Protein First: Triple Chocolate Ice Cream

by Chris Shugart

Healthy, High-Protein Dessert

To be strong and healthy, you need protein and polyphenols. Get a big hit of both by eating this no-added-sugar ice cream.

If you care about your health, eat a lot of protein and a little chocolate every day. No kidding. Cocoa/cacao is rich in flavan-3-ols and proanthocyanins, two sub-groupings of polyphenols that lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, boost nitric oxide (NO) levels, improve gut health, and more.

But you're just here for the ice cream, right? Understandable. So, let's make it with three sources of healthy chocolate. All you need is one of those awesome Ninja CREAMi (Buy at Amazon) gadgets.

Here's Dani to show you how to make it:

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together all the ingredients except the chopped chocolate bits.
  2. Pour into the Ninja CREAMi (Buy at Amazon) pint cup and freeze overnight.
  3. Follow the directions on your Ninja CREAMi using the "lite ice cream" setting.
  4. If it looks powdery, grainy, or too thick for your liking, add one tablespoon of milk and hit the "re-spin" button.
  5. Now add the chocolate bits. Using a spoon, make a hole in the ice cream and add the chopped chocolate. Use the "mix-in" button to bring it all together.

Notes

  • Feel free to use whatever milk or milk substitute you want. Almond milk, whole cow's milk, and coconut milk all work depending on your dietary needs. A liquid with at least a little fat provides the best texture.
