good luck in your next meet. I have four lined up for the summer and fall.

Jack,
Nice work brother, I hope things go well on the river. Jesse invited me down but there is no way I can come, maybe next year. Age is a stat of mind, if you think your old your old. So keep thinking young my friend.

On road for work in Fort Worth. May move here and while gym on base is pretty good, imagine my joy when i walked in gym and found a brand new FORZA Bench! So that closes the deal, we are taking the job here!
Anyway…
Close grip BP 135x7, 225x5, 315x3
Speed BP with Green bands looped together and under bench and over outside of plates. Like this setup, greens gave me about 70-80lbs at top, little at chest, which is what i like to stress lockout and save pecs. 225x3x8 sets 3 grips
close grip same setup 255x3, 275x3x2 sets
hammer iso row 4/6/8/8 platesx10
GHRx8x2 all GHRs are not the same!
wanted to do more but want to BP more next week so stopped.
