I’ve noticed that my butt is still sore a week after each injection (T-cyp). I’m wondering if that’s normal. I’ve read that quite a few people have a reaction to the oil used in T-cyp, and now wondering if I might be one of them. How long do you feel significant pain after your injections?
For me, it feels like a mild but deep bruise for 2 days whether it be IM quads or glutes.

how much oil was injected? where on the butt was it injected and do you self inject?
It’s just 0.25ml (50mg) twice a week, alternating cheeks. It’s being done by doctor’s assistant. I’m not self-injecting yet. I’m really surprised that it’s still sore a week later. At first I just accepted it as normal, but now I’m beginning to wonder if I might be one of those with a reaction to the oil.
I have not had even the slightest mark or tenderness since starting test injections. I have been self-injecting since the start of my test cyp administration. Everyone injects WAY TOO FAST because they don’t like having a needle in them. It takes me about 1-2 minutes to get in 0.25mL. If you push it in fast it has to tear a small abscess to accommodate the drug. It doesn’t automatically distribute throughout the muscle (or subcutaneous) tissues.
The only way its going to immediately disperse is if you administer it IV which you don’t want to do. I use 1" x 25 gauge needles. I only use about half an inch of the needle on my thigh because the S/C layer is zero. Also when the needle is in you can’t be moving and you have to stabilize the syringe by anchoring your hands.
I work in healthcare and when I see others administer injections at the speed they do all I think is “jesus christ!” When I got my 1mL flu shot she put it in my delt in about 3 seconds! Hope that helps.
Wow, 1-2 minutes for 0.25ml is a long time. She does it in about 5-10 seconds (including drawing back to check for blood). That’s probably the problem. I need to start self-injecting ASAP but haven’t found a doctor in the Phoenix area yet. There was one that I knew about, but she got a DUI and lost her drug license.
Well that’s how they train them to do it. The rationale: people are freaked out by having a needle in them. They strive for get in, get out. Many patients can’t hold still long enough for slow administration especially people with dementia or other cognitive impairments. I do it slow enough that it’s almost impossible to tell it’s going in. That’s the trick! Do less damage and there will be less inflammatory response (pain, swelling, warmth, redness).
Self injecting is great. Getting over self-injection anxiety can be tricky I’m fine with it now but at one point I thought about asking for a gel script. My tips: hold the skin stretched tight, go fast through the skin, slow through the muscle, and only use enough needle to get 1/2" into the muscle.
Thanks for the tips. I self-inject hCH, and understand how you could develop some needle anxiety after doing it for a while. It’s kind of like firing a gun at the range. After a certain number of shots you can’t help but anticipate the recoil and then accuracy suffers.
