soldog- this week I’m drinking a redhead called Griffon. not bad at all.
Greg- Frenchie cause I’m the french girl of the group. But Mainy’s fine too. I could totally rock that outfit at a meet! but the dress wasn’t cheap so I’ll keep it away from the chalk.
reminds me of a lesson I learned last meet: before the comp I was wearing a short jean skirt planning to get into my singlet in a bit when we had to get our sizing from the rack. Not very smart to do a bench set up in a skirt. Glad I was wearing a pair of comfy undies cause the gym had a nice peek. oh well, c’est la vie. lol.

Just had a look at the Sheiko program Joe and here’s the thing. I was never a program girl. Did 5/3/1 from March to June with great results. This summer I am giving myself time off of a program to just go in and have fun until I get back fom my summer vacation which is the 2nd week of September.
Provicincial are October 30th. If you remove the week before comp which is total rest for me that leaves me with a 7 week gap. Sheiko stretches to 13 weeks. Here’s my game plan: have fun, do 5/3/1 for a couple of weeks prior to provicincials, rest and give Sheiko a running try in November. Deal?
by then you can tell me if you’ve had good gains on it or not. I must say I like a few points:
1- training 3 times a week only.
2- focusing on the big lifts - important to us PL.
What I am a little worried about is the repetitiveness. Benching 3 times a week, squat twice a week… I know you aren’t hitting near your maxes but looks a little harsh. My brain wants to move away from “repeat” for now but despite my concerns I’m willing to see where it leads me come november.
I just reread my post and now I’m nervous about October meet. seems too close. Part of me feels I should jump on a program - mostly I’ve been enjoying having fun these past few days.
Peeps who have been doing this for a while: How long before the meet should I get my head game on and my shit together? Are 2 cycles of 5/3/1 enough premeet programming if I keep lifting heavy during the summer?
I can’t help with your program picking, meet planning dilemma, but I wouldn’t underestimate the value of simply enjoying your training. I can tell you’re having fun right now. Lot’s of strong energy in this log!

Ahhhh that makes sense. I’m dumb lol
That is a pretty fancy dress and keeping it away from the chalk is a good idea… Would make for an awesome meet video if you wore it though
I also “worry” about the repetition being boring and hard to maintain intensity for. I’m hoping that having an extra day for Conditioning/GPP/Playing will keep me into it.
As for the meet, so far I think 4-5 weeks are good for dialing lifts in, IMHO. That would give you at least 2 cycles to go, right?
I don’t know much about programs and fitting them into time-schedules, but you could always do something like an idea I was toying around with, which is building 5/3/1 into a bodypart split.
Nadia- thank you, we all have our ups and downs. I live for the highs.
MIM & Blaze - I might come up with a bastardized summer 5/3/1 and then stick to the real program come september… makes most sense for now.
Greg - if I ever have a home gym I am SO doing that vid. “Geek rocker chick squats 225lbs in sequine dress” too awesome.
Joe - the only way I can see the Sheiko sitting with me is if I convince myself to stick with it for 13 weeks and do something totaly different after as a switch up, like supersets, or bowling
so today - felt tired and blah: the friday mode. even the sups couldn’t bump me up.
Neutral grip pullups
2 red bands 3x5
front squats
bar 1x8
95lbs 3x5
then tried the oly style of holding the bar
bar 1x8
95lbs 1x5.
this just hurts my wrists too much. don’t know how others do it…
pushups on medecine ball 3x8
glute ham raise 3x8 - today’s article reminded me I have not been doing these.
treadmill: 40mins, 3mph, 7% incline.
I can feel my conditioning returning. Also I haven’t been as bad with my usual summer social smoking as I know I can be (only during the occasional weekend party). I’m keeping in mind that treck.
Okay, I have to ask, what is “sheiko”? It sounds like a Japanese lifting program. You never hear much about amazing Japanese lifting, so I’m confused. What’s the deal here?

ironcross - you can search it by name in TN search engine and read up on it. I’m not big for reps and volume but I might give it a try to switch things around in November.
having fun is important. i’m starting to think that i’m not much of a program girl, either. glad to hear of others making gains without following a program precisely. programs are all well and good until life gets in the way. realizing i’m afraid to go hard on legs in particular when i know i need to haul my ass around on my feet the next day. if i have the next day off i’m much more willing to tear things up!
alexus - I think intensity and focus are as rewarding as a good program. Of course, by experience I can say that joining the two together gives the best results. However sometimes you need to find the fun and summer is a great time for that.
provincials in october. we shall see how it goes… I need to see if I can add some weight to the bar from June. Not doing them if its status quo.
Charlie - smoking or not 20hrs of hiking mountains in 4 days will be challenging. I’ve done this in the past and preperation is a key point in making this pleasant. And not smoking 2 ciggs a month won’t replace 1.5 hrs of cardio a week. I need to bump this up a notch too.
Mims - decided to stick with 5/3/1 with cardio and fun stuff as accessory until august and then drop the treadmill in august and focus on lifting heavy until october.
as with all things balance is key. fun stuff and homework should give me what I want and need.
The Oly style front squat hurts at first hut if you keep doing them theyll feel better. I think
It Linda forces your wrists to ‘stretch’ out a little and then it does t hurt as much.
Did you try it with just your middle three fingers on the bar? That makes it less painful… Just incase you try em again
