President's Speech to School Kids

I don’t think people in this thread understand why people got riled up by this.

It was not because he was talking to the kids, it was mostly because of the activities afterwords. Now I have said before Obama gave a great speech, but the activity that had them right a letter saying what they could do to help the president was a bit much. The public spoke and it was not done.

Is it unreasonable that someone would think with an activity like that, that maybe just maybe the president would be talking about health care, or cap and trade or anything like that?

But then again I guess people are still in on this democrat vs republican bullshit. Democrats don’t realize that Obama is a Progressive, and Republicans don’t realize that us Conservatives don’t like them.

If it isn’t “politics”, what else would it be?
Gee, I don’t know. You think parents in Texas pulled their kids out of school because they really thought Obama was going to brain wash their kid? Really? I mean, really?

Bullshit.

Really?

Have to love John Stewart. This was actually pretty damned good.

Oh, wait, I guess since I can’t find one where they let these idiots actually scream at the president…I suppose you believe it wouldn’t happen if allowed.

Face it, republicans look like insane people right about now.

We have a direct quote from you saying, “The Right…they…literally yell down the president.” You get challenged on that and then implicitly admit that it never happened and then “suppose” I “believe it would happen if allowed.” Simple fact is you got caught with your pants down and made a clearly false statement. So buck up and say, “I fucked up” and I’ll leave you alone.
My pants are just fine where they are. They are losing their minds at these town hall meetings because they truly wish the person they are speaking to was the president. Those videos show enough to get the point across.

Gee, I was wrong about them literally yelling AT the president face to face. I sure as hell wouldn’t be happy about how they are yelling though and that point is much more significant.

But hey, “small victories” for you, huh?

I get it. Of course. You are pulling your usual insinuation of unsubstantiated racism but cowardly refusal to come out and say it.

After all of these years you know “coward” doesn’t fit me…especially when it comes to you. I actually respected BB.

RACISM itself doesn’t have to be at work here at all. I am not sure why you think I would so easily go down that road seeing as how your responses can be mapped out 3 pages in advance.

Thank you prof x for for posting easily and succinctly what needed to be said.

Presidents have talked for ages to school kids without using that opportunity to gain a political edge. This so called “public outcry” against his speech is really nothing but a shared sense of fear for the presidents ideas from the right. The terms communism, socialism, racist, and fascist get thrown around so much lately that certain people are living in fear of their government. We have to remember that America is designed so that we always have choice, and if you don’t want your kids to listen to Obama then take them out of school. Of course you will be doing yourself a disservice to hear our president talk.

You got that last statement exactly right.
Thanks chief.

Uh, no. Long ago I saw through your manufactured bluster. I’ve had no reason to change my mind.

Good then, answer the damn question - if not “politics”, then what is at work? You suggested something other than “politics”, so why don’t you go ahead and say what you meant? Shouldn’t be hard. We can rule out “politics” and “racism” - so what is at work?

And why would I think you would so easily go down the road of assuming “racism”? Is that a joke?

“Mapped out 3 pages in advance” - no idea what that means, but you’ll note that I had no problem with Obama’s speech to schoolchildren.

They also don’t realize that it’s not just ‘Republicans’ that complained about it. It’s only reported that way for the ‘outrage’ factor.

I also asked you the question. Are you now above actual discussion where you show what goes on in your own head?

What do YOU think causes a clear illogical reaction on a mass scale?

This is exactly right.

I said in an earlier post, this was not even an issue for me. My wife worked in the government school system-- we avoid it like the plague.

Politics…

Easy - politics.

So what is your answer? You’ve eliminated “politics” and “racism”, but you made the comment: so what if not those, what is it?

Why won’t you simply answer the question I first put to you?

Once again, I love how people without kids think they know what’s best for people with kids and judge how they raise them. It’s like a typical 14 year old in a small town that they never left that thinks they have all the answers to the world.

Uh, yeah, those two things are JUST alike.

I don’t have kids…which is one more reason I want to make sure everybody else’s kids don’t become crazy fucking adults. I don’t have to have kids to be able to see how fucked up the reaction here was or how kids in general will see them as opposed to their parents. Why? because I am a grown ass man who is decently intelligent who used to also be a kid.

Kids were not in fear of being brainwashed by the president. If they have this fear now, it is strictly because their parents planted it…the same parents who did NOT plant it during the reign of Bush. When Bush was in office, anyone speaking against him and his politics concerning the war was branded as against the country. “If you have nothing to hide, why do you care about being watched or eaves dropped on?” It wasn’t until he was on his way out that this bullshit began to stop.

I doubt the message truly being received by kids is exactly what these parents THINK is being received. I know I wasn’t that dumb as a kid. Then again, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the…
X, you always like to use the example of the worth of bodybuilding advice to you when it comes from a 130# skinny-fat kid (or similar). It’s the same listening endlessly to people without kids trying to insert their points-of-view to parents. Sorry, but adult or not, you can talk the talk, but it’s meaningless until you walk the walk. I (and everyone else raising kids) deal with that shit endlessly.

You’re right-- kids were not ‘brainwashed’ by the President. But you fail to see the point because you don’t have the perspective.

This has nothing to do with GWBush, so why bring him up-- it’s irrelevent (and for the record, I neither voted for or supported much that Bush did).

As far as ‘kids receiving the message’. Kids AREN’T dumb, they’re far more perceptive than people credit them for.

As far as the insults, you can dispense with them. I was all ears until that. If that’s all you can come up with then maybe you give yourself too much credit. I expect more from your posts. They don’t teach you how to be a parent in Med School.

JFit-- Why don’t you have PX lift your weights for you, too?

WTF, really? Can he, that’d be fuckin awesome, cause he’d still be beating your ass for me that way too  j/k with ya man

From the school obama was speaking at.

I was actually sort of chuckling about that idea to myself. Can you imagine if Obama did use the speech to preach about his reforms to 1st grade kids, “kids, let me tell you the story of the black knight in shining armor and the fuckers who denounced his healthcare reform!!!”

But really, want would be the point? He will be out of office in 4-8 years and none of the students would be able to vote for him anyway. The analogies to lenin and hitler are crazy in that respect because they had lifelong terms.

As much as I despise the term, I assume you are talking about the lay democrat and republican as well. But frankly I think your quite wrong about what democrats think of Obama. People voted for him because he was willing to take on a lot of challenges within our system, and he was nothing but up front about that from the beginning. I give him credit for getting his hands dirty, which will in the long run be for the good of the country.
