But i’ve been reading lately and it seems like a new bench might really benefit me. Right now the bench i have is 10 inches wide and about 3 inches on either side slope down, so the flat part is only about 4 inches wide. Which makes it really difficult to keep my upper back tight, especially on multiple rep sets.
If you have a power rack, pick up the dumbbell bench, it just makes the most sense. No point in buying a whole bench if you have a power rack that will give you more adjustability. The prowler is nice, but I feel like it’s overhyped.
I like the idea of the bench in the power rack. Depending on how much you can splurge, an adjustable bench is pretty sweet in the power rack. I love mine.
Buy adjustable bench. Find some rope and a tire. Put dumbbells in tire to make it heavier. Free tires are everywhere, especially since places charge to get rid of them.

Are you just saying that cause everybody is using it or you’ve used for a period of time and thought ‘‘This is fine but not like the ad says and i would have been fine with a cheap sled and 500$ is my pocket?’’

I’ve used the prowler briefly and like others have said about using a tire. This is what I’m currently doing, took a spare wheel and tire that wouldn’t hold air, attached an eye hook and then rope. This setup works just as good, if not better b/c I can do other work with the tire than just pulling or pushing it.

When I did conditioning the prowler was great but i never bought one, i just made one so thats alot cheaper i.e. cost me nothing. I also made a tire and metal sled and none of them improved my conditioning and sprint time as good as the prowler did. But then its just way over priced especially compared to the price of the steel used.

I mean, the prowler is a great piece of equipment but I can’t justify paying that price for it. The tire set up cost me $15 for the hardware (bolt and rope) and I can lean into it and put my head down and outstretch my arms holding onto the rope, It’s not exactly the same but its something…haha. But I can do back work and shoulder work with the rope that I wouldn’t be able to do with just a prowler. If I could find a local shop to produce one at a better price I may consider it.
At the end of the day it seems like the OP needs a bench most of all and with his setup a good adjustable bench or if cost is an issue what we used to do at our garage gym is use a regular dumbbell bench like this one: http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&cid=114&pid=311 then go to the hardware store and build some boxes out of some wood (a range of heights), then you can stack the boxes and place the bench on it if you want an incline.
What’s cool about tires is that you can whack them with a heavy hammer for extra conditioning which doesn’t impede the hypertrophy in your legs.
I’ve also kind always liked car pushes for leg conditioning… a prowler is cool but not necessary.
I would recommend an adjustable bench but if the OP is more focused on conditioning. It opens up so many options… benches, supported rows, military presses, seated lat raises, bicep curls (if you’re into that), etc.
One thing I noticed on those benches, the shipping doesn’t make up for the retail price drop off. Of course, I remember buying a good bench at $400 so maybe it’s still worth it to order, but maybe some shopping around is in order.
