Post Workout Help

I recently bought Berardi’s Gormet Nutrition. I have picked 6 meals that I eat over the course of the day. My workout falls between my third and fourth meal. After my workout, I eat a post-workout meal from his book.

However, I wanted to know what to eat directly after my workout. I drink gatorade during my workout and then have a protein shake (1 scoop) in the car on my way home. Once I get home I have half a banana (half is used to make my third meal smoothie) and a glass of grape juice. About an hour later I’d say I have my post-workout meal.

Everyone seems to be against fruit juices, but I have grape juice so it helps absorb my creatine. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for what I could be having post workout if not fruit juice. I want to make the most out of this post workout window.

Thank you.

I had a blueberry muffin today. Is that good?

Gatorade typically contains fructose (HFCS) which is not the best carb as it it is not absorbed as quickly as others. It can also cause stomach upset for some. Same with fruit juice. No need to take this along with creatine - it will get absorbed regardless. A high GI carb is best both pre and post-workout such as maltodextrin.

I mix it with my protein powder and mix with water when I get to the gym so I can take it during and after my workout. Blueberry muffins are good for cheat days - probably nothing else.

Seriously? You can’t think of anything better for postworkout than a muffin?

I would consider no carbs for 60 min post workout because of the way that exercise affects insulin response. It’s better to get protein and MCTs (coconut oil) post workout.

If you can afford em, I highly recommend FINiBARs pre workout. I’ve gone through boxes of em. They boost insulin without causing blood sugar to crash.

Thanks. I will look into Maltodextrin.

I hope you are joking regarding no carbs postworkout. If not, you should read some of John Berardi’s articles on this website.

I wish I could afford FINiBARs.

Most people on this site now recommend having your carbs pre rather than post workout.

I’m pretty sure BT knows what he’s talking about. If you dont think so you should check out the transformation in his log… pretty insane.

Also what are your goals? Muscle gain? Fat loss? What?

EDIT: there is a no carbs post workout thread going on right now with a lot of people endorsing it (even Stu the resident Pro Bodybuilder)

Exercise increases uptake of glucose in skeletal muscle independent of insulin.

I think we can all accurately determine the type of individual you are from this statement.

bananna nuuuuuuuuuut!

Dude, take your creatine PWO, just w your shake. If you have carbs PWO, kill the gaterade. NEVER put it in your system again You might as well have some Starbucks, that way you get a little protein from the skim milk. DO YOU KNOW WHAT SUCROSE WILL TO DO YOU?? Also, get maltodextrin or dextrose. Get rid of the juices, it’s pure sugar. You aren’t even using any “good” juice either. Don’t ask what good juice is, just don’t have any…

If you’re bulking (creatine is used for both, but seems most ppl use it in a bulk) Use Dextrose/Malto. I use dextrose, tho I’ve been told malto makes the shakes a little bit ‘creamier’. If you can afford gaterade, you can afford this. 2 gaterades go for $3, you get 15(!!!) servings of 30g dextrose for less than $3/lb.

If cutting and using creatine (first off, please don’t tell me you’re cutting w/ muffins, juice and salty-sugared wanna-be “athletic” drinks… wtf) just take it PWO once again and utilize your bodies insulin like effect of it.

Don’t be dumb man, use what you know and use the knowledge of other people.
–Body stats?? Height/weight, guess of metabolic type, activities, trianing style/program?
I ask bc you need help, either I or someone else will get you set up bc your setup is disgraceful at the moment.

SUCROSE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

SUCROSE = backbone of Iraq’s WMD program.

SUCROSE IZ DA LUCIFERZZZ

Please, tell us what “SUCROSE” will do to us?

I just had 2 pints of whole chocolate milk after legs today. It was delicious.
