Pullovers - Are They Worth Doing?

I bet these are good for stretching the fascia around the upper tris as well, b/c my tris were sore for a day or two after doing this one last Saturday.

I’m gonna keep supersetting this one with chins. Maybe a between the legs cable-pullthrough might be another good one to ss pullovers with.

Good thread, I did tried straight arm pulldowns last week thanks to this and liked them.

They were a favourite of some of the golden age guys like Grimek and Reeves.
This is true
Reeves in particular made a lot of use of them, and his lat development was absolutely insane.
This is also true. But what is interesting is that Grimek, Reeves, McCallum, etc recommended the pullover because they said it “stretched the rib box to make it bigger.” Some say that’s impossible, some say it IS possible to stretch the cartilage. Who’s right? Who knows, but I still do them. Rader Chest Pulls are good, too.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. Vince Gironda and other ols scholl trainers reccomended “breathing squats” and “breathing pullovers” for rib cage expansion. They are said to work better if your are still growing (say teen years up to age 21) The cartlidge is supposed to harden after that.

I read and try a lot of old school routines. It’s a curse I tell ya.

Actually most of my clients including myself have some pretty substantial soreness in the triceps after doing them. That’s always a welcome benefit and another example of the fact that you can not isolate any muscle (nor should you). [/quote]

Same here. When I do these (which isn’t very often) my triceps feel it more than any other muscle.
