I’m about out of my 5lb tub of whey, and was curious if it would be a smart move for me to move on to just weight gainer 3-4 times a day instead of a protein shake. Some weight gainers have a comparable amount of protein in them, but not sure if it would be wise to completely ditch a simple whey shake for the gainer. I’m bulking now, anyway. Thoughts?
Weight gainer is bullshit. Eat more real food, drink whole milk and olive oil.

A protien supplement like an Isolate or compound is gonna be better quality than a gainer.Gainers are filled with all kinds of additives for calories so you would be consuming alot of crap like sugar.Get a good protien and just eat more, Also if you you have the huevos to do it drink extra virgin olive oil acouple times a day.One shot of this stuff is about 400 calories, It appears to be high in fat but it isnt trans or saturated fat so as long as your really hitting the weights this will benefit you more than a gainer.
Thanks a lot fellas. I’m pretty damn new to this shit and considered the fact weight gainers are full of extra BS. I currently drink about 3-4 shakes a day and 1-2 of those shakes I add 2 tablespoons of EVOO in them. I’ll just stick with the protein shakes.
While technically not a “weight gainer,” Metabolic Drive Complete is great for this purpose.
Mix with milk and a little PB and your good to go.
Quick, convenient, quality calories and protein that taste good.
Well, if you are going to be using the weight gainer for post workout I don’t see anything wrong with that. I used weight gainer shakes for about 3 years. I think there are better options such as using protein and waxy maize but if you can’t afford that nothing is wrong with a weight gainer.
Just be aware that if you use it as a meal replacement, other than the times around your workout, you will gain fat like none other.
Are you having a carb source with your protein after you lift already? From your post it sounds like you are just having protein.

Post workout I have 3 scoops of protein (about 70 grams of protein) in whole or 2% milk, with 1/2 cup of oats, and a banana. I went ahead and picked up another 5lb tub of some ON whey protein. I just figured I could knock 2 birds with 1 stone by using a weight gainer for protein and calories. Instead I’ll just do my usual protein shakes and eat good food. By the way, what do you think about the Gold Standard protein?
I haven’t looked into weight gainers much (trying to go other way), but it seems like they’re just dense packs of carbs, protein, and fat.
You could make your own with protein powder, whole milk, EVOO, sugar, bananas, etc etc. I’m not sure what’s magic about the gainers (except maybe they’re less filling than real food?)
If possible I’d stay away from the fat immediately peri-workout, it might slow down protein absorption.
