I’m doing my first body building show in 5 weeks. July 17th in Michigan. I am 219lbs, 6ft. age 24. 12% BF.
supplements: whey isolate, micronized BCAA. Natural test booster, NO, pre workout and post workout with hydrolyzed protein and waxymaize starch. also phosphid.serine. Glycine.
Should I even attempt it since my bodyfat is so high?
im following the war room strategies then do your 5 day shred before competition
I am carb cycling with in conjuction with the war room strategies program. I am concerned though using the formula for carb cycle that I might be taking in too many calories with such a limited time of 5 weeks. What are your thoughts? thanks so much, huge fan!
I would pick a different show imo and allow yourself atleast 10-12 weeks for contest prep, preferably even 14-16 depending on where your bf is at that point.

I agree. If you are at a true 12% (measured by a qualified pro) then you would need at least 12 weeks of dieting to be in good shape without sacrificing muscle mass.
If you ‘‘think’’ that you are 12% then I’d recommend 14-16 weeks of dieting too, to be safe.
To start preparing 5 weeks out one would need to be no more than 8% bodyfat, and even that would be pushing it.
First of all, the last week doesn’t count as it’s a peaking week. If you are not ready at least 1 or 2 weeks out, then most will not make it (oftentimes because of stress). So if the show is 5 weeks out, then you really have only 3 or 4 weeks to prepare.
Do not attempt it. Most people DRASTICALLY underestimate the amount of fat they have to lose to be in true contest shape as well as the time necessary to get there. If you are at a true 12%, in 5 weeks of all-out efforts, the best you can hope for is getting into somewhat decent beach or pool shape… which is FAR from being in good contest shape.
I will shoot for the show in August then possibly. Around 8weeks. I did skin caliper test which was a cheaper one so not to accurate. Here are some pictures from today at my gym. I know its not easy to estimate on photos but it would give you a better idea where im at. Yeah I think I do look like shit so far, but value your opinion highly.
Great base but I think you may want to op for 12 weeks. I did a photo shoot a few years back and started at 12% bodyfat and used 15 weeks to get down to low single digits/veins from head to toes. I’ve also tried cutting quickly (6-8 weeks starting at 12%) and always felt like I didn’t look anywhere near as good and lost more muscle. Just my .02. Either way it’s a great learning experience so don’t get discouraged if things don’t work out perfectly first time around. Just learn from it and on to the next one.
Agreed, very good base, but I’d still shoot for 12 weeks of dieting too.
Most people underestimate how much fat they need to lose to be in true contest shape and OVERESTIMATE how much fat they can lose per week.
They also tend to forget that progress is never linear, you are bound to stagnate for 1-2 weeks during your diet, this doesn’t leave you much room for error.
ALWAYS be ready at least 1 week in advance…
ALWAYS give yourself 2 weeks of cushion in case things don’t go as planned
In other words, take the number of weeks you think you need to get in shape and add 3-4 weeks.
Thanks for your guys help! I am down to 208. I am carb cycling 200 high day , 150 medium, and about 50 low day. On low days im increasing my good fats, with legumes and natural peanut butter. My protein is stable at 300. Ive been doing the war room strategies and seem to maintain alot of my mass! Here is a video where im at… i suck at posing so I have to find a good posing video and figure out where to get the best posing trunks!
apologize for the weird breathing lol
I honestly think you have a long way to go and by giving you’r self so little time you will do even more stress on your cortisol levels making it even harder to get into contest shape in time.
As CT said you should always take more time since there can be roadblocks and sticky points which will take more time or if some crazy shit happens which you didnt have planned.
Never the less it’s good to have some kind of goal to aim at, makes thinkg bit more obligatory. Keep it up but keep it objective ;)!
So I will shoot for a show in august. Ill be following the shredded in 6 days program. If prejudging is at noon and the show is at 7pm. Im trying to figure out what to eat during this day saturday. The day before friday I will be carb loading 50 grams a meal probably. Im just confused on what to have prejudging and througou the day till 7!!.
