Purpose of the Friends List?

I’m a gregarious creature, I just love to collect exotic people and store them away for future use.

Besides, when someone adds me as a friend, he/she has taken a GIANT step towards bringing TD into his/her life, and will eventually be rewarded/spared from decimation.

Eventually. Probably.

I add people that write things I like

I added TD because golems are cool.

I add people who make me LOL, or who I think have good training information. I suppose it makes it easier to find that person’s profile, but I rarely check profiles.

I do wish that we could decline friend requests. I usually reciprocate, but not when it’s some dude with no posts and 30 friends who are all female (or appear to be female).

What about the people you’ve added?

I think the whole “friends” thing is pretty pointless. When I get a request here I generally always okay it because I really don’t care either way. I mean, if you want to talk to me there’s PM and several of the guys here have my email because we talk quite a bit. Otherwise… I’m not an avid collector.

Kind of the same with Facebook. I know people whose “friends” list is in the upper thousands because they “friend” everyone they encounter in Mafia Wars or Farmville (or whatever…) but they don’t even really know any of those people. In such a setting I think that defeats the purpose…

Hmmm seems like somebody is a little jealous of their facebook friends…

What I’d like would be if T-Nation gave you the option to refuse a friend. Like when buffdouchebagg adds you as a friend, you don’t get the option to say no thanks.
Has this changed since they introduced Live Spill and all that?[/quote]

Yeah, I’m happy that wasn’t an option back when I posted as buffdouchebagg! Wait, what?

No, seriously, I think the most you can do is not reciprocate the friend request. But I don’t think that non-reciprocation is always the same as a refusal. I think it can often be just an oversight, judging by my own experience.

Or maybe I’m jealous of the massive amounts of free time my friends have to devote to Mafia Wars, Cafe Wold, Sorority Girls, and God knows what else they play over on Facebook. I don’t know how any of those games are played or how they even FIND them but I’m not spending vast amounts of rare down time giddily acquiring imaginary animals for my imaginary farm. I didn’t even know farms HAD elephants…

Okay, well, maybe I AM jealous… but I’m not telling THEM!

you see if it werent for polo being my friend i would have never posted here… seeing what your friends post gives you a broader view of the active forums here on T-Nation.

purpose of the friends list = to exclude people who aren’t your friends

Oh man. This just brings to light how few friends I have.

I feel like that weird kid who looks like he smells like cooked cabbage.

what does someone who looks like they smell like cooked cabbage look like?

Back when I first became a forum member, it wasn’t long before some good dudes (SteelyD being the first) added me to their Friends List, and I reciprocated. Some members that I had never even heard of had prompted me to be their Friend. Perhaps there was some personal/political/other common denominator that brought it on. In any case, I’ll add the friend without judgment.

Since then, I’ve had more additions to my List(some being by my own initiation).

My Friends List is small compared to some of you who seem to have befriended everyone here. LOL

With all due respect to those who have befriended me, I never really thought about the purpose of the Friends List until recently. What purpose does the List really serve? Is there some benefit that I’m not aware of? Or is the Friends List just a “feel-good” element to being a T-Nation member?

I did it in anticipation of you PM’ng me pics of your wife and the acoustic version of “When the children cry.”

Hey, that reminds me of a Korean buddy of mine, Sung Ho, I went to grad school with-- always smelled like kimchi. Great guy. Loves cabbage. Thought “They Call Me Bruce” was the greatest movie ever made.
