Interesting that being so formulaic works for you. My strategies for determining attempt numbers are very different for each lift. And vary from meet to meet as well.
Not really formulaic, I pick them up from Jim and they work for me. I hit light weights, and go up to my goal without wearing myself out like most people who hit multiple 95%+ lifts of their goal.
BGW - awesome song choice!! I’ve been listening to it on repeat all morning
BC - I know what you are saying but there is a mind game with the weights and like Snap I play it more intuitively.
Ouro - Husband, Coach and team but I took care of my own numbers. Just took the time to think about them and planned them out properly and added some numbers high and low depending on how the previous lift felt. My planning was perfect I ended up not changing a thing. For my the issue is still thinking in Kg…
PP - yeah Macha’s been family for 11yrs now Got her when she was a foundling kitten in the snow destined for sure death until she got lucky. As for the undies the seam in front is only for decoration. no holes, no underoos. boycut ladies shorts. They have flower and butterfly prints on them…
IC, Soldog, Kimba + MFM - Big thanks!!! sharing these events with all of you makes it so much more exciting. You guys honestly make this worthwhile for me
Mim - channelling of the wolf at its focus there was
Kalle - celebratory wine for the Frenchie and there was a glass before hitting the road to get back home.
Hey Pirate Lady - I’m surprised you remember… For those following my log only recently there was a discussion concerning totem animals back in November… This is what I wrote after the discussion:
"On a different note it is now 1am and I just woke up from the strangest dream. There was a discussion between Hallowed and other folks about your “totem animal” in a thread a few days back. Without directly believing in it I do feel that we can associate ourselves to certain characteristics of animals to the point of dreaming about them. I dream of house cats regularly because the critters are like family to me. I always assumed I would associate myself with the big cats. So I’ve been kinda sending the thought “out there” that it would be cool to know my totem animal and dream of it…
I’m running, it’s night in the city. No city lights but I can see fine. The buildings are pretty crumbled and open. People have weapons. guns, a war zone. I am running stealth-like through the shadows trying to escape. The running leads me to water. The bridge is collapsed. It is cold outside, fall: almost winter. I need to cross the river. I think “This is too cold. It will kill me” I jump in, with a growl. I barely feel the cold. I think “wolf” at this point. Something touches my feet in the water, helping to push me through the currents. It is ok. It is my mate helping. Why do I need help? I realize as I get out of the water: I am pregnant. We are running, I on 2 feet, my mate on 4. He is in this strange half-changed/wolf state. He is exhausted. We hide and run. We hide because he cannot change and pass as human. He is too exhausted. In crowded areas I use my human state to try and distract guards and other people with weapons hunting. It is a somewhat modern scene. We hide between cars and other recent creations…In my dream I give birth. I have a son, we have a son. He is in human form and perfect. My mate is on the brink of death having guarded us through it all. I have a thought that he will not make it, perhaps my son will survive if we leave him behind. But no; he is lying on the ground, still in half-form, eyes closed. I take my son’s hand and bring it to his nose. “Our son” I say. He wakes up alert, eyes focused on the path we must take. He will see us through this. He will find the last bit of energy he needs for his son. We are running, my son against my chest, my right hand occassionaly drifting down to grasp a handfull of fur. Finally we reach a smaller town. It is not safe, but safer. We can rest here for a day or two. There are is a small group of children outside. I think “It will be good for my son to play with other children” already he is bigger - like a 6 month old.
And I wake up, with a strange peace in my heart but also a sadness from knowing my left arm empty of my son and my right hand empty of my mate’s fur.
My waking mind though that maybe I was wolf-like all along and could not “compute” it, but really there was such a difference between my upright walking and my mate that it was not. I could not fall back asleep so I thought it would help me if I shared the experience. I know I have a head filled with fantasy fiction but I have not read/watched anything recently to trigger such as dream. I went to bed after watching a show on motor bikes…

Frenchie, how did it go?!?!?!
LOL - I’m trying to delay the suprise a bit
cereally I had an awesomesauce day. Weighed in at 70kg, fine and dandy for the 74kg class. Proceeded to eat like a freight train. Felt nice and strong too.
1st lift Squats white lights thoughout!!!
75kg or 165lbs
85kg or 187lbs
90kg or 198lbs
last meet I had topped at 82.5kg or 181.5. added some nice poundage here. My issue at last meet was hitting depth but I was dropping in the hole like a dancer on the pole eyeing dough. Didn’t plan on PRs here cause my fed can be touchy on depth and I wasn’t convinced my 205 from a couple weeks back would have passed. The idea was to just crush depth. Mission accomplish.
2nd lift - Bench. Knew I wasn’t going to kill it here but put my game head on and pushed.
60kg or 132lbs
62.5kg or 137.5lbs
64kg or 140.8lbs - no good.
Basically equalled my score from March, but I was expecting that.
3rd lift - Deads - white lights throughout and super excited about it
120kg or 264lbs
127.5kg or 280.5lbs
135kg or 297lbs (I’m using my calculator at x 2.2 but this was 298 on my conversion sheet?? anways)
The last pull was a personal PR +2 or +3 lbs depending on how you calculate… In March I had maxed out at 117.5kg or 258.5lbs.
Overall really happy with my progress. Despite my stagnating bench I added 54lbs to my total in 3 Months. Now to rest up and start working towards my November Provincials. I see another 50lbs added to my total.
Awesome! I’m thrilled for you. Such tremendous gains in the squat and DL. No worries about the bench. Got on the computer this morning EXPRESSLY to check out your results. You certainly didn’t disappoint!

You increase each attempt 7.5%. That’s formulaic. I find that interesting because how I handle my weights is so different for each lift and depends on what I’m trying to accomplish at each meet.
Forgot to mention Chewy took tons of pics so I’ll be going through them and posting them a little later today.
Also wanted to mention some key things I did to have a better focus this time around.
1- I kept ALL my shit together ALL the time in my bag. I was not going to be THAT idiot screaming
“Where the fuck are my wrist wraps!!!” again. lol.
2- Brought my MP3 and poured some Disturbed full blown in my ears pre-lift to reach the perfect headspace.
3- Took the time (hours) to plan, calculate my lifts and some alternatives depending on how the felt. Also got confortable with the kg conversion.
4- At one point food just doesn’t go down anymore so I fueled on plenty of juice instead of water. Went through 6 juice boxes.
5- popped some supps to get a little boost. Main ingredients were green tea, yerba mate and ginseng. 2 before the 1st 2 lifts and 3 before the deads. I had tested them before lifting day and new how to use them
