How do you pre-cook oatmeal for breakfast without it tasting like shit?
I’ve noticed that a lot of pro-athletes/T-Nation members pre-cook all their food for the week on one night…I do this too for things like chicken and veggies…but they also mention pre-cooking a week’s worth of oatmeal.
I would love to do this to save time in the morning but whenever I’ve re-heated oatmeal, even a couple hours later, it has tasted all dried out and gluey.
So, I am wondering…is there a special way to cook/store oatmeal? Or… are they using the oatmeal for something else (like in a recipe)? Or…is it just accepted that the oatmeal will taste bad?
steel cut oats. heat the salted water, add the oats and immediately turn off the heat. if you’re going to reheat in the morning add a little extra water. don’t overcook. there it is.
If I eat too much uncooked oatmeal, I get real bad farts. Like really bad, horrible smell. So I have to cook all my oatmeal. Or when I get back to the states, I will try uncooked oatmeal and bean-o.

You don’t actually have to cook it at all… why waste the time?
Treat it like cereal, put some (chocolate) Metabolic Drive on it, add milk and stir.[/quote]
yeah it’s just a timing thing. the above method works if your going to consume it in 8-10 hours. longer than that and the oatmeal gets too bloated for me. my house is 55-60 f. if your house is warmer you can probably skip the heating part and just soak in cold water. i do that in the summer. still nothing compares to a hot breakfast. especially those mornings when you can see your breath inside.
I am with Vroom on this. I don’t cook mine. Below is a sample of what I have for breakfast.
1/2 cup Fiber One
1/2 cup Oats
1 scoop Grow! Whey
16 ounces skim milk
1 banana
I combine the Fiber One, whey, and oats at night before I go to bed. When I get to work I pour a little less than half of my milk on it and cut up the banana on it. Then I stir it up and eat. I think it is yummy.
