Predictions? Let's Have It!

Looks like the popular vote went to Hillary by 300,000 votes, out of 120 million total votes. Just .25% difference.

Election results by county, red like a mother fucker.

Not like this is really news to anyone, but one thing that was especially jarring as the results of swing states came in was the concentration of blue dots around cities with huge swaths of red rural areas around them. Check out PA, Ohio, Michigan. If you know those areas at all, you see that you’ve got blue dots in densely-populated urban areas and college towns, surrounded by red.

Old, tired news Bro!

Can we change the electoral college’s weight from population to sq. Miles?

This is the first time I’ve seen Oregon as a red state too!

It looks like not as many people voted either, but not by a huge amount compared to last time though.

Oh and because of that, one of the dumbest things I’ve heard from upset people (although you can’t really beat calexit and getting rid of electoral college) is saying stuff like “if more people from X demographic voted for hillary she would have won the electoral votes”. They didn’t, end of story.

Hilary’s loss aside (seriously), I think it’s reasonable to visit this right now.

In two of the last five elections, the popular vote loser has won the Electoral College, and in 2016 there is really no reason the EC needs to be a thing any more. It made sense when the country was founded, but now, there’s no reason we can’t just let the popular vote winner be the President.

I’m not a “Democrat” or “Republican” - I just think that should be common sense.

What reason is there to get rid of the EC that doesn’t apply to the Senate?

Based on the map a few posts up it seems quite obvious the EC is more relevant today than it has ever been.

You would need a constitutional amendment to eliminate the EC, virtually impossible.

@smh_23 Thank you very much for the time spent on writing your thoughts, as with most things you do it was thorough! I can relate to falling asleep midstream. I am saddened to see you go–especially as SkyzykS has christened you the “meaner” Don Rickles when describing your rants and the enjoyment he (and I think most of us) get from seeing the English language made into finely tuned barbs while simultaneously smattered with profanity.

Note to mods and/or @Chris_Colucci --since we don’t have PMs any more it would be nice if one of you could message/email smh my email. On the off chance you are inclined it would be nice to trade ideas in the real world under real names.

Now, I would appreciate it if you could hellp keep out those barbarians at the gates!

The two oldest SCOTUS justices are Democrats (Ginsburg and Breyer). Trump may get 3 of his own choice.

Hard to care about walls and celebrity groping when you can’t pay the rent and eat because you’re out of a job…

Not saying his solution is correct (I don’t think it is), but the reaction from those voters is fair considering the economic woes many of them have seen.

And Trump understood that. What the Washington elites need to do is, go and talk to people in person. Get on the ground, listen to the hard working everyday salt of the Earth people. Listen to their concerns. That is how, where, and why Trump beat Hillary.

As you may recall I was an early Rubio supporter. But I could not agree with you more it just might have taken someone with Donald Trump’s toughness to combat the vicious Clinton machine and the constantly attacking media. If anyone thinks that the left wing media would have been any easier on Rubio, Cruz and the rest of them think again. As we have seen from wikkileaks the media colluded with the Clinton campaign at almost every turn.

Anyone on T Nation who does not now know that we have a truly left wing media as I have been saying for years is simply turning their backs to the facts.

True my friend. My father was a gifted tradesman who could do carpentry work, lay block, electrical work, sheet metal and also do design layouts. He never attended college but was one of the wisest and hardest working people that I’ve ever known. Those who look down their noses at blue collar workers are the lowest of the low.

Ginsburg is 83 years old and always looks to me like she needs a nap. Justice Breyer is 78 and from what I’ve read is in very good health. But, Trump will get at least one and maybe two picks in four years time. And as I said many months ago I truly believe that he will pick a conservative to the high court for many reasons. One is his new found friends at the NRA. The first major group to support his candidacy.

No way did I want to see Hillary Clinton picking Supreme Court Justices. The thought is nauseating.

It wouldn’t have mattered if she did, not with Republicans holding 51 seats in the Senate.

There were multiple reasons that the electoral college was created and some of them don’t really apply anymore. However, several of them still do:

  1. There is no provision for a national election in the US. This seems trivial, but you have to consider that voting rules, procedures, and eligibility would need to be standardized. This is not really insurmountable, but it would be nontrivial to do and there is not system in place to address this.
  2. The electoral college is set up to allow small states to have a say. This is done both by over-representing small states by adding in senators and also by making it so that running up the total in a state that already favors one candidate doesn’t cancel out other states. This is perhaps both good and bad in some ways, but it is to a certain degree intended.
