I’m on a carb cycling diet and on my high carb days ive been stuffing my face with Quaker instant oatmeal. http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-quaker-oats-instant-maple-brown-i120829
I have other carb sources obviously but ive been utilizing the oatmeal alot. I find it easy to put down. Is this a bad choice though as a main carb source on my high carb days. Would you guys stay away from this and use an alternative?
Generally speaking, these packaged oatmeals are pretty highly processed shit. Without listing the ingrediants it’s hard to know what you are getting here. For your main carb sources, you want to keep to whole foods as much as possible. If you are going for oats, the only ingrediant listed should be “100% whole grain oats”. Add your own stuff if you like.
If you like it and don’t get sick of the same thing… have at it.
IF you are eating the flavored ones its crap. If you are getting plain instant oats with no sugar its OK. I prefer organic instant oats with flax it in. But normally Ill make a few cups of steel cut oats and put it in the fridge in portions. Oatmeal microwaves surprisingly well within 3-4 days.
While you could have ‘cleaner’ sources, I doubt on a high day that it’s going to hurt you any. I’ve had some pretty ‘bad’ carb sources while trying to make my high carb day numbers on several occasions.

I have been using the 10 lb bags of quick oats from Costco/grocery stores for probably 2 years now and I haven’t experienced any bad effects. I say youre fine using quick oats, so long as you arent eating the sugary crap, just plain good ole quick oats will do the trick IMO.
OATZ is good for mass.

When I did the RFL diet, I consumed 400 g of carbs in the 5-hr carb-up period.
NOT happening with high fiber, low calorie/unit of volume carb sources. If you have to take in something like 700 to 1000 grams of carbs in a day, I can’t see it being done with crispy clean sources all day. You can use Baked Lays, pretzels, waffles, pancakes, white pasta, crackers, bagels, and so on.
Though I usually eat Coach’s Oats, I did pick up some of those very same Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar one sand damn if they don’t taste great!
I make my Coach’s Oats by just putting some in a tupperware bowl with boiling water and close it for a few minutes. I’ll put some cinnamon in there, but the instant one is so good it’s scary. I’ll keep eating the ones I have, but should go back to Coach’s. The website you linked to gave it an A though. I think it can’t be all that bad.
