Back when I first became a forum member, it wasn’t long before some good dudes (SteelyD being the first) added me to their Friends List, and I reciprocated. Some members that I had never even heard of had prompted me to be their Friend. Perhaps there was some personal/political/other common denominator that brought it on. In any case, I’ll add the friend without judgment.
Since then, I’ve had more additions to my List(some being by my own initiation).
My Friends List is small compared to some of you who seem to have befriended everyone here. LOL
With all due respect to those who have befriended me, I never really thought about the purpose of the Friends List until recently. What purpose does the List really serve? Is there some benefit that I’m not aware of? Or is the Friends List just a “feel-good” element to being a T-Nation member?
I think the LiveSpill or whatever its called tells your friends when you’ve posted. So if you are trying to take in all you can from someone’s training advice, its a good stalker tool! Plus I guess if you want to PM somebody and don’t want to go digging through posts, it makes that easier too.
Orrrr it could just be an ego boost to people to have 0913248354325243 friends!

Me? Really? WTF was I thinking?
I’ve used it mostly to view a profile or send a PM to someone who I wanted to see their stats after posting (lifts, advice, etc.) and their profile was private, wanted to communicate easily with because of something in common (versus having to search for them on the site), or who just seemed interesting.
I keep my profile private now after some douchebag did some shit. I keep a log in Over35 and have had a bunch of PM’s about progress pics, lifts, etc (plus the recipe thread) and the easiest way to make the pics available is to ‘friend’ them.
put it this way ID … you and I are friends on T-Nation … whenever you post it updates in my LiveSpill so I am now able to stalk you more efficiently than just hoping to see your name as the most recent poster in a particular thread … before livespill it was very hit or miss, now you’re mine forever
but seriously, Sometimes I like to check in to a friends page and see if they’ve been making progress or shoot them a quick pm if I have a question or just want to shoo the shit with them privately and the friend list allows easy access for that … there’s very few people on my friend list that is random
What I’d like would be if T-Nation gave you the option to refuse a friend. Like when buffdouchebagg adds you as a friend, you don’t get the option to say no thanks.
Has this changed since they introduced Live Spill and all that?
It originally allowed those people to respond and leave messages in your “hub”…however, this hub seems to get very little use. I used to get messages but it seems that the more people were added, the less actual communication came out of it.
Could be they are a fan of yours, they like you, think you’re hot as hm said, or maybe they just want to be associated with you somehow. See the last one alot with celebrity types on myspace.
If I’ve said something that could potentially piss someone off that I don’t think is a dick, but I don’t really ‘know’ too well, then I’ll friend them…this seems like a great segue to let anyone that wants to be my facebook friend to send me a pm…I’m up to 302 friends!!! almost as many as she say!
