Pushing 50 and Looking for Feedback

Thought it was high time I actually post some progress pics. I originally posted some pics when I was first started lifting weights (43) and was in recovery from a surfing accident. I’ve pretty much been consistent - my wife and I are each others best motivators which is a help - as usual (maybe it’s just my usual though) there are those times when life is just to busy and I can’t get in enough to the gym.

I will say - since starting its been transformational and our lifestyles have changed in pretty much every way…what we eat, drink, sleep you name it.
I’m heavier now than I’ve ever been - 220 and I’m 5’9" - so I’ll say I’m bulking - but I could work on a cutting cycle over the summer - that is when we get back from 3 weeks in Europe (2 in the UK & 1 in Croatia) - we’re celebrating 30 years…married when we just 20!

Routine is 4- 5 times a week (45 min sessions always in the early morning)

  • right now its been an upper and lower split for the last 6 months
  • always dead lift (Currently 270 @ 3 sets of 8) - always squat (Currently 365 @ 3 sets of 8) - other lifts change

and…yes … just started YOGA with my wife - she comes to the gym - i figure I can go to yoga and I tell ya what … stretching stuff is not easy - Hot yoga too - Good for old bodies - and young - so don’t wait ! You would be amazed !

Diet is clean, clean…except for the occasional 2 glasses of malbec, zin or cab franc

Supplements : Fish Oil - Creatine - Aminos - B12 - ZMA - Vitamin D…oh and because it matters - Saw Palmeto

Like I said … I’m looking for some feedback - suggestions - critique
i’ll try to get some photo’s posted if I can get things worked out here.
Cheers from a Canuck!

Congratulation on your 30 years! And on the journey your now well on!

Keep up with the yoga if you like it, it will only help you in the weight room.

As far as your physique, I’d agree with your thoughts on a cut. Getting within a healthy bf% will not only make you look bigger and more cut, but its good for the body too. Improved insulin sensitivity, reduced risk of heart disease, joint problems ect.

Ps: make sure you name drop Canada in Croatia, they love us there!

Thanks Jbott for the well wishes …and for the input!

Cutting is a definite strategy on the block … getting down to a lesser bf range is a goal which I know has to happen - if I’m honest just not a huge fan of what is entailed necessarily - not a keen one for a lot of cardio which I know has to happen more. Oh well …

It’s always great as a Canadian to have such warm welcomes in different regions of the world - not something to take for granted … or squandered.
