Pride/UFC This Weekend

Who saw the shows this weekend?
The UFC show was fantastic, ko after ko after ko. Who saw the shows this weekend?

Best fight had to be Diaz/Parisyan

That Yves Edwards kick has to be the one of the all-time best kicks in MMA history. I jumped off my couch when I saw it, it was unbelievable!

But I wonder if its a legit shoot move because I’ve only seen it in pro wrestling where they call it the enzuigiri. (Remember the old “Pro Wrestling” game on NES? Fighter Hayabusa had it and they called it the “Back Brain Kick”)

Amazing seeing another rasslin’ move coming so soon after Quentin “Rampage” Jackson busting out the Undertaker’s finishing move, the Last Ride, 2 months ago.

Anyway, that kick was fantastic, I sat and watched the replays with a huge grin on my face.

Credit to Tiger White for having a great chin but why wasn’t he trying to take Liddell down? Why play to his opponent’s strength? Still, a very exciting match.

Diaz/Parisyan was great. It’d be great to see a rematch where they both come in having improved their striking . Man, those two can GO.
They went absolutely BUCKWILD: strikes, submissions, non-stop action. What a fight!

Very good show all around, with one HUGE mistake- not showing the last round of Diaz/Parisyan is unacceptable. UFC again looked second-rate compared to
Pride with that move.

As far as Pride I’d say Best Fight: Kharitonov-Nogueira and worst Fight: Randleman-Waterman.

Disappointment was the theme of the show since it was supposed to be the night where we found out for sure
who the best hvwt in the world is and whether Nogueira’s loss to Fedor would be avenged. Nogueira’s
ground game is just amazing, I can’t comprehend how he
manages to be superb in every single facet of the ground game- except for ground and pound, but he is so
fantastic in submissions that he doesn’t need the g and p.

Unlike, say, Randleman and every other fighter who’s last name ends in “man.”

Crocop is the MAN, but we already knew that.

Would have been nice to see Ogawa give Fedor more of a challenge.
Props to Nogueira and Bustamente’s toughness, they easily handled some tough shots to the face while being mounted.

Nogueira in particular, that dude is tougher than a two-dollar steak. He’s only 29 and his face looks almost like a dried leather mask!

I think Randy Couture showed what the over 40 crowd is capable of!
