Predictions? Let's Have It!

Perhaps you are correct but the way the republicans have caved in on various issues during Obama’s eight years I did not want to take any chances. Also, how long do you think they could have denied choosing a candidate once one of the Justices retired or heaven forbid died? The press would be demonizing them with barrels of ink. The airwaves would be filled with stories of the “unpatriotic republicans who refuse to do their jobs”. Any backbone that was still remaining would have melted away like so much caramel candy on a hot summer day.

Hillary Clinton could not pick our next one or two (perhaps more) justices to the Supreme Court. There is too much at stake for her to choose men and women that hold our most sacred freedoms in their hands and ultimately have a large say in choosing the direction that the country would take for the next forty or so years.

Can anyone find the map of results by county for this year? The one above is from 2000. I only noticed because some places that went for Gore in Tennessee back then, definetly didn’t vote for Hillary. Alaska was 100% red.

Fox news had a '16 Election map on screen last night, and it was even more red, and the urban/rural thing Activitiesguy mentioned was more obvious.

You know what, I was tepid during the election cycle, but now that it’s over? All aboard! the Trump choo-choo. I am in.
(Unless he sucks, then I am out…)

First I was like, Wow! Then I saw the map was from 2000.

Hey, it was either Trump or Clinton. I pounded the table here on T Nation and in many live conversations that one of them will be the next President. Do you want Hillary? A resounding NO came easy to me. Donald Trump might just be a disaster. But, Hillary Clinton was a corrupt, left wing, soulless hack who most certainly would have loaded the court with Justices like Sotomayor who would not hesitate to shred the Constitution if given the opportunity.

As I said Trump might be a disaster, but then again he might do many of the things that he has said he will do such as enforce our immigration laws, lower taxes on small business and load the court with conservatives.

I’m an optimist.

LOL! You kill me, Pat!

No one ever really knows how a person will respond to the Pressures of this Office.

I will support the President, and see how he does.

That’s what I do…

ABC News said tonight a 3 million! signature petition was being sent to Electoral College requesting HRC get the nod since she got more votes.

I realize the ‘butthurt’ conversations have been had here on T Nation, but it’s astounding to realize how many are opposed to your action plan - up to the point of civil unrest.

We have done a poor job of raising this generation as a society.

Technically, didn’t Trump win because she conceded? The actual electoral votes have not gone through yet so if she was waiting for the process to take place why concede?

Edit: He already visited the white house as the president elect, that’s pretty official as far as I can see it.

What sense did the Electoral College make 200 years ago that it no longer makes? Look at how small the area occupied by Democrat votes always is, and consider how much more powerful/less limited the Executive Branch of the federal government is. The Electoral College is more needed than ever.

Trump won 49 states by 2.1 million votes. He lost CA by 2.5 million because CA electoral system eliminated GOP from most statewide races.

There is a whole process that flows thru the states.
Much more sophisticated than visits or concessions.

Yes, you are a strong supporter of Presidents no matter how bad they are :no_mouth:

That is pretty big, even Texas was less than 1m in the GOP favor. New York was pretty big too but yes obviously california has the biggest effect.

The EC isn’t going anywhere, to remove it would require a 2/3 vote in the House and Senate, and 3/4 of the states would have to vote to remove it.

I know there really hasn’t been much talk about it, a few fringe people who are upset about the results but no major movements. Calexit seems to be the biggest and even that won’t happen. I also saw something on the local news yesterday about how some random guy withdrew his petition for Oregon to succeed (yes it only lasted 2 days) after talking to more people and getting death threats. After comparing the first attempt of succeeding to that kind of stuff you can see why its not only unrealistic but laughable.

That is a fact! They have been pampered and coddled to the point where when one thing doesn’t go their way they fall off the deep end. Crying and carrying on like the babies that many of them are.

Secondly, the typical protestor is probably around 20 years old (not scientific just from seeing the crowds). When Obama was elected they were somewhere around 12 years old. Point being they have known no other President in their very short adult lifetime other than Obama. Just him leaving office has probably upset their little world and sent them running to their safe place.

Also, the corrupt left wing media, (proven out by wikkileaks), painted Donald Trump to be racist, sexist and all sorts of bad things. For example his position on not wanting illegal immigrants to be in this country turned to “Trump hates all immigrants.” So in that sense the media helped create these protestors.

Finally, Obama has made protesting and rioting acceptable. Before Obama’s failed Presidency one would have to reflect back to the 1960’s to see these sort of actions. Now it is rampant beginning with Obama’s attack on the Police giving thugs a free pass thus encouraging this sort of behavior.

They need to be dealt with harshly. Rioting is a felony, yet how many of these empty headed angry young millenials get charged with a felony when arrested? They are charged with disturbing the peace which is a misdemeanor, or even something less such as disorderly conduct.

Had they been dealt with to the fullest extent of the law a man shot last night in Portland Oregon might still be alive today.

I think we can all agree that it shouldn’t go anywhere. It is the only way that smaller states can have equal representation. Otherwise all a Presidential candidate would have to do is win an overwhelming majority in a number of Cities like New York, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, etc., and it would be game over. That means a permanent democrat President. And we know how well that worked out over the past eight years.

Those calling for that are not thinking. It is part of the Constitution and requires a lot of states that would be disenfranchised by the end of the EC to vote for it. No North Dakota is not ever going to vote for it to have even less influence in this nation than it has now. Urban California and the Urban Northeast coast would be the only votes than mater. Flyover country is not about to make itself any more irreverent, than it already is being treated like

That’s only fair. I did eventually accept obama though it took me a while. The whole “wishing him success because that’s what’s best for the country” is what’s best for everyone.

The first two years were murder for me, because everything was hot stamped right through congress without a fight.
But he did do things I like. I agreed with a systematic lifting of sanctions against cuba, for instance. I agree with his strategy against ebola, which appears to be working. The oil pipeline ruling. His efforts to increase home grown energy has born fruit, so I can say he did some good things, even though there was a lot I disagreed with, particularly overseas.
